TRAI Extends Deadline For Mobile Operators To Provide Prepaid Account Info

Telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the implementation time of its Telecom Consumers Protection Regulations, 2012 from 45 days to 75 days.




On 7th January 2012 to bring in transparency in tariff offerings, help consumers in understanding the various tariff plans and vouchers on offer TRAI has made it a must for all mobile phone operators (CDMA/GSM) to provide prepaid users updates of calls made and data downloads every time they use voice and data services. And also announced new guidelines for Prepaid Vouchers with color schemes.

Earlier the GSM and CDMA Mobile service provider's associations have represented to the TRAI for extension of time period to implement the provisions of the regulations, pertaining to vouchers, provision of information after every call, SMS and data usage.

All operators also requested additional time for clearing the existing stock of Topup and tariff vouchers. Considering the requests of the mobile service providers , TRAI has decided to extend the time period for implementing the new regulations to 75 days from the existing limit of 45 days.
