TelecomTalk’s MNP Poll Result Analysis

TelecomTalk MNP Poll Result AnalysisSo atlast Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is going to be implemented in India. It has been delaying for 2 years from June 2009.

With MNP in hand, subscribers become more powerful in the multi-SIM environment of Indian telecom.

Though ICRA reports MNP can affect mobile operators in a short term basis, and other surveys (including Telecomtalk ‘s Polls – Which Operator Will You Leave Once MNP Come Into Place? & Which Operator Will You Board Once MNP Come Into Place? ) shows almost similar trends i.e. in and out flow of the subscribers for the operators are more or less similar, so profit/loss due to MNP will be minimal.Need to check details of the MNP, VISIT HERE.

But as 3G is coming, and data will be the main momentum of telecom sector in coming days with voice tariff war is stabilized, MNP can be lethal for some operators. If MNP is considered as cricket ball, with 2G means medium pacer is bowling and with 3G means its fast bowler! So non-3G players in circle-to-circle will have churns in coming days with MNP hits in.

As we conducted polls on MNP, we find out the following picture of post MNP telecom picture:

*The data used in the graph is per hundred (%).

**The poll result is based upon 986 votes  ‘Which Operator Will You Board Once MNP Come Into Place?’ and 880 votes on ‘Which Operator Will You Leave Once MNP Come Into Place?’ as of (12:19am Jan 20-2011).

The poll result says a maximum of 27% voters like to leave Airtel and at the same time maximum 21% of users said they will move to  Tata Docomo from their current operator.

This poll result can’t be taken as an accurate picture, as it is based upon only the users who voted on Telecomtalk’s MNP polls.

We can say most voters of these polls are from urban areas who have access to internet. As more people will be aware of MNP, MNP will be more helpful for massess.

@tariq PAN INDIA means they should serve in all circles frind PAN INDIA services only by PSUs’

Incorrect information ! PSUs, i.e. BSNL & MTNL does not have PAN INDIA presence. BSNL have services only in 20 circles and MTNL in 2. However, they have only half baked roaming arrangements. An MTNL subscriber when roams in the 20 circles of BSNL circles when calls any other pvt. operator has to pay Rs.1.50 pm., to say sarcastically even in Mahrashtra/Goa. MTNL is cheap with all their plans in only in the courtyard of Mumbai. MTNL have penny wise & pound foolish plan – you can Call USA, and other countries form Mumbai & Delhi @ Re.1/- …..!!!!!

Agreed, not only for Bangalure but this truth is for entire country. Airtel wiil be the biggest looser in telecom industry. BSNL & MTNL Mumbai both are 3G service provider would be the king of mobile market in coming days. Thanks MNP, Thanks to Freedom from cruel operators. My most of the Airtel, VF friends are porting their 4years old numbers to MTNL Mumbai for 3G & no fake VAS activation.

Yeah according me to Airtel would lead the race in loosing its customers. Bsnl would rock, we’ve seen in haryana. Airtel would Suck this time. i’ve noticed that airtel is trying to get new customers by an sms to other network. They should instead save their customers. docomo,Bsnl, aircel would be benfited by MNP according to me..

All the telecom operators, also known as ‘stake-holders’ who are interested ‘level-playing’ should take the TT’s indicative analysis for making an introspection and trying to improve themselves. All are interested in only PORT-IN ! And for this each and every one is showering offers (implicit and/or explicit), and in most cases they are tempting too and hence not easy to refuse.

All of them have opened their own predatory web-page frames to welcome by asking to input number/name etc. (of frustrated ones of opponents in the same field)! All these time none of them bothered or cared except creating a CUSTOMER CARE portal/call centre ! They should try to keep the flock together rather than adopting predatory techniques ! For this best option could be having another frame in web-page to find out why they are PORTING-OUT ! Well will they ……………………..?

I am puzzled by huge ad campaign by Vodafone assuring customers of its “help”. What do they mean in carrying out that costly ad campaign without offering any tangible benefits to current or prospective custodmers? The problem with Airtel, Vodafone and Idea is that they spend lot of money on mindless ads while at the same time exploiting their customers. The ads too annoy us with their high sounding messages but little to interest the customer. Vodafone spent crores of rupees on these useless ads in newspapers in AP which neither attract new customers nor help existing users. On the other hand, MTS which rarely advertises, has excellent coverage, at least in city, and affordable tariffs. More affordable than the state-owned BSNL, whose hairbrained executives still think 1.2 paise per second for offnet calls is clever strategy!

Evening peak hours gprs connectivity is worst
but call clarity and connectivity no problem and tariff also very good
(Call clarity is best in uninor and voda only..better in airtel and TD .,worst in aircel)

rc89 for all local calls 1p /2s for 90 days validity in TD

Check urself fully in nazareth and surrounding area whether TD has good coverage
Since in some area indoor coverage is poor in TD

Network wise i think vodafone is best and has fully covered in TN Than aircel and bsnl

But what about roaming charges?? MTNL is present only in Mumbai & Delhi circle and rest of India has BSNL network…
On other hand Airtel & Vodafone are Pan India operator having there presence in all 23 circles.. So we can reduce roaming rates to 0.70ps/min or 0.80ps/min in Airtel or Vodafone..
But in MTNL no option, we strictly have to pay Rs.1.50/min from roaming BSNL network… So let first MTNL reduce there national roaming charges to 1ps/sec or Rs.0.50/min then only we think of Porting to MTNL..
BSNL another PSU giving roaming rates of 1ps/sec or 0.49ps/min since last more than one year now..

In Future MTNL Mumbai will be the lowest roaming call rates operator for entire Country may be 45p/min & 1p/sec for any network. Wait & watch MTNL team are doing the same to reduce the roaming charges on priority basis to avoid porting to other ops from his loyal subscribers.

I a county where we have Dual Sim Phone. I feel like there will be impact only in the initial stages. Operator who do marketing they will be the winner

Tata Docomo’s Advantages and disadvantages over Vodafone(I am using both sim card)

    Tata Docomo
    1) Rs 250 Full talk time.
    2) Call rates 1p/2s (Bonus card 45 rs)
    3) Very good GPRS speed.
    4) Customer support Very good
    5) 3G ready .

    5) Indoor Coverage and highway coverage should be improved.

Vodafone network coverage is the best in kerala,
I am a user of Vodafone since 2000 then Bpl Mobile.I was a very happy Bpl Mobile Customer( They Do what thay say, good customer support, A company for poor, fighting for new towers in our area go 3 towers in 1 years). And now vodafone will install tower in 2 months. Things has changed since 2006 when Bpl mobile was taken over by hutch. They re branded Bpl to Hutch introduced GPRS in 2006(Can u believe it). Vodafone came to india in 2007. 2008 hutch was re branded to vodafone..
Now in 2011 they are the best in coverage and only for rich.

I should appreciate TATA DoCoMo for what they have done at launch.

Only 986 voters can’t judge the overall situations. Does this survey make any sense? What about the remaining 650 Million users?

I hope this survey will come true atleast in Chennai. Over the past one year airtel coverage is very bad in chennai. Also even if we have full signal strength we can’t connect to another airtel number…I am facing this problem for the past one year both in my office and at home complained to airtel several time but it’s of no use..Since my number is corporate number and can’t change i am struck with this bad network…so will change to either vodafone or bsnl…e

Hey does anyone of the readers or TT bloggers know what on earth is wrong with Airtel’s website. They have removed all their plans, stvs etc from their website… Now they have only the basic tariff vouchers like 1p/sec, 50p/min, life time validity pack with re 1/min etc…
All plans with 10p/min, 20p/min, 30p/min A to A calls, sms packs, ISD packs have all disappeared from their site over a month back.
For the leading mobile operator in India this is not good.
Do u guys know if they r upto something?

it seems from 2 to 3 days some guys are fighting mostly over DOCOMO and AIRCEL, it seems like both these operators are have to improve their networks, as both guys are indicating fault to each other and surely all operators have good points as well as some demerits, it varies circle to circle, but one thing is sure that no operator emerges as the best in the survey, THANKS to the TT team for the survey, hope this will push the operators to improve in all respect and think twice, and still the game is just begin so all of us lets watch where the wind will blow……………..

Aircel produces many products and providing good services for subscribers… And they introduces blyk for youths,Pocket internet,Pocket App, INQ,Peek,Blackberry,WIP,Face book voice updates,Mconference+ etc… Most of the people from tamilnadu satisfied with the tariff of AIRCEL.

Switch to a new world of possibilities with Aircel and retain your mobile number.

tested reliance 3g two days ago and find no reason to shift from airtel 2g to reliance 3g. 1. speed is not so impressive that i should leave rs..98 for 2GB pack of airtel to rs.100 for 100MB pack of reliance 3g. 2. as reliance customer care said, if you want to recharge 3g data pack you have to go to your nearest reliance outlet. 3. they said mobile tv is free for january but when send sms MTV to 55447 they replied the service is currently not available. please try latter. 4. they have video call facility but none of my contacts have 3g handset and/or 3g connection, so its not useful for me. 5. when a am on the way to my workplace and also inside my office sometimes there is no tower/signal. so i remove the 3g sim and back to airtel 2g.

Tata Docomo surely wins the race . . .. .

Most of the people from tamilnadu unsatisfied with the tariff of AIRCEL. So most of the AIRCEL people moves to TATA DOCOMO.

Dear Unsatisfied AIRCEL people pls move to DOCOMO, DOCOMO is the only operator offering sms without any booster card.

Really nice analysis prepared from 986 & 880 voters without any delay, Rudradeep you created clear picture to all the operators, to improve your services or loose your subscribers. Really nice work. Hats off.
In mumbai docomo network is poor in most of the suburban areas, even on LBS road its poor, good thing is their EDGE otherwise poor voice clarity, unwanted calls for VAS activation, unwanted new offer sms are their disadvantages. Chat support is new invention is good, no 3G for Mumbai circle but they are going to share with MTNL 3G services for their Mh Goa subscribers very soon.

Airtel will not be the biggest order. Idea and Reliance will be the biggest loosers. BSNL what u said is right Bad Customer service for taking the call they take 30 mins even in the morning that is too bad. also they have to improve the network.

based on the above poll (can be taken as an indicator/direction) airtel followed by vodafone and reliance would be top 3 losers. and tata docomo followed by bsnl and idea will be top 3 gainers.

wake up call for airtel and vodafone to reduce its tariff, esp roaming charges and provide good gprs offers with good speeds like rcom & docomo. and for rcom to stop frauding its customers through false vas activations and improve its network coverage, esp indoor penetration.

tata docomo is on a double edge sword… customers have high expectation from it and they will feel dejected because of its poor network and may shift after 3 months of porting to it. the same high expectation from bsnl. with bsnl its always been about poor customer care and slow resolution of problem.

hope everyone works on their problems and then true competition will be seen when every one is strong on all aspects. and mnp will be catalyst to it. long live mnp.

it looks as if docomo is clearly the winner. even me too voted for docomo. it has most transparent rates and services than others. i guess that must be the reason for it.
i biggest loser i guess would not be airtel because people leaving airtel are only those who find it expensive whereas who have high usage and can afford good services will stick to airtel because of its coverage.
for me reliance would be biggest loser who promised affordable tariffs has hiked their rates. so they they are left with neither good tariffs nor good network. so people will soon opt out of it.
