Telecom operators hike salaries to prevent staff from going to Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio is planning to begin its operations in full swing this September and it has already started increasing the worries for competitors. It is believed that it is offering about 20-25 percent salary hikes to the circle head level management of other operators to switch their jobs to Reliance Jio.

It plans on having a phased roll out in the country and the hiring is in sync with that as well. It is focusing on senior level management for the time being to build a strong work force that is competent enough to take on the competition in all departments. It is relying on the expertise and knowledge levels of the senior level officials in the competitors and is hiring them with perks and benefits.

As a result, the other operators have started giving out better retention packages to their staff as they surely wouldn’t want an expert from their stable to go to another competitor. “Competition is looking for our people. They like our people. This year in appraisals, the attachment of salary increases to performance has been stronger than ever at Vodafone”, is what Ashok Ramchandran, director, HR for Vodafone India said in statement reports ET.

The same has been happening in the world of mobiles too with Obi mobiles taking away some of the top level management from the likes of Micromax and HTC India. New companies want to come in the market with a bang and they seek professional expertise to aid their efforts. Veterans from the competitors form the perfect tool to do so.

can anyone please tell me reliance gsm will be converted into reliance jio or its a different operator?

    • Srini June 3, 2014 2:23 pm

I dont think so as reliance Jio is owned by Mukesh and infocomm is owned by Anil.

      • Mudassar June 3, 2014 2:39 pm

        Will you elaborate it?

        • Shuvam Dutta June 3, 2014 4:24 pm

First of all, to understand what we know as Reliance from long ago is actually Reliance Communications (RCom) which has GSM, CDMA and 3G license and is owned by Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group.

What we know as Reliance Jio is actually Reliance Jio Infocomm which has 2100 BWA Spectrum and 1800 Mhz unified licence which is owned by Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani group.

So these are two totally different companies with different licences, different services offered and totally different operating frequencies (in terms of usability permitted by the licensing authority). Only some tower and FOC sharing deal has been cracked between these two companies, otherwise both will have their separate services and no interference with each other as of now. So, yes! You will need to get a separate SIM card and may be a separate device even to use the 4G services by Jio.

Please correct me anyone if I am wrong anywhere..
