Tata Docomo Rollback Its National Roaming Pack

Bad news for frequent travelers who are on Tata’s GSM or CDMA mobile services. Tata Docomo has decided NOT to extend its most popular Roaming Vouchers STV 47 / RC 46 which provides free incoming calls to its prepaid customers (GSM and CDMA) while on National Roaming.

Tata Docomo Rollback Its National Roaming Pack

As shared on May 9th, 2012, Tata Docomo was the second GSM operator after BSNL to offer its FREE Incoming calls facility while Roaming Service on promotional basis.

Going forward with RC 46 , only those customers who had activated the pack before 31st July can continue to enjoy the benefits till 60 day periods end. Tata Docomo GSM and CDMA Customers wishing to avail incoming FREE Incoming Call facility while on National Roaming can still do so by availing any of the postpaid roaming free plans from tata Docomo GSM and CDMA 299 799 499 postpaid plans.

What do you feel ? Do share your views on Incoming Calls while National Roaming not being free anymore on prepaid plans except for BSNL users using Roam Free Plan-150.

Switch to Vodafone network for availing the national roaming packs.

  • Rahul January 5, 2013 1:44 pm

This is very bad for who are frequently traveling all over India. But other service providers are offering this kind of National roaming packs. Why not Tata Docomo? If it’s continues like this obviously customers will deviate from Docomo to Other service providers. So we want as a Customer STV 47 / RC 46 for all GSM and CDMA customers.

switch to airtel. india’s no.1 provider

  • PD August 12, 2012 2:40 pm

Is this step too is INNOVATIVE ? TD have had introduced many schemes and tariff cards which were withdrawn unilaterally. Even the retailers are put to risk by not allowing REVERSAL of wrong recharge. Very bad initiatives from the planners from TD

  • Daniel August 10, 2012 1:03 pm

GPRS speed is best in Airtel,Outdoor and indoor coverage is verry good.
U will get constant 70-170 kbps.

I used AIRTEL before TATA DOCOMO.then,I got 2GB/Rs.98.but,some days ago,I bought a airtel sim from a retail shop and found that it is too bad.speed may vary time-to-time,I know.but, the speed was just 47kbps.

  • Saurabh August 7, 2012 2:07 pm

    @Rudradeep,

Yes, Reliance Industries have all the options open with them and they can also go for 800MHz band but you are well aware of CDMA’s situation in our country. People here still hesitate to adapt or go for CDMA technology and reasons are many from OMH handsets availability to RUIM cards to unlocked data cards to lesser number of CDMA players etc. People find it easy to just change the SIM which they can easily do with GSM supported handsets or dongles. Reliance Comm and Tata knew very well that with CDMA services only they can’t survive in the market and they went for GSM licenses straightway.

It’s always better to go with the trend then to try something which is not doing well. GSM is first choice of users here unlike USA or other Europeon countries where CDMA rules.

If we add the subscriber base of all 4 CDMA players in India, it will not go anywhere near to Airtel’s subscriber base.

It’s true that going for CDMA license can save the infrastructure cost for them but it is priced higher than GSM spectrum and who knows where the final price reach. So either you pay one-time cost or spent on infrastructure reduces the difference between two.

Also RIL’s inexperience in B2C segment is still a big question. We have to wait to watch what business model they adapt and how they cater individual customers needs which they haven’t done yet.

All in all, going for CDMA will be more riskier than GSM. They can also wait till 900MHz spectrum comes up auction. Reliance have to have a Voice+Data strategy instead of only being a Data-Centric operators with LTE and EV-DO. Data market is still immature. You can’t expect data segment to repeat Voice success. It’s easy for a villager and people in towns to buy a handset for as low as Rs.1000 and use voice services than to spend first on a good Goverment enabled smartphone or PC/Laptop+ data card +monthly plan cost.

I was reading an article in ET regarding Tata Docomo in which analyst are of the view point that Data-centric apporach by Tata is killing them which I analysed way before when I find reason for their low ARPU’s due to low data cost. I’m tired now otherwise would have described it in details but will do some other day.

Update: DoT to seek extension of deadline from Supreme Court again. I want SC to provide 25 days extension only.

But,I can not understand that,in this scenario, how DOT can implement the NTP-2012 at near future?
TT(Rudradeep) should in search the news about it???

DEAR FRIEND RELIANCE IS NEARLY A DEAD COMPANY..IT HAS MONEY, BUT NEVER KNOW HOW TO UTILISE IT… THEY R KNOWN TO POSSES LARGEST OPTICAL NETWORK IN INDIA, BUT NOT GIVEN TO CUSTOMERS FOR CHEAPER RATE.. I HOPE GOVERNMENT BANS IT FROM AUCTION…IT WILL BID WIN AND KEEP THE SPECTRUM LOCKED… IT IS THE WORST MANAGED COMPANY… FOOLS AND IDIOTS RULING THE GREATEST EMPIRE..

@Kavin, we are talking about Reliance Industries Ltd. and not Reliance Communications Ltd. I don’t know how many times we have to ask people here not to confuse Reliance Industries with Reliance Communications Limited.

The company you are calling as dead is Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications which is providing GSM/3G and CDMA network and has largest optical fibre network in India. Calling them dead is not right as they are No.2 telecom operator in India after Airtel. They have also spend lots of money to install infrastructure like others and may be more than them. Don’t they have to recover cost they spent on infrastructure? So stop asking for cheaper services.

The one we are talking about is Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Industries which is not providing telecom services as of now. They have 4G license and not Reliance Communications. Reliance is in Petrochemical business and we are expecting them to bid.

Can anyone tell me which operator is giving highest GPRS/EDGE speed in Kolkata circle? I am using TATA DOCOMO for a long time. But,It’s service is going from bad to worst.U.speed:19kbps and D.Speed:4-5kbps in EDGE network!!

    So,friends help me.

this is the problem everywhere. They always favour Corporates. Hope they bid for spectrum and offer good rates. so many people have got a lot of faith in RIL . what do u say?

  • Rudradeep August 7, 2012 10:23 am

    Saurabh :

I heard a news on a business channel that Uninor will bid for 9 circles while Videocon is interested in 8 circles, Tata Docomo and Idea in 3 and 9 circles respectively where they have lost license. So there are very little chances of anyone getting PAN-India. But wait, here is some twist in the story,

That news also indicated that our very own Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Industries will also participate in the auction and if they are participating, I’m sure we can have Reliance as Pan-India license winner.
I was just thinking whether it is just a coincidence or what? Reliance Industries wanted Goverment to set base price at 8 times to the cost licenses were given in 2008. In 2008 Pan-India licenses were provided for Rs.1651 crores. Now as per Reliance Industries recommended price it comes out to be 1651 X 8 = 13208 crores. The base price is set at 14000 crore which is near the figure of what Reliance suggested. So has the base price been set to benefit Reliance Industries? RIL has around 75000+ crores cash surplus which company needs to implement in new sectors. So money is not a problem for them. They already have Pan-India 4G spectrum. They have got the base price they wanted so that other find it hard to get spectrum as other operators are not in situation to bid.

This just can’t be a coincidence. Policies have been made to help Reliance Industries.

Like Apple surprises the Tech world, Reliance suprises the corporate arena in India. Today the stock price of Reliance Industries also jumped more than 5 percent which is highest jump since March. Maybe some insiders know what we don’t.

I expect that RIL may bid for 800MHz spectrum – which will give Senior Ambani to get back the CDMA love as well as more coverage. A network with EVDO+LTE means boom boom to 3G! Later LTE800 may also be implemented.

  • Anjan August 6, 2012 11:51 pm

In bangalore Docomo is the best service with cheap rates. 2 years im using docomo but from last year their service too bad too worst. In morning we wont get any calls upto 10 am as well as in the evng data is not working fine always network busy. compare to docomo. aircel and uninor is best.

Now I changed to BSNL. BSNl is the best and their voice quality too good. In BSNL i like one thing If we are using sms, data, roaming pack means everything is free. But BSNL is the only operator now offering free incoming calls and free sms(if you are using any sms pack) even in roaming too

PROUD TO BE A CUSTOMER IN BSNL( INDIAN COMPANY)

  • sunny August 6, 2012 11:47 pm

Do u find tata everywhere ,uninor, mts aircel, airtel ,idea ,which of these company provide broadband in pan india level?? bsnl provides broadband even in rural area , all north east , j&k andman nicobar , leh ,ladaakh every where. bsnl is having pan india 3g license , bsnl is having pan india cdma license, pan india basic telephony, wimax , voip, provides lease circuit to other corporate sector, ftth technology . u tell me any one company name wchich is having all these thing in one, TELECOM IS NOT ONLY WHAT U TALK ON UR MOBILE, COME AND SEE AT ALL LEVEL WHAT ACTUALLY TELECOM IS ???……I AM AGREE THAT BSNL COPIED ALL THE PLANS BUT TO RUN ANY PLAN FOR LONG TIME THAT IS THE MAIN ISSUE, THIS IS ONLY IN BSNL……TO PROVIDE SERVICES AT ALL LEVEL WITHOUT FOCUSSING TO MUCH ON PROFIT THIS IS SOCIAL OBLIGATION…

Reliance GSM is the worst service provider in India.
    Reliance CDMA is awesome!

  • Saurabh August 6, 2012 10:26 pm

Tata Docomo entered the market with a bang but at present they are among the most less talked operators. Their service quality is going worst from bad and company has no solution. Expansion is somewhat this company don’t know. They failed to bring innovation in 3G services. Simply they didn’t lived upto customer’s expectations.

There is some shocking things came when I try to find Tata Docomo’s GSM customer base in Haryana. Before launching GSM operation in Haryana i.e until September 2009, Tata had around 13.5 Lakh customers as reported to AUSPI. These all were CDMA customers. In Oct-Nov, 2009 they reported GSM+CDMA customers for first time. Today Tata Docomo has around a total of 29.6 Lakh customers. So even if I take zero addition to their CDMA segment their GSM customer base stands at around 16 lakh but if I go by the rate they were adding CDMA customers, it comes out to be around 20.3 Lakh which clearly indicate that their GSM customer base stands at 9.3 lakh only. It can be true as Tata coverage is rural Haryana is like zero. I also analyzed data for other 3G circles and results are not favoring them.

Tata Docomo can’t survive in the market without merger with other company.

Instead of launching and withdrawing, better docomo should not have launched. It is like snatching a candy from a baby. Cheap attitute towards the customers. Sick.

But we should be happy that it is withdrawn because docomo does not have proper coverage anywhere. I travelled to Bangalore with Tamilnadu docomo SIM. It was always latching to AIRCEL network and incoming (Rs.1 per min) and outgoing (Rs.1 and Rs.1.50) was as per standard roaming tariff. It was never in docomo network. Even if I select manual mode, it is asking me to select other network (since coverage was WORST).
