Tata Docomo Revised CDMA Data Plans for Prepaid Mobile Users

Country’s leading dual tech operator Tata Docomo has silently revised their CDMA data offerings for mobile phone users. Tata Docomo, being one of few CDMA service provider in the country has one of the strongest mobile network with its CDMA coverage.

Now the revised data plans is almost as par with market’s 2G data plans, though Tata Docomo allows that users if have a EVDO enabled smartphone/device will get EVDO speed with these packs.

Details of revised prepaid CDMA data plans from Tata Docomo:

At present CDMA data plans are quite cheaper than GSM, based on the fact that CDMA data plans from Reliance and Tata offer EVDO speed. Reliance’s STV94 offers 1.5GB EVDO data for 30 days, and 10p/SMS for 180 days.

Contrast to these offering, MTS, country’s sole pure-play CDMA operator has many data plans which are confusing and costly. They differentiate 1x and 3X/EVDO/HSD plans and for users who are using MTS-branded smartphones they have another set of plans. Not only that to access EVDO, people have to change their voice plan. In a short, MTS is really messed up!!

My HTC desire vc is only connecting to 1x network in tata DoCoMo cdma. Do we need special sim for that

    • Abhishek April 26, 2014 3:44 pm

@Tapojoy — First check out if your locality is under evdo coverage or not..If it is under evdo coverage you will get evdo speed in your smartphone..If not then you will get 1x speed..I hope your sim is an OMH sim ( identified by the diamond logo on it)..Secondly check if you have selected evdo in the cdma network mode ( Settings.>mobile network>cdma network>network mode)..I am using HTC Desire vc for more than 1 year with tata DoCoMo..no problem with evdo..

All is Ok, but there is no coverage in rural areas from past one years, without intimating to customers TATA stopped rural service. You will get your TATA CDMA if you are a city person, So they (TATA) doesn’t no how to run these businesses. Take TATA motors 75% down in sales, before competition they enjoyed, now hahaha.
They will not accept credit and debit cards for payments(still in 19th century), if you ask any outlet in bangalore for any service they have ready made answer Sir you kindly visit Richmond Road office or Koramangala. Even they cant replace for new sims,
Dear TT readers kindly don’t buy any TATA (even salt also)products. Even I hate If I sit in a TATA Marcopolo Bus.
Always cheap thinking cheap Mentality cheap products.
    Thanks for reading

I am using MTS 1x cdma with my unlocked mts modem, using Mobile sim for last 1.5yrs with Rs142/- 6Gb till date, no confusing on 1x data.
they have evdo or high speed data with very costly product, but offers me 399/- for 4gb and 575/ for 6gb.
But I can use 6Gb for 30 days ,I can use it completely with d/l speed 18-19KB.

    • Rudradeep Biswas February 25, 2014 12:13 am

MTS does not have unified data plans.
      At present, they have:
      1. 1x plans for mobile users
      2. 1x plans for dongle users – unlimited plans available
      3. evdo data plans for non-smartphone/omh users [to be precise if you don't use mts smartphones]
4A. evdo plans for mts smartphone users.
4B. evdo plans for smartphone plan users
      5. Several combo plans for mts smartphone users/smartphone plan users

      >> no direct way out to change 1x to evdo
      >> evdo plans for mobile users don’t give auto 3X activation.
      >> to use MTag phones or 3X data without any hassle, you have to change your voice plan.

  • imahesh February 24, 2014 11:08 pm

CDMA helps TATA from loss’s but they need to be improve it. Provide at least 2gb in same plan and good cheap phones.

    • Rudradeep Biswas February 25, 2014 12:19 am

Both Rcom and Tata has quite good data plans on EVDO/3X for mobile users.
But India’s CDMA device ecosystem is poor. and no operator cares of.
In few months, say end of this year CDMA will have big blow as 4G from Jio will be launched.

  • Nikhil February 24, 2014 10:15 pm

Earlier Tata Docomo CDMA was offering 4.5 GB EVDO data for just Rs. 94. Now it is changed to Rs. 256 for 4 GB. But it acceptable because it gives data speed upto 3.1 mbps better actual speed than GSM 3G speed. Coverage & signal penetration is also one of the benefit with CDMA data. If someone wants this great data speed experience at affordable rates (Rs.256 for 4 GB means Rs.64 for 1GB), Buy a CDMA smartphone with EVDO compatibility (Samsung Y CDMA) or unlocked CDMA dongle.
BSNL EVDO is also affordable. It gives true unlimited data at Rs.750. But BSNL’s EVDO service is available only in few cities with limited towers.

  • subham February 24, 2014 6:56 pm

Yes,these plans are accessible both in evdo and 1x,both in cdma dongle and CDMA mobiles.

These plans have been effective from more than two months ago.

      • srikanth February 24, 2014 9:26 pm

@hashim , afaik these plans are only for tata docomo cdma sim customers and not for tata photo plus.
you will be able to access cdma 1x & evdo on cdma phone & unlocked cdma/evdo modem.

  • Sam February 24, 2014 5:10 pm
