Sanjay Kapoor to Quit Bharti Airtel, Gopal Vittal to Become CEO at Airtel India

bharti-airtel-new-ceoSanjay Kapoor, the CEO of Bharti Airtel's India and South Asia unit is going to leave his position by 28th February, 2013 ending a 15 year long relation with Airtel.

As per company statement Mr. Kapoor will be available to assist on key matters for another a month. He is going to move to the Board of Indus Towers Ltd and Bharti Global Ltd.




Gopal Vittal, currently Group Director of Special Projects will fill the position as company's India CEO and will report to Sunil Bharti Mittal Chairman & Managing Director of the company. In past he served at Singtel Group in South Asia/Australia, Softbank and Silicon Valley. It is expected that he will keep focus on mobile data, apps and content to enhance market share and margins.

Airtel is re-constructuring its business and plans to combine its Indian, South Asian and African operations under a single global entity. Manoj Kohli, the joint MD of Bharti and executive of African operations is expected to head the combined entity.
