Following MTS HTC Smartphone (HTC Hero CDMA aka Droid Eris) launched as MTS Pulse, Samsung India announced the launch of Galaxy Pop CDMA (i599).
The smartphone will hit the market for Rs. 9750. This would be the 4th CDMA Android smartphone officially available in Indian market, after Galaxy i899 & i500 and MTS Pulse and 1st CDMA smartphone which is powered by Android 2.2.
Online retailer Flipkart.com is selling this CDMA smartphone at Rs 9500 with free home delivery.
This mid range CDMA smartphone from Samsung certainly enriches its Android portfolio of Galaxy series.
There are no hardware differences between the Galaxy Pop CDMA and its GSM cousin. This smartphone is an Open Market Handset (OMH) device, so you can choose any CDMA operator (Reliance/Tata Indicom/MTS/BSNL/MTNL/Ping/Virgin).
Galaxy Pop is better choice than MTS Pulse, as Pop CDMA is powered with Android 2.2 Froyo and its price is below 10K. It is expected Reliance and Tata will offer bundled plans with this smartphone. As the phone has support for EVDO Rev A (downlink upto 3.1Mbps and uplink upto 1.8Mbps), Reliance and Tata is expected to give bundled data usage for free for 2-3 months with this device.

Only the 4th device? This shows how poorly CDMA is treated in india. Thats it, im going to Vodafone or airtel, without changing my no, atleast I will have a wide choice of android phones, or iPhone or Win Mango too.
Useless CDMA.

@vitas
For mobile surfing there is a plan @ Rs95 which gives 2.5 GB for 30 days at the speed of 156 kbps. If you want to use photon+ service on mobile just check out their plans under the tag ‘SPEEDLIVING’ on their website.

Yes… Something like Rs300 per GB, 50p/MB next and much more…
vitas March 31, 2011 at 1:13 am
@sumit
that’s nice to hear. But, aren’t there any rate cutter plan’s?
sumit March 31, 2011 at 12:54 am
In tata indicom default data plan is 50p/mb at 3.1 mbps speed. We can enjoy photon+ service and connect our phone to pc and use it as an evdo modem.

Note that BSNL and MTNL offer CDMA 3G i.e. EVDO much cheaper than GSM 3G.
Jagan March 30, 2011 at 8:35 pm
There is no use – with the current price of internet browsing offered by CDMA providers. GPRS/3G – GSM will be useful in future.
Abadan Mohapatra March 30, 2011 at 4:36 pm
Ya, of most CDMA/EVDO Operators, check the categories.
vitas March 30, 2011 at 4:20 pm
Were there any previous post’s on TT regarding internet tariff of CDMA networks’s?
Larkins Dsouza March 30, 2011 at 4:16 pm
I believe it’s 600 MHz processor not 800 MHz processor please confirm and correct this.
Abadan Mohapatra March 30, 2011 at 4:01 pm
Well, here it’s written i599 but in flipkart written i559. What’s it actually ?
By the way, compared to the pricing, specs. are very good.
vitas March 30, 2011 at 3:51 pm
Nice phone. But i have no idea about internet tariff’s provided by CDMA operator’s.
