S Tel, a joint venture between Siva Group (formerly Sterling Infotech Group) and BMIC Limited, a subsidiary of Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) begin its GSM mobile service from Himachal Pradesh and according to the company with in next ten days they will launch the same in Bihar and Orissa. Batelco has 49 per cent stake in S Tel and the Siva group holds  51 per cent stake.

Speeking on the launch, Mr. Swaminathan, Director STel said “STel is one of the first new operators to enter the market in a very timely manner due to infrastructure sharing with existing operators”.

S Tel is sharing the whole infrastructure with existing operators and has decided not to put up any tower of its own. S Tel’s agreement with Reliance Communications covers all telecom circles where the telecom operator plans to roll-out its GSM services soon.

What a launch! Kisi ko kuch pata hi nahi chala.

They are live with IP based GSM network in HP with 500 EDGE enable Cell site. Their outsourced 500 BTS locations is live and covers 755 towns(census/non-census) and 7300 villages across the state)

what is meant by this ?
    IP based GSM network

With IP-based GSM system- a connection connecting the IP-based GSM system to a common IP network. This advanced telecommunication system can be incorporated in a network having a plurality of systems all connected by the common IP network to permit compressed speech via an A-interface in each system and throughout the network. The system permits an operator to realize a significant reduction in operating costs.

S Tel just has Unified Access Services Licenses (UASL) and spectrum to operate in six Category ‘C’ circles – Orissa, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, North East, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir.when will they get the license to operate in the remaining 16 circles??

S TEL is also pursuing opportunities in the 16 other circles but did not divulge any information as the matter was sub-judice.

MTS vi TATA Indicom ka infrastructure share kar raha hai. to problem kya hai. Kolkata mai IDEA bhi VODAFONE ka tower share kar raha hai. vodafone local call deta hai 50paisa main or idea deta hai 40paisa mai.

In fact, entry of so many mobile companies in Himachal is a joke. This is just nothing but to get a tag of pan Indian operator. Barring Airtel and BSNL none of the companies have any presence in the interiors.
