S Tel Closer To Leave Market, Launches Online MNP Portal To Generate UPC Code For Its Customers

S Tel whose mobile service licenses has been canceled by the Supreme Court under 2G verdict has decided to wind-up its operations in all the six circles where it won licences in 2008.

S Tel today launched "Online Portal" to help-out its customers to generate UPC code to port out from its network and swicth to any other operator using Mobile Number Potablity (MNP).




The company said in a statement "S Tel had already reached out to its subscribers, and its channel partners vide an SMS campaign and information posted on its website, after the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, We have informed that the S Tel's subscribers if they so deem fit, they may opt for the MNP option."

On February 14th, 2012 as we shared on TelecomTalk, the operator openly asked its customers to Port Out from its network using MNP which indicate that the operator is going to close  its GSM service in all 5 circles in India.

S Tel held UAS licences in 6 circles - Assam, North-East, Bihar, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and launched its GSM services in all circles except Jammu and Kashmir.The company is estimated to have a GSM subscriber base of around 36 lakh.
