Reliance Communications (Rcom) today unveiled its path breaking initiative to break the price barrier for Internet access for billions of Indians across 24,000 towns and 600,000 villages with launch of low speed Unlimited Wireless Internet for Rs.169 per month dubbed as “City Unlimited”.
Reliance also slashed the cost of its CDMA 1X Netconnect USB stick modem to Rs 1099 and offers Unlimited Data usage at affordable tariff of just Rs 169 only for prepaid users with speed of up to 153 kbps (kilobit per second). This plan has been launched across the country EXCEPT the top 1000 towns.
According to Rcom, Many parts of India are still under penetrated in terms of internet usage. Reliance launches its new offering ‘City Unlimited’ which comes with truly unlimited data usage and Internet access, within the same city with wireless internet speed of up to 153 kbps. These cities where this plan is available is mapped to over 1700 STD codes.
RCOM led India’s first telecom revolution by making a phone call more affordable. It is now leading the second wave by making India a WireFree country, where every Indian has access to Internet at the click of mouse or the press of a key. This is in line with Reliance’s vision to usher in digital revolution by making the telecom services available to the countrymen while offering them at the most affordable prices.
Mahesh Prasad, President –Wireless Business, Reliance Communications said There remains abundant headroom for data growth since many regions of the country are still significantly under penetrated and unwired. RCOM‘s strategy is to reach this unconnected hinterland, giving millions of Indians affordable internet usage. In these parts of the country, PC penetration is increasing with the popularity of music and movies online, social networking and email. Dial up network or poor GPRS connectivity are the only options available for internet access and the customer experience is very poor on account of poor network quality and lower speeds.
‘City Unlimited’ makes the internet access very affordable, but, more importantly provides the speed with unlimited data usage for using various internet applications. The service plan is targeted at small/medium businesses, students and homemakers. RCOM’s network presence provides competitive edge of diverse technology and nationwide reach of Internet access for everyone

This plan is good .but this plan is not avble in area….pleas this plan avlebal in area…
Saurabh May 28, 2011 at 3:18 pm
@Saurabh
If you don’t have Reliance NetConnect+ in your area better use internet via tethering. We all know that with EDGE on GSM we can get 240-290Kbps which is nearly twice that what Reliance or Tata Indicom is offering with 1X.
Saurabh May 28, 2011 at 3:07 pm
Is this plan exists in reality or not? When talked to Reliance Webstore people at different places in Haryana, they said there is nothing like that and unlimited plan will cost you Rs.801 which is also written on the RCOM website. Better to go for NetConnect+ unlimited @750 (5GB upto 3.1Mbps )
gokul May 23, 2011 at 11:01 pm
aircel oly best…..this plan is not avble in area…..

@Anurag Bhatia
Anurag, Some People Like Me Can Understand The Concept Of Your’s and Some People Like Rohini Argues With You, That She Knows Everything. So Beware About These Kind Of People.
Srihari Kolusu March 26, 2011 at 5:52 am
Top 1000 towns will not get these special Offer, What about City?
Lets Rural People start using Internet at affordable Price.
Anurag Bhatia March 26, 2011 at 1:50 am
@ROHINI
Dear Rohini,
you are confusing EVDO with 1x. You get 40KB/s = 320Kbps which is well beyond speed of 1x which is 144kbps.
You are using EVDO which has peak speed of 3.1Mbps and you are getting 320Kbps.
Reliance is not planning for such sort of network. It is planning for cheap cards over 1x network.
Hope that clarifies.
devx March 25, 2011 at 11:47 pm
@ROHINI
well if u mean 40-52KB/sec= 320+kbps…u are really getting 3x more then the theoretical speed.
ROHINI March 25, 2011 at 9:45 pm
KAUN BOLA KI ACHA SPEED NAHIN HAI????
I AM USING IT & GETTING DOWNLOAD SPEED OF 40-52 KB/SEC ………..
IT REALLY ROCKS MAN……………… WHY ARE YOU MISGUIDING PEOPLE???
HAVE YOU ANY PROBLEM WITH RELIANCE??????
Kumar Abhishek March 25, 2011 at 5:09 pm
@ASHWANI
Dear Ashwani, The Recharge of 169 is not open for every location it is for some seleceted location, Like Punjab has only 19 beneficery town and Khanna does not have that benefit, hence its not working there.
ashis March 25, 2011 at 3:34 pm
@ayush singh
i fully agree with u.it is a plan to sell their usb modems and utilise their cdma network in this world of gsm and 3g
virumandi March 25, 2011 at 1:01 pm
Good initiative by Reliance. The offer should have been for all over India instead of selected towns.
MaNoJ March 25, 2011 at 12:59 pm
Dear ,
First you should verify with Reliance CC.
Because this offer is applicable except top 1000 town.
So it may not be applicable for your City..

Very true…. They will surely hike it’s price after few months… So dnt go for it@ayush singh
ayush singh March 25, 2011 at 12:07 am
chhodo yar. relience chor company hai. inka plan aisa hoga ki pahle sab CDMA 1X Netconnect USB stick modem Rs. 1099 me kharid lenge. fir ye relience wale 4 ya 5 month bad 169 se badhakr 269 fir 369 aise hi badhate jayenge. remember unlimited calling pack jo 499 se start hua tha fir 799 fir 999 ho gya tha.
ya abhi k SMS pack hi le lo pahle 11 & 25 fir 19 & 39 aur ab 39 & 69.
never trust releince.
wo sabke paise apni mutthhi me kr lega

Raghu March 24, 2011 at 11:04 pm
well done Reliance. now 1x is also getting cheaper. Reliance have to introduce some other offers for the 1000 towns it mentioned.
manish March 24, 2011 at 9:26 pm
Very strange, rcom c.c. said such plan don’t exist.
Amit Karmakar March 24, 2011 at 9:11 pm
Will the speed be ace or just a waste of money? I have a similar data card but its speed in the evening is worst of all.
Anirban Mukherjee March 24, 2011 at 8:45 pm
Oh….atlast RCOM launches a meaningful 1X unlimited plan.
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Agreed fully. The bare minimum connectivity to net is now affordable.
Meghashyam K March 24, 2011 at 7:47 pm
i mean to say 1X prices are coming down…
Meghashyam K March 24, 2011 at 7:44 pm
There are villages, where internet is still a dream and reliance provides excellent coverage all over India. For most village people 1X is still the way of internet and its good that 1X speeds are coming down… Earlier they used to charge 801/- for unlimited for prepaid… Yea, world is feeling 4-5 Mbps is slow, but for we people in villages 1X is all that we have got…
Anurag Bhatia March 24, 2011 at 7:23 pm
World is moving towards more and more speeds on broadband. Users from US are leaving DSL and moving towards cable and fiber. They feel 4-5Mbps is slow. Question is where companies like Reliance are taking us?
153Kbps is peak speed on 1x, and at the end users get even more slower. Pan India EVDO would have made some sense. Pan India 1x = just insufficient for most of applications we people are used to. I must say MTS seems more serious then Reliance!
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 7:10 pm
OMG !!! Max. speed 153 kbps ! Actual, 5-15 !!! Total useless then. I’ve accessed R CDMA 1X just a couple of times a few years ago so don’t remember the performance.
Raj March 24, 2011 at 7:07 pm
It is not kilobytes. It is kilo-bits.
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Just a minute Bro. By kbps I suppose you mean Kilobytes per second, right ? If that’s the case then that’s the range of 1X basically.
Vivek March 24, 2011 at 6:42 pm
Reliance netconct n tata photon speed is too wrost in village the speed is only 5 to 15kbps what will we do with dis plan wrost wrost wrost no hope for hi speed
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 6:41 pm
Time for BSNL to bring unlimited 1X to Rs. 100 or less. MTNL has already done it’s Best.
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 6:38 pm
I also think he meant the same but as we know it’s a tendency to use the general name GPRS for GSM based Data Services.
Abadan Mohapatra March 24, 2011 at 6:37 pm
BSNL via WLL provides internet via the very same 1X technology and as per my experience, avg. speeds are 100+.
Ajesh March 24, 2011 at 6:29 pm
Is this better than the Hi-speed internet provided by BSNL via WLL??
What’s the average dwnld speed we get through this??
Anyone please answer..
devx March 24, 2011 at 6:22 pm
@Rohan
well u are saying abt EDGE i believe.
Kanaga Deepan N March 24, 2011 at 6:02 pm
This offer is applicable in villages where there is NO Reliance WebWorld…
Rohan March 24, 2011 at 5:24 pm
No its not GPRS it’s cdma 1x technology. U need cdma data card for it. GPRS is better than this ..
chatty March 24, 2011 at 4:53 pm
Is this plan available for internet on mobile I mean via GPRS?
devx March 24, 2011 at 4:47 pm
“This plan has been launched across the country except the top 1000 towns.”
what does that mean……is it only for the villages and d grade towns???
Santu Sovan Mandal March 24, 2011 at 4:34 pm
Practically with cdma 1* technology, it’ll pretty slow to open any web page let alone downloads.
Sagarkinkar March 24, 2011 at 4:31 pm
Isase achcha Mobile net hai. 153kbps kah rahe hai lekin denge 10kbps sab operator ek jaise hi hai sale.
Bharat March 24, 2011 at 4:29 pm
What are those 1000 cities ?
karann March 24, 2011 at 4:28 pm
excellent pack, average users who use 100 to 800mb data per month may go for it with 800mhz frequency can get excellent all india coverage. Go for it guys, best plan till date.
PD March 24, 2011 at 4:23 pm
Supersonic speed….! Since they charge Rs.169/-pm can its speed be increased to 169 kbps at least ? Khush hoogi kissans…… ha…ha.
Amit.G March 24, 2011 at 4:18 pm
Good deal by reliance….
