But following the huge success of Android, mostly due to its ability to offer low cost smartphones there are emergence of new mobile platforms. Some of them are modified from earlier ones, and some came to tap the mobile opportunity. Mozilla's HTML5 based FirefoxOS (originally Boot2Gecko), Canonical backed Ubuntu's mobile version and Samsung's Tizen are seemed to be next gen mobile platforms which can give trouble to older platforms. None of them has commercial big bang but all of them are very confident to be a success.

For rolling out FirefoxOS, Mozilla partnered several handset manufacturers and operators to offer FirefoxOS running smartphones. Mozilla even targets its market - South America first, then Asia, Europe and Africa. Ubuntu has another edge, it has its own fan followers and quite popular on desktop or laptop market. In its first run as Ubuntu on Android, it showed some exciting features. In February '13 Ubuntu phone was announced.

Samsung moved to Tizen from home-grown BadaOS as it is looking for alternative to Android. WebOS with quite good ecosystem is inactive these days under the hood of HP, but it is sold to another party, it may show its fortune. Nokia-ditched MeeGo got its new home and reshaped as Jolla.

So there are several mobile platforms are emerging. There is chance that our Reliance Jio Infocomm may not totally depend on Android and look for these alternative operating systems.
