Today I walked into a Nokia store in Bangalore and had a demo. Alongside there was a Nokia fan using Noika phone as well as iPhone 4
We tried N8 and iPhone 4 – for similar things
Here are my observations
1] the photo quality on N8 leaves much to be desired – despite 12MP camera
2] the video quality is also not comparable to iPhone 4
3] while playing a movie, Fast Forward to a different frame, iPhone starts playing instantly while N8 takes some time to resume play
4] the Retina display on iPhone is much sharper, brighter compared to N8 – here again N8 is bad. Under bright light conditions of show room, despite being advanced screen, display quality of N8 is bad
5] the phone to HDMI cable that comes with N8 is hardly 6 inches long and one needs to buy HDMI cable to connect to LCD / LED TV – which costs extra about Rs 2,000 / Rs 3,000
6] the pinch zoom on N8 is bad – at times it takes second or third attempt to get what you want – this means the capacitive screen response is bad – iPhone is far superior
Sometime back I had also taken a demo of Samsung Galaxy S – similar tests, the performance was far better than N8
For these drawbacks, the price is too high. If you are a touch screen fan, better avoid N8

NOKIA HAS TO UNDERSTAND ONE THING THAT PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER WAITING FOR IT’S PHONES TO BE LAUNCHED. THOSE TIMES HAVE GONE & SO WILL NOKIA.

I, personally, waited for this phone over iPhone 4. I will get in my hand in another 2 hours! iPhone is far behind N8, when it comes to multimedia functions, video calling, plug-in adapters, free maps, free editor of video, FM radio & transmitter and many more.
But, some reviewes call this a slower phone that androids, ios. Let me see myself!
All the best Nokia!

Good phone for “Fun with Work” needs [things like 16:9 photo shoot, 720p HD video recording, HD TV connectivity etc] where as for “Work with Fun” needs one can continue to use laptop / netbook / tablet [personally I prefer larger screen size for web browsing]
Abhijit October 12, 2010 at 2:06 pm
