MTS starts offering customer care through number 199, will discontinue existing 155 from September 1

Sistema's Indian unit, MTS India, has started offering its customer care services through 199, while the current one, 155, will stop working from the 1st of September.

When we contacted, MTS care executive confirmed us the same. We were told that the new customer care number is already active, and that MTS users in all its 8 circles can contact customer care by dialling the new helpline number 199.

TRAI had earlier directed the service provider to change its existing 111 customer care number on the grounds that it violates the national numbering plan. According to the national numbering plan of Department of Telecommunications issued during 2003, numbers from 100 – 115 is allotted for emergency services (100 – Police, 101 – Ambulance etc.) and no telecom providers are allowed to use it for their operative purposes.

MTS also informing its users through various channels about these changes. This reason behind this might be to comply with TRAI guidelines. Recently,
