Pure CDMA Mobile and Data Service operator, MTS India ( Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited)  today announced that it has received its 3rd carrier in the 800 Mhz spectrum band from the Department of Telecom (DoT).

MTS India - SSTL

The allotment of the 3rd carrier is significant as MTS India would now be able to launch its next generation, REV B Phase II telecom services (EVDO - High Speed Data Network).

It may be recalled that in March 2013 spectrum auctions, SSTL had won 3 carriers of 1.25 Mhz each in eight circles i.e. Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, Tamil Nadu, UP (West) and West Bengal. In addition, SSTL already has 3 carriers of spectrum within 800 Mhz band in its Rajasthan circle and already provides Rev B Phase II data services within the same circle

Earlier, on 3rd October 2013,  SSTL had also got its Unified Telecom License, valid for 20 years, making it the first telecom operator in the country to become a part of Unified Licensing regime as we shared on TelecomTalk.

“Our long wait to get the 3rd carrier, post the spectrum auctions in March 2013 is finally over. This represents a major milestone, as it would enable SSTL to provide its customers with the next generation Rev B Phase II telecom services across all its circles. Looking ahead, our plan is to acquire at least 5 Mhz of contiguous spectrum within the 800 Mhz spectrum band.” -   Dmitry Shukov, Chief Executive Officer, SSTL (MTS India)
