    Breaking News: Sistema (MTS) to buy stake in Aircel.
    As per the news on a business channel, Sistema which has JV with Shyam Tele for CDMA services in India, is in advance talks to buy majority stake in Aircel which is currently held by Maxis Communications of Malaysia. So it will mark the foray of MTS in GSM segment. Both the companies have confirmed this news.
    Aircel hasn’t lost any of their licenses and if MTS buys majority stake, they will stay in India even if they fail to bid for CDMA license. On the other hand, this deal will help Aircel to expand their network which is due from a long time.
    Lets see what’s next in the store.

    Can anyone suggest me a good OMH handset with 1X and EV-DO Rev.A support? I don’t need any other feature like camera. I tried to find but it went out of budget of 6K. I can’t spend more for a CDMA handset. Voice only handsets are available for as low as 1200 but I want a decent one.

    @Saurabh

    Go for Samsung Primo Duos. A OMH CDMA + GSM phone. Can be used as CDMA alone. Open Market Handset(OMH), Can use with OMH CDMA SIM. EVDO Rev. A supported handset, 3.1Mbps – High Speed Internet. Please see the specifications at samsung website and flipkart is selling it for Rs. 5990/-

    As fate would have it my 191 stv expired yesterday after six months. now can someone tell me what is the mrp for bihar circle(cc has no idea) and whether it is 30 paise or 1/2 paise per sec. Currently i have an option to recharge with 95 which gives 1/2 paise local and std(capped at 400 mins per month) for 3 months. My major usage is local so which stv should i go for now?

    All, I can say about this is, “Amazing”. If it is only for 1 month then it’s costly matter.

    After licenses of new entrants got cancelled, I thought that now incumbents will take undue advantage of it and hike the tariffs as much as possible. But to everyone surprise, we have seen competition rising especially in voice market with telcos coming with plan voucher or STV that cost anything between 50-100 and provide reduced call rates for 6 months. Also there are minute or second based calling packs in which effective cost is 20-33 paise/min. Voice segment is now cheaper than ever before. I hope Airtel-Idea-Vodafone cartel will also feel the heat and bring some good plans. Btw Videocon has increased calls to LL number in all their STV to as high as 1.8/s or 1.08/min. Though calls to mobiles are still cheaper.

    Few days back, I was thinking of getting a OMH CDMA handset (First time in my life) and this plan has now make it sure.

    Disclosure: Voice is the least-used feature in my phone. My monthly expenditure on voice is Rs.25-30 only.
