Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), finally increased ISD call rates to 6 countries from Rs.1 to Rs 2 per minute for its Land-line and postpaid mobile customers Delhi in Delhi telecom circle, effective from today ie. 5th May 2012. MTNL already did the same for Mumbai circle in February, as earlier we shared in TelecomTalk.
According to our exclusive sources, the average ISD call termination charge has been increased in last few months, so MTNL has no option to increase ISD call rates to 6 countries namely USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
However the MTNL’s new ISD rate (Rs.2/min) is still cheapest in the Indian market compare to all other telecom operators offerings Rs.6 to Rs.10 per minute for the same as default tariff (without any STV/Pack). The ISD call rates was reduced by MTNL in June, 2010 as we reported earlier on TelecomTalk.
Now MTNL Delhi’s Landline and Mobile users will be charged for ISD Call to USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand at Rs.2 per minute as by default tariff without any pack effective from today i.e. 5th May 2012.

Instead of fishing for VOiP services and depending on the 3G data to make ISD Calls try Reliance Global Call. It is a very simple and beautiful service available from Reliance Communications. It offers calls for just Rs. 1.49 per minute to USA, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, China and many more countries.
The only drawback ofthis service is that you can use it with Reliance phones only. But it is very easy and transparent to use. You can find all the information on relianceglobalcall.com

Smartphone users can use a wide number of VOIP apps offering absolutely free calling to USA and Canada where the user is only charged for the data being used and with no additional per second or per minute call tariff, this is useful for people with good high speed data connection preferably 3G on their smartphones. A few apps that offer free VOIP calling to USA and Canada are Magicjack (Available for iPhone users) Bobsled (Available for iOS, Android, Blackberry) Nettalk. there may be many more but I have enlisted the 3 that I have personally used and found good, the voice clarity is comparable to GSM.

Instead of slowly increasing (like MTNL) from Rs.1, the private operators maintain constant ISD call charge to U.S at Rs.6.40 per min. This is far more better.

Changing rates was realy disappointing for many ppl, cos i know so many ppl took new connections just to enjoy cheapest isd rates witout any packs. I hope the old tariff is restored soon. Still 2rs is also affordable !!!!
