MTNL-BSNL Offers “Free Roaming” In Mumbai, Maharasthra & Goa

In an attempt to provide greater benefits to the GSM mobile users of Mumbai and Maharashtra telecom circles, both state operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has introduced Local Tariff and FREE Roaming for the entire Maharashtra and Goa State including Mumbai Metro circle for their pre paid and post paid GSM mobile service subscribers.

Today MTNL Mumbai has announced the Roam Free Maharashtra with reduction of outgoing call rates for Trump and Dolphin customers while calling to networks in Maharashtra Circle. Now all outgoing calls to BSNL and MTNL Maharashtra and Goa Network while in Roaming will be charged as per customers basic plan by default. For example if MTNL customers is in PAY PER Second Plan and Roam to any where in Maharashtra and Goa circle (out of Mumbai circle) than for outgoing calls to Mumbai MTNL Network will be charged at Half Paisa for One Second (one paisa for 2 seconds) and Calls to all BSNL network of Mumbai-Maharashtra and Goa will be charged at One Paisa for One Second as per their Home network tariff. The all other call charges will be applicable as per existing tariff.

Till now MTNL’s Trump (prepaid) and Dolphin (postpaid) customers used to pay slightly higher outgoing call rates while calling to all the networks in Maharashtra circle (out of Mumbai). Although Incoming calls (with in BSNL-MTNL Network) have always been free as per DoT guidelines since from November 2006, but outgoing call rates were slightly higher than the home network rates. In other words now both MTNL- BSNL users Mumbai and Maharashtra-Goa circles can enjoy FREE ROAMING.

The New FREE Roaming service will be effective from today; all outgoing calls to MTNL-BSNL Networks, SMS and GPRS-Data charges while Roaming will be charged as per the Local home tariff .The similar thing applies to BSNL Maharastra GSM customer’s too. For them too the Mumbai is part of their home network.

The news is not at all true. The rates applicable to MTNL customers are not same as that of their respective LOCAL CALL PLAN. I ckecked it with customer care. The rates will be 1ps/sec for all calls to MTNL Nos ONLY while roaming in Maharashtra. Other Nos will be charged @ Re.1/ min. No benefit of merging two circles. This is simply a white collared cheating. They are even charging u for INCOMING Calls if u r receiving calls from any No of outside Maharashtra Goa and Mumbai Circle if u r in Mahahrashtra Circle.

i got the mtnl sms “free roaming across maha & goa.now CALL BSNL(MAHA&GOA) NUMBERS at local call rates while roaming on bsnl netwk in maha&goa”
y did they specifically mention bsnl no.? does that mean, for mumbai customer while roaming in maha-goa, roaming is free only if call is made to bsnl no? n if they call to other netwk, then roaming charges apply. their own official sms is confusing.
    plz clarify.

yes possible option. so now one can hv either of mtnl or bsnl no. while in maha.
but in roaming, rel gsm n docomo hv set the trend of roam-free calls all over ind.(not merely in the same state)

Reliance and Airtel are among first to offer roaming free MH and MU

No except Loop, all operators including Vodafone and Idea are providing roaming free facility in entire maharshtra.

No my friend vodafone & Idea are not providing roam free facility to entire Maharashtra state. They both give only incoming free, but outgoing is not as per plan adopted by customer, they still take Rs.1/min for local & Rs.1.5/for std calls..
Now I M hoping soon Idea & Vodafone also joined to give free roaming like other operators in entire Maharashtra as they have their own network presence in both circle to give free roaming facility in entire Maharashtra. as competition is increasing by entry of new operators!! Loop will also try to give free roam benefits in entire Maharashtra after launching of their LOOP services in Maharashtra circle..

Better Late than NEVER BSNL… Similarly MTNL should bring down the roaming rates all over India with the help of BSNL (Now only roaming rates are high for MTNL, otherwise it is best network)…

Yes correct! But without BSNL’s Help MTNL cannot reduce the Roaming charges, and Still BSNL is not ready! even MTNL has taken this issue with DOT and PMO but still its pending!! Well MTNL Mumbai is giving more than 50% extra talk time from cost on many recharges, so all over the cost of mobility is cheapest in with MTNL.
