Messed Up Website of DOT

Messed Up Website of DOTDo you know Siddharth Behura? May be yes, may be not. Because we do not often remember people working in Govt not as a minister.

He was the Secretary of Department of Telecommunication (DoT) from January 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009.

That was the time when A. Raja gave away 122 2G licenses t0 new operators and Behura signed the files leading to the allocation of the licenses.

Behura’s predecessor, D S Mathur, had refused to sign the files which had delayed the grant of the licenses.Following the rattling the cage of 2G scam by CBI, Sid Behura was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 2 along with R K Chandolia and A Raja himself.

Now if you look into website of Department of Telecommunication – http://www.dot.gov.in/rti/teldir.htm you will find out current Secretary of DOT as Shri R. Chandrashekhar and his email id is also given as secy-dot@nic.in but if hyperlink put with the text is mailto:sidbehura@yahoo.co.in which is expected to be personal email id of Sid Behura.

Without any further analysis, we now ask whats your take on this ?

    Bruce Wayne :
    I must say, u TT guys r jobless insomniacs….why th heck do u hv to make a big issue out of such a trivial matter!! its very common for sites to contain outdated info…if a company like airtel can have it then whats the problem with DoT. I feel that u shud b focusing more on things that matter rather than deliberately maligning the image of the government

    max :
    its a small mistake

    Taf :
    I guess its the mistake of the IT guy maintaining the site, he replaced the anchored text but forgot to replace the mailto attribute (HTML), because of his negligence or incompetence.
    I dismiss any conspiracy theory.

    This is not a case of mistake but it is a clear case of phising. Any mail which were supposed to come in the inbox of official email ID were redirected to former Secretary of DOT’s personal email id of Sid Behura. It is clear violation of Indian Secret Act 1923 (amended). No official is supposed to use personal email ID for official use. He may be filtering the incoming emails.
    Since former Secretary of DOT was supposed to handover the official email ID to new Secretary of DOT, there was no case of editing the website’s link. So it is not a mistake of technical guy.

    i just booked a ticket on IRCTC and it was so painful.

  • Bruce Wayne March 11, 2011 1:41 pm

    @jagan
    the government is no doubt corrupt…..but y do we have to be so nosy….i mean making an entire post for just one incorrect mailto: link in a website is very very wrong. like u said “thousands of visitors” come here so the TT ppl should not waste the time of those ppl…..there r so many wrong hyperlinks in several sites..its nt so surprising

  • xyz March 11, 2011 1:38 pm

    same with Shri Chandra Prakash who is a member of technology himself has a personal id…membert-dot@nic.in redirecting to Ksridhara_9@hotmail.com

  • Anishu Prerit March 11, 2011 12:29 pm

    @ Abhijeet

    You can reframe your wording and can state that
    #DOT give us MNP after approx 2 years where it is schedule to come and also after 125 countries where MNP was working.
    #It give us 3G after 1 year from schedule time when other countries is looking for 4G.
    #You should thank to DOT which look crore of rupees due to negligence while allocating spectrum.

    We should thank it for all those minor negligence that I have stated above and scold to TT which is informing us all the updated related to telecom arena.

    Abhijeet — here TT is showing just its concern about the incident. It does not want to harm Gov or any where else ….Would you accept this?

  • Abhijeet March 11, 2011 12:07 pm

    @jagan

    Just because of the govt you are here and tell the world about minor govt mistake.Just because of DOT you are enjoying cheap telephone calls, MNP, affordable telecom facilities and of course, right of speech!

    instead of publishing this as a news why dont you send the mail to Shri R. Chandrashekhar and let him inform about this mistake…..

    But think twice before posting, this is not a very serious matter but just because of your “alertness” one govt. person can get into the trouble.

  • GS March 11, 2011 12:02 pm

    @AD
    I absolutely agree with AD. I’ve been dealing with DOT officials for a long time and many of them even carry a visiting cards with their personal email ids & residential address mentioned on them.

  • AD March 11, 2011 11:51 am

    @Bruce Wayne
    Dude it’s a government of india website u cannot mention your personal mail id in it.. If he need to mention his personal mail id let him creat hie own website. Come to other thing you pointed as “jobless insomniacs” I definitely won’t agree with you before you writing this word you should ve read what this website is all about.

    Sorry Bro. I thought while im reading the post, “What else can be expected from those lame Govt. dept’s. “. But you know “These jobless insomniacs” have the updated telecom news, with thousands of visitors counting in; “These jobless insomniacs” helps to aware our insensitive(if possible i can use the word useless) telecom depts mistakes. Its very shocking that your worry of “image of the govt” despite their poor performance. Grow up Bro! :)

    We are not speaking against the Govt we are just showing the fact what is wrong and if you think its a outdated info its NOT see they can update the new Secretary name of Shri R. Chandrashekhar why not they can update the email id that is our question ?
