There are lots of happening inside BSNL regarding bandwidth upgradation on wired broadband segment.
Earlier we shared a story that BSNL is on its way to upgrade bandwidth as BSNL officials at Andra Pradesh asks for this to BSNL HQ.
Currently BSNL enjoys a monopoly in broadband market mostly due to its widest coverage over the country.
BSNL offers broadband along with basic telephony on copper lines using ADSL technology, though at places BSNL has deployed VDSL and Fiber optical lines to offer broadband services.
In 2007 BSNL went a massive speed upgradation – basic plans got 2Mbps, a jump from much slower 256kbps. That enabled BSNL’s strong hold on broadband market but with the time other ISPs turned to be more favourable to subscribers on speed and tariff.
In Hyderabad Beam Telecom now offers FTTx plans with awesome plans actually with threat coming from Beam and other ISPs in coming days, BSNL is going its way to upgrade the bandwidth on some plans. BSNL officials at Andra Pradesh said that current unlimited plans like 750UL and 625ULCombo plans will see double speed very soon.
There was no comment regarding bandwidth upgrade from 2Mbps on basic broadband plans.Though there is no official report about bandwidth upgradation from BSNL, many users at Hyderabad is experiencing double speed (~ 1 Mbps) on their 512 kbps unlimited plans.
But also same time some users did not find any speed upgrade, I guess BSNL is testing in selected exchanges and state-wise upgradation will be done soon.
Last but not the least, deprived and frustrated BSNL broadband users in other circles may probably have to wait till March, 2012 till BSNL is to complete this country-wide upgradation.
If you are a BSNL Broadband user experiencing more speed than your allotted speed do let us know via comments via speedtest results.

Rocky :
Better you take BB Home combo UL 750 if you are not bothered about the free calls in 625 plan. So you will get 1 Mbps unlimited (without FUP) in the future if the speed gets increased. The total billing amount (excluding call charges) will be Rs.814 approx (Rs.750 + 10.3% tax).

is this upgrade going to be just for hyderabad? in that case it will suck!

From Past one month I’ve been seeing a bump in my download speed and then I noticed its almost twice what I used to get before…!!!! One of the BSNL broadband guy also told me that BSNL is planing a massive speed upgrade…He said around Rs2000 Crore has been invested by BSNL for this….!!!My speed results have confirmed this to me…as I used to get around 1.7mbps on speedtest before and now I get almost double of around 3.5mpbs…!!!
bharathkumara December 9, 2011 at 10:49 pm

Santhosh December 9, 2011 at 10:31 am
Bsnl is not bothered to improve mobile services particularly in mysore city area as network cogestion, call drops are common in Mysorecity area.
Abhijit December 9, 2011 at 7:33 am

my speed with airtel 3G in Kolkata
Raghu December 8, 2011 at 11:26 pm
@rocky
BSNL is ignoring AP also they are least bothered to improve the network here in AP
dskushwaha December 8, 2011 at 11:07 pm
I do agree. If MTNL can provide night unlimited from 18:00 to 08:00 why can’t BSNL? At least come a little bit closer to your young brother and give night U/L which is practiceable.

I m Using 625rs Unlimited Plan its my result speedtest.net/result/1637311896.png can any one tell me meri speed kya hai ? please
Rajendra December 8, 2011 at 9:39 pm
yes its true..it may be in some plans bec. i am using 250Kbps plan at home.. in speed test i got 0.25Mbps D.L and 0.60Mbps Upload speed. and 76 ms ping..
but at our office vve are using 2Mbps plan..in speed test it never fall belovv 4Mbps..alvvays betvveen 4 to 6 Mbps
devx December 8, 2011 at 8:19 pm
512kbps should definitely now be 2 mbps ….enough is enough. bsnl come back & rock the country…
RDB December 8, 2011 at 7:39 pm
They can’t coz they do not have proper fiber optical network across the country. Beam is very much concentrated in Hyderabad. If others come with such plans, it will be for limited areas only. Also I don’t think BSNL can support such speeds and data with their current infra. Airtel & biggies do not care about us.
It is not cheating
BSNL is testing and I think hopefully such upgradation will be on all plans. Atleast we can hope for best!
BSNL knows that, if speed increases, data will also be upgraded. In 2007, FMC500 came with 1GB @ 256kbps, after upgrade it was 2.5GB@2Mbps + night unlimited.
Here is the trick, BSNL don’t want you download heavily even at night unless you are awake everyday till 2am.
bharathkumara December 8, 2011 at 7:21 pm
i am also waiting for upgradation of bsnl wired broadband…
sAm December 8, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Speed Upgradation is OK.
But BSNL should think about the duration of NIGHT UNLIMITED which is currently from 2am-8am.It will be much better if it is revised to 10pm-8am.
Foxy December 8, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Vasu December 8, 2011 at 4:02 pm
Very good move by bsnl.
How can beam fiber provide such speeds at low costs (10 mbps upto 30 gb post 2 mbps @ Rs. 1000/-) ?
Why cant airtel, reliance, vsnl which have international bandwidth cant provide these plans ?
Some saw that for every mb we download it costs isp around Rs. 5.
rocky December 8, 2011 at 3:55 pm
Why BSNL ingoring other circles?
We are paying same amount yet cheating us….
Prakash December 8, 2011 at 3:12 pm
Same Happened With me
