As the New Year count down begins generally our Operators send their customers reminder sms about Blackout days as defined in TRAI regulations and inform users that they will be charged as per their Base Tariff on special days.

Blackout days warning

But this time seems like Idea Cellular users have a reason to rejoice as Idea Cellular is offering its users with special SMS pack saying “Just for you!”  which gives SMS benefit to be used only on Blackout days.

idea new year sms pack

Definitely a reason to rejoice as users are getting 50 Local & STD SMS for just Rs 5 especially on Blackout Days. This justifies a customer’s perspective i’ll pay you and you provide me better services :) .

Not sure whether this offering is only for selected users or selected circles but if you receive this sms you are the ones just special to get benefited :)

Dear Idea cellular users, have you received this sms? If so from which circle ? If any other operator has sent such msgs do let us know via comments.

Oh.. i wondered from years what this sms is in our mobile. Today I came to know it is operator based service for sending messages to poor indian people who have banned Sms in jammu from years ago. Cheap Govt.

    bihar n jharkhand circle, 200 sms at cost of 12 on 31st n 1st.

  • BP Singh December 29, 2013 8:32 pm

    Not applicable in Punjab.
This is another trick to fool customers.
Until someone knows about it he/she would have sent 200-300 sms to friend/family circle and later a big bill on his /her door.
Private operators are good in making fool by emotional msgs.
I am sure this is applicable to some customers or some circles only. Rest will follow in such confusion and in two days Idea will mint around few lakhs/crores considering their huge user base.
Thank god BSNL and MTNL don’t do such cheap tricks. Billing is always done honestly. I hope they (state govt enterprises) will keep on improving their services/CSCSs in future and match private operators. It will be a beneficial sign for the nation.
Recall how BSNL when entered in Telecom arena in 2001-2002 made incoming call FREE in India. Citizen of this country should file complaint regularly to the higher authority , raise RTIs, Send Mails to Top Management etc. to keep improving the state govt enterprises- BSNL & MTNL.
    God Bless India…!!

instead of doing such things better they remove the Blackout days all together as a 2014 resolution instead of offering SMS pack on Blackout days. anyhow who is bothered when whatsapp and Viber and BBm are there.

  • Arif December 29, 2013 12:39 pm

  • sidhartha December 29, 2013 11:36 am

Any pls tell the web address to Complaint against fault balance deduction?

    • Lalit December 31, 2013 9:53 am

Hi! I have filed many complaints at TRAI (EMail ID: ap@trai.gov.in (GSM Services), ddgpg-dot@nic.in (CDMA Services)) but not received any confirmation even for a single mail.
First write a mail to nodal officer and appellate authority of the company. You will get the resolution within 3 working days (Maximum 7 working days). Send remainder mail daily. The issue will get resolved
If they have not cleared the issue properly, File a case at Local Consumer Court. Nodal Team will come to the consumer feet

Operators and their black out days. Who use SMS these days? SMS rates are so high it better to call people. We have facebook, WhatsApp and all kind of messengers to send New Year wishs.

Recent data shows all operators SMS and Voice revenue are following significantly due to IM’s and VoIP. Now operators are expecting more revenue from data service. Hope they don’t put blackout days for data too.

I was received following SMS from AIRCEL Chennai :

    Dear Customer,
We deeply the inconvenience caused due to our service disruption on the 26th December 2013.
As a token of our appreciation for your patronage and support, we would like to offer 100 free local SMS on the 1st of january 2014.
    -
Hats off Aircel, who will give 100 free sms on blockout day.

But i dont know about this special 100 free sms offer for AIRCEL RoTN customers.

*One of the recent Aircel’s bad or worst move is even though we subscribed any SMS rate-cutter, first sms of the day will be charged and we cant send more than 10 Free national sms, Thereafter Aircel is charged Rs.1.20/Sms, this is the one of the biggest disadvantages in AIRCEL CHENNAI and AIRCEL ROTN.

    :-)

    • Kingston December 29, 2013 4:28 pm

I also got that SMS because my number belongs to Aircel Chennai but its not a offer. They are giving because of their network issue on 26th, otherwise they won’t give.

    • Kavin December 29, 2013 11:38 pm

No such thing (yet) for Aircel, RoTN, though I was in Chennai on Dec 26. :(

  • vinay December 29, 2013 10:25 am

  • SS December 29, 2013 8:44 am

Ha! Clever ain’t they? With the decline in usage of sms packs (and thanks to 100 sms/day policy of the government) they want to gain something at least on new year day.

  • nitish December 29, 2013 3:49 am

Dear Customer all sms sent on 31-dec-13 & 1-jan- 14 will be charged as per your base tariff plan. Free/discounted sms will not be applicable . Thank You.

  • Natkhat Bachcha December 29, 2013 1:59 am

I guess this is excellent news for “purane chawal” also known as old people who have not yet graduated to Whatsapp or BBM, etc. Rest of the folks on Whatsapp Facebook don’t need this as people just like me haven’t used text messages for ages unless there’s an aged person who says “Beta mujhe SMS kar do”.

I guess operators now realize it and hence we have this offer floating, soon there won’t any blackout days, even then people would care less!

Dear Idea, here, take this Rs 5 note and shove it up your *ahem* and send yourself 50 text messages saying Happy New Year. Please have a new year resolution to come up with better plans for your users. Thank you.

  • Dr.Manu Arora December 29, 2013 1:40 am

Lol… Who uses text msg now? Majority of people are using Whatsapp, Bbm, viber etc. It has been more than a year, I haven’t sent anyone text message… These plans are crap.

    • Shahin MB December 29, 2013 8:28 pm

      true…

  • Amit December 29, 2013 1:30 am

well thanks to whatsapp , i no longer send a text message now. Though sms is undoubtedly the most reliable thing. I believe by next year operators “may” remove blackout days !!

    • Hunter December 29, 2013 5:15 pm

All who r doing publicity of whats app and bbm or Fb mssgr they need to say thank Karbonn, micromax, intex, lava etc to buy a handset for 3000 Rs and use 5Rs 20 mb or more 2g pack and start using BBM, Whatsapp.
coz there r lots off ppl here who use mobile since we born and they had pay 50Rs per min for local call.
So nothing to be old just time scenario have been changed…
