I don’t understand a simple thing – How 2G rates are at par with 3G rates? It means there is no differentiation between 2G & 3G. 3G offers more speed than 2G. Then why a 2G consumer would pay comparatively more for lesser speed? The company may argue then, they are pricing this way to motivate customers to migrate to 3G. But, if a customer does not need 3G, then why should he/she would switch to it? And, again why should a 2G customer would pay the price equivalent to 3G? Moreover, are the operators providing the real 3G experience (the committed minimum 3G speed) to their customers? The answer is a big “No”. The price points are just a gimmick and the customers are milked through that.

  • Navin November 16, 2013 6:49 pm

90%…… hahaha…… no reduction in DATA Packs…… whats the use then…. according to default base rates 1GB = 2000Rs…. seriously…. kya bakwas news hai…..

  • Manish Adhikari November 16, 2013 12:36 pm

Aircel now a days doing very good in Data speed. May be other operators upgrading their 3G and they don’t look at 2G speeds but i can bet aircel in Delhi-NCR region gives best ever speed as compared with all other operators 2G speed present in the same region.

    In kolkata I use 400rs reliance 3g and get 6gb …bifurcated in 3 months
    Effectively 67rs/gb 3g
    Who says 3g is costly

    • Amit Kumar Das (Kolkata) November 15, 2013 10:22 am

      Same Here.

  • global November 14, 2013 10:52 am

    What’s the use… 2p/10 kb = 2000/GB!!!!

  • Jagannath November 14, 2013 1:38 am

For data, what I do is (Reliance 3G):
Recharge with Rs.123 1GB 3G data pack of Reliance for 1st month.
    From 2nd month onwards I recharge with Rs.57 pack (Rs.47 talktime + 50mb 3g data every month)
So, in short my data pack costs Rs.10 per month for subsequent months :D
The 57 pack needs to be recharged 1 day before the expiry of your data pack so that the left over data balance is carried forward to the next month.

Very useful if you use your smartphone just for whatsapp, facebook or checking emails.

    • Souradip November 14, 2013 7:14 pm

In which ur getting this offer

  • Ranjan Kumar November 13, 2013 11:21 pm

Somehow I fail to understand the rational behind data tariff plans especially for the 2G. Most operators offer 2G plans of 250MB/3days,500MB/7days or some even 1GB to be used up in a short span of time. Even if one spend the entire duration of the offer period without doing any other work, there could still be some unutilized part from the offered pack. Bcoz of the same, I am yet to take a data pack in my life so far. Believe me, if they had offered me the same amt of data at even 4 times their current prices, but with validity of 3/6/12 months, I would have gone for a data pack. I am sure those who have taken it once also, would think twice to go for it again in their life, bcoz of the huge unutilized par (=loss of moeny) during the first instance.

Does anyone know of any company offering data packs with 365day validity?

    • darshan malu November 14, 2013 12:09 pm

Yup BSNL providing it for Rs 1251, 9gb 3g data with 365 days validity they show that its for data card but when I recharged I got the recharge for my mobile

  • Kapil November 13, 2013 10:18 pm

Advertising is another reason for this. Why need to sponsor f1 and wasting money.

  • Abrar November 13, 2013 8:50 pm

What rubbish! Despite knowing the fact that cost of data packs is negligible compared to data rates such tactics of idea won’t work.
I think telecom talk must abstain themselves from such marketing gimmicks of idea.

  • darshan malu November 13, 2013 7:33 pm

BSNL 3G providing this service from years and the problem of connecting solved from today in maharashtra and giving speed 2.1mbps on speed test.Morning around 10 or 11 am the customer care which was closed since 4 months for maharashtra started for few numbers when I asked customer care executive he said it will start for all number within 3 days
    so BSNL rocks again

  • Hitesh November 13, 2013 10:40 am

is this reduction only for prepaid customer or for postpaid customers as well

  • Ajjay November 13, 2013 9:48 am

The World is talking about 4G and many countries are already on 4G platform, But we are still struggling with 2G. The reason is tariff.
    Forget about 4G or 3G
2G is still not affordable to may of the subscribers, and thats probably the reason why 3G failed miserably in India.
Indian consumers are very price sensitive
Is it mainly because of the high license fees the Telcos pay to the Govt or the greediness of telcos?

Anyways, nothing will matter post Reliance Jio launch.

  • anoopck November 12, 2013 11:01 pm

dear SS, I hav seen the same headline in some national media too.. Do u think it wil make an impact on customers spendings.. ? When idea incresd their 1gb 2g data plan charge from 125 to 156 last week.. I couldnt find even a single line here… I dont ask u to praise govt companies or not to give negative news on bsnl.. Pls dont give misguiding headers like this… Just present the facts as it is.. Let the readers judge… Thank u.

  • alok November 12, 2013 10:43 pm

use videocon telecom sservices ..it is best

  • Kapil November 12, 2013 9:39 pm

One request to all operator. Stop such non sence reduction.

  • LolaChan November 12, 2013 8:47 pm

    better quit the idea

  • George November 12, 2013 8:21 pm

They should also reduce 3G plan rates by 90%.

    • Akhil Mohan November 17, 2013 5:03 pm

Why don’t you use your other name?? :P

  • anoopck November 12, 2013 8:14 pm

Even after reducing the data charges by 90%.. idea offers data @ 2Ps/10KB .. BSNL offers the same @ 1Ps/10KB for postpaid and @ 2Ps/10Kb for prepaid for the last few years.. If its 90% reduction, the Private operators were charging 90% extra from the customers till now…Here the media project it as a 90% reduction in data tariff.. When BSNL reduced its 3g data plans by nearly 50% (Rs 252 to 139 for 1gb) , the media wrote “BSNL increses 2G data tariff” .. this is called doublestandards.. This is the messsage to the telecom talk admins too .. i dont think, this message will get displayed .. Thank u.

    • Tamal November 12, 2013 9:30 pm

      haa haa!!!!!!!!!!!! rightly said……..

    • SS November 12, 2013 9:50 pm

      @anoopck
Any positive criticism about telecom talk is appreciated here so you don’t have to think that your message would not be displayed.

Secondly i want to clarify that telecom talk has never followed any double standards regarding BSNL. Telecom talk always aims to make article as neutral as possible. If by chance any special favour is shown, then the purpose wouldn’t be such.

      • Venkat November 13, 2013 12:30 pm

Dear anoopck , i criticised telecom talk for posting updates about some outdated technology phones. They published my comments. TT is always impartial and dedicated.

        • Tarun November 13, 2013 12:37 pm

          Dear Venkat,

I dont know what made you to say that we are impartial, but let me tell you one thing we are doing our best for our users interest, if you go through TT from the start we have been criticising what we think wrong in our eyes be it how big the operator is, cuz we know if it impacts end user it impact us as a end user cuz we are also using the same service what is offered by a operator.

          Thanks again Venkat

        • MA November 13, 2013 5:26 pm

Some of my comments regarding polls were not published at all. It was not anything against this site or the people who handle it, nor it was filled with abusive content. I wonder if even this will get posted. But what’s the point when one’s opinion is not considered at all?

  • Sugu November 12, 2013 7:20 pm

Hah! BSNL has been providing this for years!! I feel BSNL is the best, if we wouldn’t have to use plan vouchers every six months…..

And cheap Internet too! BSNL gives 2GB for 252rs!
On th e o th er hand idea at 251 and that too 1gb??!!

    Po

  • Iqbal November 12, 2013 5:09 pm

    Meaningless ! !
It should reduce monthly packs’ charges.

  • S. A. Rahman November 12, 2013 5:08 pm

Is this offer called PAY AS YOU GO FOR OTHER OPERATOR?

  • soumya November 12, 2013 1:44 pm

Joke of the future.. First impression before reading thought idea have reduced 2g data pack. Oh my god. Its reduced 2paise /10 KB… Who will surf Internet without data pack…. Lot of balance will go if u surf on 2 paise/10 KB..

  • vsk November 12, 2013 1:32 pm

Am from kerala..using idea ….now my tariff is 1.6p/sec …idea also increases price of 2g data packs …now its 155 for 1gb 2g…..no increment in speed….its speed is between 10-16 kbps download….what an idea….

  • Nandlal November 12, 2013 1:17 pm

Wow…. It is the happiest news for me that default base rate for data usage is reduced by 90% the greatest offer provided by Idea among all operators.

Shameless Idea if you actually want to give such offer and if you have courage then REDUCE THE DEFAULT BASE RATE FOR VOICE BY 90%.
You can not even reduce voice tariff by 0.0001% BLUDDY GREEDY, CHEATER, MONEY SUCKER, LOOTER, ROBBER, ETC, ETC.
They know not even a single customer use data with default base rate so they are giving such useless offers and want to make feel the customers that they are reducing tariff.

  • Faruk Kadir November 12, 2013 1:00 pm

    hahaha
They are going to troll again their customer
I am happy with aircel they are providing 128 rs 1gb 3g then Speed Capped to 128kbps
but still better for browsing with ping of 112 ms

    • Kingston November 13, 2013 10:30 am

Which Circle? I think now RC128 is limited pack in chennai.

  • Neilanjan November 12, 2013 12:46 pm

    Friends,
You all are failing to understand this tariff is only for occasional use of Internet through Mobile, most probably for emergency situations or for times when you don’t have access to Internet/Laptop nearby but need to go Online. For monthly and regular usages I am sure service providers have daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly packs available.
So, try not to mix it up with regular usage charges. This is quite good considering you need to check E-mail or send an Online message while out of home or travelling! :)

    • Ajjay November 13, 2013 11:09 am

how many occasional users are there in India?
miniscule? as compared to data pack users?

then what is the sense decreasing the data charges for miniscule customers and ignoring the larger base which uses regular data packs?

  • Amit Kumar Das (Kolkata) November 12, 2013 12:44 pm

Vodafone has announced that every year call charges will rise.
This has created negative influence on the customers.
Everybody is thinking that like Vodafone, Airtel and Idea will also do the same.
Due to this negative influence AVoId group may see decrease in customer base.
So I think this is a strategy by AVoId group to make us believe that nothing negative will happen immediately.
This is a strategy to divert customers’ mind from thinking that call charges will increase.
When all the customers will be convinced then they will hike the price step by step.
Thus they will be able to hike the price keeping the customer base unchanged.
This is my point of view.
    What do you guys think?

    no rate slashes…
    no , use
    10 KB = 2PS
    100KB= 20PS
    1MB= 2 RS
    1 GB= 2000 RS above so we will get 1GB @ RS 2000

  • Krish November 12, 2013 12:14 pm

This is how telecom operatore like Airtel, vodafone,Idea are cheating customers. 2paise/10 KB means 2 Rs per MB and finally a stupid customer will be ending up by paying 2048Rs. for just 1 GB. Terminology of “PAY AS YOU GO” look like non sense. Innocent customer without understanding properly will feel happy thinking operator reduced the Tariff..

    • Sreenivasa Reddy November 12, 2013 1:02 pm

U have told correctly. They just reduce the tariff for some time after the cusstomer gets habitated to browse without any gprs pack. They hike their prices. Stupid AVOId operators

  • Tharun George November 12, 2013 11:55 am

It is 2013 and operators measure data usage in KB. All broadband providers calculate extra usage in MB and even after 3G, mobile operators will stick to KB.

2p/10KB= Rs 2 per MB. Still very high. Broadband providers charge only 20p per MB for extra usage.

    • Upesh Patel November 12, 2013 12:39 pm

If they will do it like 20p/Mb then who will gonna recharge with data packs. only heavy users will recharge with data packs.

      • Tharun George November 12, 2013 2:28 pm

They could make it 50p or even 80p.
        50p/MB= Rs 512 for 1GB
        80p/MB= Rs 819 for 1GB

  • S.Sudhakar November 12, 2013 11:46 am

No use for Tamilnadu circle and for data pack consumers as operators have increased 2G data pack rates in the name of making 2G and 3G data pack same rate. Shameless operators.
