Idea Cellular today announced that it has deployed Nokia Siemens Networks Device Management solution to ensure seamless GPRS services in 20 operating circles which will now offer improved internet connectivity to its subscribers.
Anil Tandan Chief Technology Officer IDEA Cellular quoted “More consumers today are using their mobile phones to surf the Web, more than their personal computers. At IDEA Cellular, it’s important to us that our subscribers enjoy seamless data services so that they can always stay connected,The Nokia Siemens Networks Device Management solution and consulting services will help us achieve that aim, while reducing costs.”
“Data services provide a big business opportunity to operators, especially in a market like India where the average revenues per user (ARPUs) are among the lowest in the world. Therefore, it’s not only important that they provide a faster access to data services but also introduce new services according to customer preferences,” said Urs Pennanen, Head of India region, Nokia Siemens Networks.

the definition of broadband for india i.e any speed equal or greater than 256kbps will be considered as broadband was defined 3-4 yrs ago ….. it is time to change this definition if India wants to compete other nations in broadband field
Genius November 13, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Indian government should take some actions and bring down the internet subscription prices in India. 256KBPS is consider as broadband in India, it makes us feel we are still living in stone age, I mean, look at the other developing countries, the internet subscription charges are very less and speed are far superior, I wish, TelecomTalk.Info should encourage this campaign (Bring down the prices and provide better speed internet connection), and make our voices reach the responsible authoritative persons who can make changes. If this doesn’t happen the then Telecom/Internet providers continue to do so and 256 KBPS will continue to be consider as broadband and internet subscriptions prices will never come down.

true. indian telecom companies are looting indians.
stalin November 13, 2009 at 9:27 pm
idea: rs.25/day = rs.750/30days… too high for india.
ramesh katewa November 13, 2009 at 6:51 pm
@stalin
hi,
hw much idea is charging for unlimted internet per day is it rs 25.plz tell
raghu November 13, 2009 at 5:13 pm
both dsl and wireless internet prices should be brought down drastically… international prices are 10cents/gb or rs.5/gb… so telcos are currently overcharging indians. globally, in countries like s.korea, u.s etc unlimited 2mbps speed is available at $15-20/month. so in comparision to global rates, indian internet prices are way too high and speeds too less. trai and govt needs to do something regarding this.
stalin November 13, 2009 at 3:45 pm
idea… pls launch unlimited gprs/edge for rs.99/week and rs.399/month in mumbai
Agnivo November 13, 2009 at 3:41 pm
@ronit
True, but who cares? Even per GB on DSL isn’t Rs.50, leave alone wireless net!
ronit November 13, 2009 at 1:28 pm
gprs/edge data rates are too high… it should be no more than rs.50/gb and 1p/100kb.
rajiev November 13, 2009 at 12:51 pm
