I don’t know because I don’t want to enquire much about that operator which is the costliest operator in TN (Rs.325 bonus card for LOCAL : onnet at Rs.0.10 and offnet at Rs.0.30 and all STD mobiles at Rs.0.70 – all per minute with 90 days validity !!!).

    @ Sudhakar
    thanks what about Vodafone?

  • Sudhakar August 30, 2012 8:03 pm

    To Sajjad :

If you want to use only data, better use Reliance GSM GPRS or BSNL GPRS. It gives upto 15 KB/s in laptop (after disabling all flash animations and ads).

    Amit Deb Biswas :

R R Kumar :idea is practically a regional operator…avoid while roaming

    how can u say that??????????

when your gprs/3g plans and sms and other stv work only in the confines of one telecom circle, what else is it practically ?? whats the use of having pan india presence when it can’t come to the use of its subscribers ???

    @ sajjad
i too ported in from vodafone to idea….activated 26Rs gprs pack…but still they deducting money when i use gprs…very strange
so i am also waiting for port out to aicel or docomo

  • sajjad August 29, 2012 11:51 pm

    @Saurabh
s sirji it is the biggest problem of idea they charge for data in roaming. i port in my karnataka number in idea from docomo, on day one i recharged 98 gprs pack of 1
gb. then i recharged 200 in main balance. while i was in tn roaming. with in few minutes all my main balance became zero.
it was i experienced by any operator. so now i m waiting for my remaining 90days to port out from idea to Vodafone.

    Ravi,
Tamilnadu Videocon, IDEA and Aircel CC said that they will deduct Rs.0.10 per 10 KB (KiloByte) during NATIONAL ROAMING irrespective of the data pack that is activated. I don’t know about Vodafone because it is the costliest operator in Tamilnadu (Rs.325 booster card for LOCAL : onnet calls at Rs.0.10 per min and offnet mobiles at Rs.0.30 per min and STD mobiles at Rs.0.70 per minute)

This means any data pack activated in home circle will not be valid (just like VIDEOCON Tamilnadu) during NATIONAL roaming.

Waste IDEA. Better use any one of these SIM for data during roaming : Airtel, BSNL (or MTNL), Reliance GSM which offer data packs during NATIONAL roaming also.

    For Reliance GSM Tamilnadu :
The data pack (if any) will be valid in any network (Aircel also for example) during NATIONAL roaming.

    Tata docomo :
Data pack can be used in Tata docomo roaming network only. Since its coverage is worst at most of the places, it gets logged into AIRCEL network. So data pack is of no use.
(All the GPRS packs will be available to Tata DOCOMO subscribers on Tata DOCOMO Home and Tata DOCOMO roaming network only).

Does Idea 2G data pack work in roaming?

  • Sudhakar August 29, 2012 7:16 pm

IDEA Tamilnadu customer care attends with less holding time. Calling rate is good. But the tower sharing method with VODAFONE is not working in non coverage areas.

  • NIKUNJ August 29, 2012 7:04 pm

Vodafone have largest customer base in Gujarat

  • NIKUNJ August 29, 2012 7:03 pm

IDEA GUJARAT cusomer care is shit!

  • jigar patel August 29, 2012 5:55 pm

In Gujarat Idea is top service provider for Network coverage & also for full Talktime offer i.e on Recharge 25 you get 30 TT & on Rch 20 you get 20 TT FOR almost all customer with lifetime validity Talktime main a/c balance,
IDEA INTRODUCE ZERO RENTAL ROAMING OFFER FOR GUJARAT SERICE AREA is preactivated as by conform idea store and also customer care.

idea is practically a regional operator…avoid while roaming

  • Sonu August 29, 2012 3:31 pm

BSNL is providing incoming & outgoing same price as in home location + if u have data pack then data in roaming is also free. Idea is no 1 in activation of VAS services without customer concern.

  • Saurabh August 29, 2012 3:26 pm

Yups. Idea do charge for data in roaming at base rate and that’s one of the negative I found in Idea. As I’ve posted here many times that Idea is best operator in our circle with largest 2G and 3G coverage along-with Vodafone which also has coverage at par with Idea but they (Idea Cellular Limited) are the only ones to charge for data in roaming as all other either it be Airtel, Aircel, BSNL, Tata Docomo, Reliance, Videocon, Vodafone are not charging for Internet usage while roaming. There were times when Idea and Airtel were the only two not to charge for data in roaming but since the introduction of low cost 2G packs Idea started charging. I’m not a frequent roamer but all of my friends who use data packs and keep roaming have either shifted to new operator or ported-out from Idea.

Even Vodafone had stopped data charges in roaming few months back.

Charging For Data in Roaming? Not a Good Idea, Sirji.

It will happen after the implementation of NTP.@ S.Sudhakar

  • TCP August 29, 2012 1:54 pm

I completely agree… Docomo already provides this price pack to all its prepaid subscribers without any activation. And wow! I didn’t know that! Idea DOESN’T allow Data Roaming even when you have a pack activated???

Thank God I’m on Docomo! :)

BSNL offers all incoming / outgoing @1.2p/sec Pan India except Mumbai/ Delhi on Plan Voucher 42 (PerSecPlan). Its default. No Need of STV.

  • S.Sudhakar August 29, 2012 1:13 pm

All providers must make all home network booster packs while roaming also.

Suppose if Rs.225 booster pack in Airtel Tamilnadu gives onnet calls at Rs.0.10 per min and all local offnet and STD calls at Rs.0.50 per minute, it must also provide same tariffs (call Delhi Airtel mobiles at Rs.0.10 per minute, Delhi offnet networks and STD calls at Rs.0.50 per minute and incoming at Rs.0.50 per minute) when roaming in Delhi for example.

  • S.Sudhakar August 29, 2012 1:08 pm

Crap offer. Rs.0.012 per second for incoming call and for mobile outgoing call makes Rs.0.72 per minute and for landlines it comes to Rs.0.90 per minute which is almost the same as base roaming tariff plan of Rs.1.00 per minute for incoming and local outgoing calls and Rs.1.50 for all STD calls.

TATA docomo already provides Rs.0.015 per second for all calls without any packs. I agree that the network is worst.

the worst operator for roaming.. even charging for 2g data outside ur circle even though u hve data pack activated.. big fail….

  • anurags August 29, 2012 12:56 pm

the worst operator for roaming… it is only idea dat doesnt allow data roaming.. and here in a talking about 2g not 3g….even if u have a data pack active in ur account u have to pay data as per base rate in roaming… the biggest failure even in this age of smart phone..
