IDEA Cellular today officially rolled out its GSM mobile service in the country’s Eastern state of West Bengal and Kolkata telecom circle. The official launching function was held at The Oberai Grand in Kolkata in the special presence of company’s Brand ambassador and bollywood Star Abhishek Bachchan.
The copany announced it’s 2.75G EDGE enable GSM network in West Bengal and Kolkata will now cover the entire length of the country from Rajasthan in the West to West Bengal in the Eastern parts of India.IDEA Cellular has added Kolkata and West Bengal as its 19th and 20th circle on the Company’s Pan India operation. In earlier post Telecom Talk was the first website, which bought Exclusive detail of Kolkata launch.
In keeping with the recent brand campaign, IDEA Brand Ambassador Abhishek Bachchan came in ‘Walking & Talking’ to the launch ceremony in Kolkata, in a symbolic gesture to flag off the services. At the event, Bachchan urged his fellow brethren in Bengal to join the fastest growing mobile network in India . IDEA Cellular launched specially tailored tariff plan for West Bengal and Kolkata with lowest local call charges as 30 paisa.
With the special tariff plan, its prepaid subscribers in West Bengal and Kolkata, can make Local call to any network just at 30 paisa per minute for 1st month, and STD calls and SMS on any network across India at just 60 paisa per minute or per SMS. From the 2nd month the local call will be chargeable just at 40 paisa to any local network for next 11 month while all STD calls and SMS charged at 60 paisa. The new Life Time Preapid SIM priced at Rs.49 comes with a rolling tariff validity of 12 months.
With the launch operations in the East – Kolkata & West Bengal, IDEA cellular will cover Assam & North East – by year end, IDEA will have 100% coverage in the country.
IDEA’s initial network of 1,150 cell sites will progressively grow to a deep rooted network of over 2,800 cell sites to cover more than 8,200 towns & villages, by end of March 2010. IDEA’s 2.75G EDGE enabled network will cover 8 major districts, namely Hooghly, Burdwan, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Bankura and Purulia, during the launch phase, and will be expanded to cover 22 districts of West Bengal & Sikkim, before the end of current financial year. With the launch in Kolkata, IDEA has now covered all the metros in the country.

With the launch of IDEA in West Bengal, mobile users in the state will now have a rich experience while using value added services such as Music download, Dialer Tones, Voice chat, web-infotainment, high-speed internet Data Card, and other Internet-based multi-media experiences on their EDGE-enabled mobile phones.
Currently IDEA is present in 18 out of 22 telecom circles in the country. It has over 47 million GSM mobile subscribers under the brand “IDEA”. While the company has licenses and spectrum to operate in all 22 service areas of India at present.

R e yaar,why r u people so interested in these new operators.Already there r very much good companies(in term of call rate,coverage)like vodafone,airtel.Remember Idea recently told that ‘these per second plans are unsustainable’.
Afterall vodafone,airtel are not dumb.They will never launch a facility which is unsustainable.Also their management board people r more talented than others.Afterall vodafone is a international company having much experience.So go for vodafone only.

Airtel is slightly behind in coverage when compared with Vodafone in Kolkata may be 5% diffrence between them.I am not using Vodafone as i am satisfied with Airtel

I think vodafne and airtel both are the best. regarding the coverage cocern voda and airtel cover all around 94% to 95% kolkata and west bengal circle. in my old house in dankuni in kolkata circle vodafone have full signal but airtel hav only 2 signal bar. if u see in Bhimeshwari Bazar under Bhagabanpur block in East Midnapore Dist Airtel not having any signal only Bsnl and Vodafone present. i am giveing u an example u see lots of that. i am useing vodafone and airtel both for last 9 years and 4 years. customer care concern both are the best among the all telecom company. that is my view.

Idea has launched a per second billing plan and their normal bill plan with the call charges at 1p/sec for local and std, and 40p & 60p for local and std with validity of 365 days.Hope they give a tough time for Airtel and Vodafone in kolkata and ROB, now Airtel and Vodafone seems to suck let apart Aircel with their hopeless network as like Dhoni’s hopeless batting performances in recent times.Its a really good idea Sirji…………………..

Aircel? Only if you want the cheap (and dead slow) pocket internet. Else good for nothing! In RoB aircel really sucks. Airtel is my first choice, but gonna take an !dea sim too soon… but waiting for others to come in by end of the year.
My suggestion to new SIM buyers: get Airtel, activate flat 50p for 1yr and have peace of mind…really atoot network!

CERTAINLY NOT BROTHER.THERE HAS BEEN NO DOUBT THAT AIRTEL IS THE BEST IN KOLKATA.NO CONGESTION NO SERVER DOWN NO E-RECHARGE FAILURE CUSTOMER FRIENDLY CC. VODAFONE KOLKATA IS JUST OPPOSITE WITH A FAU MONOPOLISTIC NATURE.

But I am again saying you that Vodafone,RCDMA,Airtel have very good service all over India.But they don’t have pay per second plan.If you have to use pay per second plan then only Aircel.Both TATA,IDEA don’t have proper network in Kolkata & ROB(only IDEA).
