The company has added over 2 Lakh 3G subscribers in Kerala where services were introduced just two months ago. IDEA Cellular today also announced the launch of its 3G Mobile and Data services in 2 more towns – Trivandrum and Nedumangad – in addition to Kochi, Calicut, Trichur, Palghat, Kannur, Malapuram, Alleppey, Pathanamthitta & Kollam in Kerala circle. Idea’s national 3G footprint now covers over 400 towns and company said that it is progressively growing at the rate of 10 towns per day to cover 750 towns by mid 2011, and 4,000 townsby the end of FY12. As of now Idea Cellular 3G services are now available in 9 circles – MP, Gujarat, HP, UP West, UP East, AP, Kerala, Haryana and Maharashtra & Goa. Currently, 10% of Idea subscribers in these markets are said to be using 3G enabled handsets. It is expected that these users will be the early adopters of 3G services. Finally Idea has also bring the much awaited GPRS usage check facility for its customers. From yesterday Idea users in Haryana(Don’t know about other circles) are getting remaining GPRS data left in their acc. info. through SMS at the end of every session. The SMS not only contains data left and validity info. but also the data used in last session and duration. But they should have brought this thru USSD. Still no info. regarding SMS keywords to know data balance.

@sachu is the chargesby idea cheaper than BSNL where they are charging 20ps per kbps that is 2000rs for 1GB..how much IDEA is CHARGING..since i want to purchase a 3G card ..also any operators giving 3G card or new sims with offer price

Buddy, Aircel is a Lazy Operator. Always Network Is A Big Issue In The Area Where I’m Located. This Lazy Aircel Has Not Deployed The Towers Where The Network is Poor. I’m Staying at Arekere, Bannerghatta Road and I Can Able To Access All Operators Signals In Indoors. But This Aircel’s Indoor Coverage is Bad at Ground Floor Of My Home. Everytime I Used To Visit Aircel COCO Regarding This Issue. Their COCO and Networking Engineers are Lazy Fellows Than Any Operators. But Better Than BSNL

Have the pvt operators achieved REALTIME was achieved in video calls for which there operations were stopped by TRAI…which is a threat to our nation’s security as told by our GOVT agencies when they stiopped the video calls..

idea is lunching 3G in karnataka and mumbai.. they are lunching.. they dont have licence.. but they are asking spectrum frm other telecom and they lunching…

idea 3g is badly capped in pune and other parts of maharashtra,average speed in pune is just 350-600 kbps,agar kismat chamki to kabhi kabhar 1mbps ka speed cross hota hai.

Yes they are launching in mumbai and also in karnataka circle. idea is planning to launch 3G PAN india within Q2 2012. but it will be launching in mumbai and karnataka within 3months!!

BSNL has no overage in my home but Idea has. They also provide similar data plans like bsnl. 199 for 500MB. 450 for 1250MB. Also I can do this recharge from every corner. So I am with Idea.

Most of them just activated 3G service and not a active user of costly 3G service.

The pace at which Idea is launching 3G n covering areas is quite impressive. Almost 450+ cities/towns have been covered in short span. I know the figure of 2 lacs 3G subscribers is not true at all. Only 5-7K had choosen a 3G plan but more and more will turn to 3G with price corrections. Until now I’m sticking to Reliance Netconnect BB+ 18GB for 6 months @3000 plan which is Rs.500/3GB/month. If operators come with 5GB @500 for 3G it will be beneficial for both company as well as customers.

I don’t know whether Idea is launching 3G in Mumbai or not but A operator can use other operators spectrum for providing service . It is like the deal between TATA DoCoMo and MTNL Mumbai for lauching DoCoMo 3G in Mumbai. ( Try to google it for more information. )

i planned switch to idea but i found u cant chek data balance in idea
agar main 103 ka recharge kar ke 200Mb 3G use karna cahta hun to kaise karoon
i cant chek remain data balance …i allways maintain 2000 Rs and above in my prepaid agar ussme se 1500 Rs idea detect karle to kaisa feel hoga bhai thats why i didnt port into idea…
Its happenes with me idea ne ek hi ghante me mere 400 Rs detect kar liye…uske baad idea ka sim nikal kar fek dia kachre ke dabbe me….

docomo is providing 3g services at calicut using aircel spectrum… if we manually select aircel 3g thru docomo sim it will show home network selected… good speed too…

Idea is doing great work. The speed at which it is covering towns is really impressive. Aircel should learn from it whic has not covered most of the towns. idea is soon launchin 3G in Karnataka too.

All 3G operators are counting the users with 3G handsets (and latched to 3G signals, especially by selecting the option DUAL_Mode in NetworkOption) and NOT by purchase of 3G data-cards or anything…
With sky-high 3G tariffs, pvt operators can’t increase 3G subscribers this fast, imho…
