In an attempt to provide greater benefits to mobile users of Assam and North East telecom circles as well as In-Roamers in North East India, The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has asked Mobile Service operators (CMTS/UAS) to lift the ban on Prepaid Roaming Service in Assam and North East.
Now prepaid mobile subscribers of North East including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram can Roam all across India except in Jammu & Kashmir circle.
According to DoT circular No. 800-14/2011-VAS, the Prepaid mobile subscribers from other circles across India (except J&K) also can enjoy seamless Roaming in Assam & NE telecom circles.
Earlier the prepaid mobile service users of other telecom circles of India are not allowed Roaming facilities while visiting seven North Eastern states including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram due to security reasons.

@Sibasish Mazumder
Tata DoCoMo not present in Assam or NE Circle.
You need to Roam on AirTel, Aircel, Vodafone, IDEA network, if there is a tie-up!

Does tata docomo prepaid sim of west bengal circle works in assam after lifting the roaming bar from assam and northeast.
Ratul Chakravarty August 6, 2011 at 3:23 pm
@Ankur
Reliance has not started it’s CDMA service in Assam & NE circles inspite of having the liscense for some 4 years now. So whether it is prepaid or postpaid, Reliance CDMA will not work in AS & NE. Tata Indicom CDMA will work in AS & NE, prepaid roaming will also work now as DoT has lifted the ban on prepaid roaming for AS & NE circles. Also CDMA phones are not interoperable i.e. you cannot roam with a CDMA phone of one network in another CDMA network, the same network has to be there. e.g. if you have a Reliance CDMA connection, you can roam in Reliance CDMA network, you cannot roam in say TATA Indicom CDMA network or MTS CDMA network.
