The number of telephone subscribers in India has increased to 525.65 million as on October 31, 2009, compared with 509.03 million posted in September-2009.
The subscriber growth registered a 3.26 per cent, which helped in which helped in improving overall tele-density in India to 44.87.
Wireless subscriber base increased from 471.73 million in September 2009 to 488.40 million at the end of October 2009 at a monthly growth rate of 3.53 per cent, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Read more…
Tata Docomo the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Limited, today slashed its roaming tariff introducing per-second billing for all calls made or received while ‘roaming’ across the country, at its existing tariff of 1 paisa per second for both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers.
From Monday, while roaming, subscribers can make calls across India at 1 paisa per second, across all 15 Circles where Tata Docomo has launched GSM services, regardless of which network or type of phone the call is made to.Furthermore, incoming calls while roaming will also be charged on a per-second basis, at 1 paisa per second. He quoted that its the cheap labor and economies of scale that they can produce tri SIM mid-range handsets for $40 (<Rs.2000) at their factory. In a bid to intensify the healthy competition in the world’s fastest growing telecom market with the improved QoS at lower call charges, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today fixed Rs.19 for the Mobile Number Portability Per Port Transaction Charge. The Indian telecom regulator also announced Dipping Charges for the upcoming Mobile Number Portability.
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows the Mobile service subscribers to retain their existing mobile number when they move from one Service Provider to another Service Provider with in a same licensed service area. This move is irrespective of the mobile technology or from one cellular mobile technology to another of the same access provider, in a licensed service area. In other words, the Mobile Service Subscriber can switch from CDMA to GSM as well as GSM to CDMA.The facility of retention of existing mobile number despite moving to a new telecom/Mobile service provider helps in increasing competition between the service providers and acts as a catalyst for the service providers to improve their quality of service.
