Telenor May Exit From India If Spectrum Price is Kept High

The TRAI recommendation which proposed ten times higher value of spectrum is already slammed by operators, even GSMA opposes this move.

Telenor majority stake holder of uninor Tele-ventures says that they may exit from India if spectrum price is kept so high as per TRAI’s recommendation.

The company also says TRAI proposal for only 5mhz spectrum auction on 1800mhz band is nothing but create artificial scarcity of spectrum.

Telenor Group Executive Vice President Sigve Brekke cited “If these recommendations become policy, then the Government of India will be forcing Telenor Group to exit. It will be almost impossible for us to participate in the upcoming auctions. Read more…

Supreme Court To Centre, Grant New 2G Licences Till 31st August 2012

The Supreme Court today extended time till August 31 for the auction and grant of fresh 2G mobile service licences in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation case and further cited that operators having existing licence would continue till September 7.

The Supreme Court also refused to grant 400 days to the Government to complete the process of fresh auctioning of the 2G spectrum and licences but extended the deadline for it from June 2 to August 31, 2012.

It will be the big relief for the operators like MTS India (SSTL) and Uninor which are serious to continue the services among all new operators whose 2G mobile service licences were canceled by the Supreme Court in its 2G verdict on 2nd February 2012. Read more…

Uninor Shines in Gujarat Witness Strong Subscriber GrowthUninor continues to witness strong subscriber growth across its 13 commercial circles. In Gujarat, Uninor added highest number of subscribers during February 2012 making it number one in terms of subscriber additions.

More than four lakh (as per COAI) subscribers chose Uninor services in the month of February alone, the highest ever by Uninor in Gujarat, clearly establishing the success of “Uninor Etle Faydo” campaign where a consumer gets more talk-time than the recharge amount.

Uninor Intros STV39 in Kolkata and West BengalUninor has introduced a new special tariff voucher for Kolkata and West Bengal.

Uninor’s latest offering STV39 will offer local onnet calls at 10paisa per minute, local offnet calls at 30paisa per minute, SMS at 20paisa and all STD calls at 40paisa per minute. The pack will be valid for 30 days.

Few days back Uninor customer said that 2G data services of this operator degraded a lot, and this voucher is targeted to voice and sms customers.

It seems Uninor is not focused on data customers, their focus is still on those customers looking for cheapest voice and SMS tariff. Read more…
