Calcutta Telephones Shares EVDO Location Details, Only 45% BTS in the Metro Are EVDO Enabled

Calcutta Telephones Shares EVDO Location Details, Only 45% BTS in the Metro Are EVDO EnabledCalcutta Telephones – the Kolkata metro unit of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has listed the details of CDMA 1x and EVDO BTS location on their website.

As per information given there, CalTel has installed 316 CDMA BTS, among them 143 BTS are EVDO enabled, while 173 BTS are just equipped with CDMA1x. That means only 45.3 % BSNL’s CDMA BTS are EVDO enabled.

It also reveals that in Bidhannagar, City, North Kolkata and South Kolkata you will get quite vast coverage of BSNL EVDO. While in sururban areas like Alipore has only 34% of BTS with EVDO enabled; while Barrackpore and Srirampore area has less than 10% of BTS with EVDO enabled.

There is high demand of BSNL EVDO in Kolkata sub-urban as BSNL offers true unlimited data usage on EVDO at the cheapest price and these areas have lack of fibre based broadband operators like Reliance, Alliance, Meghbela and Airtel while 3G/HSPA services are quite costly.

As BSNL has chosen Huawei, ZTE and Alcatel-Lucent for their network expansion we only can hope that company will expand EVDO network in Kolkata’s sub-urban areas.

    @Tapash Debnath
    What EDVO offers is amazing … & economical too ..I am from barasat {kolkata -700126}..I want to subscribe it …But , I am confused..Could anyone tell me what is actual state of service of EVDO in barasat..download speed , stability , location of the nearest tower ..And if tower is installed at all here , then how can @Tapash Debnath is getting service in Habra ?

    Reception {Barasat Telephone Exchange } told me ” It is available ” But someone fro Broadband Section told me ” It is not available ” ..Commercial Officer was not available when I contacted ..

    I am from Habra (North 24 Parganas). I bought EVDO confirming that network coverage is good in our locality. Most of the time i stay near Saltlake in Chingrighata. I stay in my home only in weekends. I thought that if it is giving good speed in my area i.e. far from Kolkata then it will certainly give good speed in Kolkata too. But my expectations broke when I found that in my home speed is decent enough. I got 100kbps download speed in an average,but in Kolkata(Chingrighata) speed is very poor. Signal strength is very poor and I can hardly open any page for browsing. Download speed not more than 15 kbps in an average. So its not more than any 2G connection. Its very unusual to have good strength in rural areas but poor signal strength in Metro!!! :( :(

    Chinmoy :

    ankush :this expansion in not possible because BSNL is using ZTE’s EVDO and from 2010 the ZTE has stopped production of EVDO BTS,,,, and now BSNL has to re-tender from new companies and it vl take tym,,,, till then use only 1-x

    You are right Ankush , even the AMC for EDVO BTS from ZTE is over . Existing EVDO BTS will die its natual death very soon . And with greedy and corrupt officials in BSNL the accelaration will be faster . Kalyani is a small township in Bengal and its known as Education Hub . It has 5 University , 4 Engineering College, 1 Medical College , 1 Law College , 1 General Degree College ( and counting ) . The need for Internet is very high here . It falls under Barrackpore Division of Calcutta Telephone . All three EVDO BTS under Barrackpore Division is in Kalyani only . Out of these three 2 BTS is down with cable being stolen for long . Telephone Exchange has a worst Customer Care team and they now stopped selling EVDO and discourage people of using the same since connectivity is very poor . Poople has now no choice but shift to TATA Photon Plus or MTS MBlaze.
    Interestingly this location had Calcutta Telecom’s first 4G BTS too (WiMax and not LTE ) and after running sucessfully for a year , WiMax BTS also had its natual death . God save BSNL !

    you are rgt bro… in dis regard when i contacted BSNL, the employees told me the real reality. they told me that its the whole conspiracy of UPA govt, as the DGM,GM,CGM & above all are not BSNL staff and they are on deputation in BSNL and are looting this company. The govt. dnt want to take this burden to take back to DoT. In short, decision taking officers have nothing to do with BSNL and there deciosions are either rubbish or in the favor of pvt companies.

    @RDB,they probably published this info because of your repeated mailing.instead of enabling the tower with EVDO,they mentioned the no of EVDO enabled towers.if you could stick to the gun,may be in future they will do something about it!!
    best of luck to all barrackporians

    Coverage range and traffic handling capacity of CDMA EVDO BTS is more than GSM BTS, this might be the reason for BSNL not having all BTS EVDO equipped.

    I am using BSNL EVDO for the last 3 months and the service is more or less satisfactory…but tower sometimes fluctuates here in P.A.Shah Road-Abhishikta Bypass Connector Area..quite slow in camac street..blazing fast in Moulali…even in shantiniketan (Bolpur) and bandel I got near about 900 kpbs speed with BSNL EVDO
