BSNL Upgrades Landline and Broadband Billing System

BSNL Upgrades Landline and Broadband Billing SystemIndia’s largest telecommunication service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to migrate its existing billing system to state-of-art Call Detail Record (CDR) billing system for all of landline and broadband customers.

The first run of the new billing system was done on Calcutta Telephones (BSNL Kolkata), with effect from billing period Nov’11 (Bill dates between 01.12.2011 to 31.12.2011).

Now after the successful migration to new billing system in Kolkata circle, BSNL is going to upgrade the billing system for all circles from March, 2012.

The new billing system will be based on circle/zone wise, and it will contain itemized billing, call details, free calls, meter reading, previous payments, discounts etc. just like private operators do.During this migration procedure there will be some minor and temporary problem with bill payment but BSNL customer care services is well informed and happy to help you.

The Current meter wise billing system is not transparent and has issues like.

1. No. of actual free calls used does not have any information like which type of calls were made, Local Landline, Mobile or STD

2. Chargable calls calculations

4. No details about Landline plan and broadband plan

5. No Call details

6. No Usage/consumption of Broadband data for the month

As per their new CDR system they are saying they are going to rectify the above problems so if this is into action then BSNL will have service and billing system neck to neck with Private operators and this is a win win situation for customer and BSNL.

My August 2014 month Broadband data Usage/consumption was 1.01 GB( 1040 MB approx). Still I can check that in my mobile in Settings-Data Usage. Out of which 1 GB is free for me. So I should be charged only for extra .01 GB.
But BSNL has charged me approx 600 Rs. more bill for that month. When I asked about that, they are saying that my internet usage was 1660 MB. So either they are making fraud or there’s some problem in their system. Because I don’t think my mobile will be faulty. Another other having same issue?

could anybody tell how to see the bill amount in the net without creating user id & password. I happen to see earlier, i.e. before CDR billing system, just using consumer number and phone number.

    Dear Mr. Das…

thank you for your previous comments… But if you see, Chennai bsnl circle migrated to CDR billing very recently. Some e-services menu are still under construction. I spoke with BSNL customer care and they too accepted that its not possible to generate ebill in the CDR system as of now

    Good move

  • Mr Das February 29, 2012 5:40 pm

Mr Arvind, in new system you can get the e-bill fully, itemized billing for voice & data both available, voice call detail record, data usages detail with system mac address details, charge for broadband, credit adjustment every thing are reflecting on bill, their is no extra charge for all these facilities. even online payment with 1% discount also available.

  • aravind February 28, 2012 7:54 pm

in the previous billing system we were abl to view the ebill fully.. but now only the amount that has to be paid is being displayed.. breakup of the bill like how much charge for calls made, charge for bb usage, STD call details, Creadit adjustment details etc are not displayed in the new billing system.. guess BSNL wants to overcharge its customers like private operators…

Apparently the bill is different states, the bill currently being provided to me is very confusing, the data consumption is given in KB and that doesn’t match with what I see on my usage page. Also, I am unable to see previous months usage on the ndc portal I still rely on the 10.240.43.216 address.

    BSNL rocks !
This new CDR system is very good . TCS has migrated BSNL from Old to new Billing system . The best part of it is its transparency . Also the added Siebel based Self Help portal ( eCustomer Care ) is so good . It give various service . You can log and monitor problem ticket , apply various service , change broadband password , check usage for bb and call details . In one word its just too good !
However it seems BSNL Kolkata circle has not been able to fully migrate into CDR yet . Ideally CDR aims to integrate all service under an Account Number . Landlines and Associated BB has been clubbed into one while FTTH/ CDMA/ EVDO/ CellOne GSM service continue to have seperate billing system . I am sure in long run these will also get merged .

CDR had already started in rest of bengal way ahead of kolkata circle, also this billing is far more expressive and convenient than earlier billing systems, this project should have been started at least 4 or 5 years before, nevertheless ‘der aaye durust aaye’.

  • Chethan S. February 27, 2012 1:43 pm

BSNL Karnataka is using the CDR billing system for over an year now…

  • Anil February 27, 2012 1:16 pm

CDR system has been in place in bsnl kalyan area since the last two years. No real use. BSNL has been gradually loosing customers since many broadband competitors exist in kalyan who offer 512kbps unlimited for as less as 300 rupees/month. Plus its prepaid so you can skip a few months without broadband but the connection will still remain active for future use.

  • Gaurav February 27, 2012 11:45 am

Waiting for the system to be online in Pune. Hope it does not have the same effect as it happened in Chennai and Kolkata. Keeping fingers crossed. If it works well then its a milestone achievement for BSNL and BSNL customers
