BSNL Revises Prepaid and Postpaid 2G GPRS Packs [Rs.98 and Rs.89]

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has revised it GPRS/2G Mobile Internet offerings and reduced 2G Data usage under its Prepaid and Postpaid GPRS Pack of Rs.98 and Rs.89.

From 1st October, 2012, BSNL Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers using 2G GPRS Packs of Rs.98 and Rs.89 will get 1250 MB free data usage instead of 2GB or 3GB. BSNL will also launching new 2 GB GPRS Plan/Pack for Rs.111  & Rs.125 for Postpaid and Prepaid subscribers respectively. The Free Data usage can be used as ‘Home and Roam’ across India.

Monthly Rental (Postpaid) MRP of STV (Prepaid) Free Data Usage Validity
Rs.89 Rs.98 Existing – 2GB Revised – 1250MB 30 Days
Rs.111 (New) Rs.125 (New) - 2000MB 30 Days
Note: Circles can suitably adjust the MRP in the price band up to Rs.5 (+/-) of above price considering the local market condition and technical feasibility.

The mobile boom of the past decade is primarily attributed to the sharp and continuous fall in call rates and operating margins so few months back, all leading private operators revised their call rates and GPRS Packs by offering 1GB for Rs.98.

Finally it seems that BSNL also joined the league and reduced the FREE 2G Data usage in its postpaid and prepaid packs of Rs.98 and Rs.89. The revised and new 2G GPRS/EDGE Packs (Postpaid/Prepaid) will be available in all telecom circles working effect from 1st October 2012.

Radiation is depends on signal. whatever u r handset using it is high or low range handset it will effect to your health( if u r using other networks that must be true, see you will get the health problem definitely for sure), if you got to remote or village areas you have to BSNL if it sucks or whatever you have to use it there is no alternative for you. BSNL is backbone of Telecome network. Mind it.@ techfrick

  • Anjan October 5, 2012 2:55 am

Airtel 98 1GB ( Getting Same Speed as BSNL)
Aircel 98 Unlimited (But What about the Signal)
    Vodafone 98
Idea 98 1GB ( Same here too Bad Signal)
Docomo 95 2GB( But Bad speed Compare to Bsnl)

All networks packs are Same. I dont know why people are blaming BSNL. If you go to rural areas or remote areas you have too use BSNL there is no option for you people. There you can shift to another operator.
If Private operators increasing the price means everyone will buy their packs. BSNL is increasing means everyone started Blaming BSNL.
” Don’t Comment here without using BSNL” If you dont like BSNL, dont use BSNL in rural areas, remote areas and in home landline too, remove all those things then comment here.

    BSNL Advantages:
    1 Full Roaming Coverage
2 Gprs Roaming Free( If you use any pack)
3 SMS Roaming Free( If you use any pack)
4 Roaming Free plan ( No network is offering this plan)

If you are not using bsnl Go to Hell. Proud to be BSNl
finally BSNL is backbone of Telecom Network. Mind it.

    • S.Sudhakar January 25, 2013 1:18 am

I am talking about Tamilnadu in 2013 :

Till now no operator (except) has announced that outgoing call and GPRS will be charged at base rates during the 5 festival days. The same existed since the beginning of mobile era. But BSNL is charging base tariff for all 3 types of transactions (call, SMS and GPRS) during the five festival days. Where will you go and keep your face in this regard?. You are simply praising BSNL blindly. BSNL is only good in rural and remote areas but it is that much opposite in terms of customer care and problem rectification.

I agree that I use BSNL broadband and face only less than 50 hours of downtime in a year. But if problem comes, no one will care to rectify. I have to call several persons (JE, DE, SDO, SDE, bla bla bla etc) to register the complaint and rectify. This makes me think worse of BSNL.

Even if private operators charge base tariff for all transactions during the 5 festival days, BSNL cannot erase its image of ‘charging base tariff during those festival days well before than provate operators’.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on 28th september-2012 Friday said the mobile phone operators must move from voice-based revenue model and customers should gradually be charged only for data services and not for making calls.

“At the moment, revenue of industry depends on voice, it is time that the industry decides to move in a direction where revenues come from data and not from voice,” Sibal said while speaking at CII broadband summit.

He said the operators need to change their mindset by moving away from voice services to data.

“The mindset of industry must change. So far the telecom sector has been thinking in terms of earning revenues from voice connectivity (phone calls). If you ask me, and I hope secretary (telecom) agrees with me, that infact there should be no charge on voice,” Sibal added.

I fully agree…its pathetic…west bengal bsnl sim is unable to call while roaming in punjab, punjab bsnl sim is unable to call while in tamilnadu…and most of the times, the calls get frequently disconnected….cant be used for calling customer care or call taxi as the call gets disconnected while you are still in queue…

even bsnl sucks roaming in Bangalore.. I was unable to make calls in one try, & very worst voice clarity even in full signal.. Sometimes call gets connected but no sound..

Changing 3g mode by using 2g gprs pack is legal or illegal ?

Don’t worry. It is legal… Actually an operator can’t stop anyone from using 3G network though they can restrict access by either limiting speed or de-activating 2G pack when someone activates 3G pack.
Look, BSNL/Idea/Airtel does allow 3G network access for 2G users but they restrict the speed a user can get. In some circles, BSNL has capped it to 256Kbps=32KBps and in others it is 128Kbps. So you can get at least that much speed on consistent basis via 3G network. On 2G network i.e GPRS/EDGE you can’t get constant speed. It does fluctuates. Similarly Idea allows their 2G pack customers to access 3G network by restricting speed to 128Kbps=16KBps. Similarly Airtel caps to 80Kbps=10KBps only, Aircel=128Kbps/16KBps, Reliance= 128Kbps=16KBps.
Tata Docomo and Vodafone don’t allow it. Whenever you activate 2G pack you can’t access 3G network and if you activate zero rental 3G pack or Pay as you go pack, it de-activates your 2G pack i.e your 2G data will be lost.
But if there is a loophole in the network or operators don’t cap it, user can enjoy 3G speed. So, Data is data. Data don’t know whether I’m 2G or 3G. It’s only the algorithm used at operators’ end which differentiates between the two.

will u make further more clear ? At the operators end will they identify tat we making 2g to 3g ? Is it a kind of hacking ? Any kind of consequences like penalty or service disconnection is there ?
    Thanks in advance !

But it seems, BSNL will withdraw this 2G Combo Plan from 1st Oct.

Gprs speed is very poor in Bsnl network, especially in rural areas. While all other operators are using 2.75G (also called as EDGE network) in our area, BSNL is stiil relying on 2.5G network(in which we can see “[G]” symbol in our mobile above signal bars when we connect to the internet) and its transfer rate tops out at 3KBps or 4KBps. This may not be a problem in metro areas(bcoz there wilbe 3g or edge network), but it could be a problem in rural areas. However Bsnl provide downloading speed of 30KBps if we set our mobile to UMTS/3G mode in 2G gprs plan if there is 3G signal.

I too get G written which very very slow and when I switch the mode from gsm to wcdma then I get max speed 20KBps not 30KBps or 32KBps (256Kbps) what should I do?

    1) this only shows they have more bread and butter (customers) in 2g.
    2) reduced speeds also means they want you to use 3g.
    3) just a month ago there was solid news that they are reducing the prices by half Rs48 for 2gb). immediately private operators launched packs in such denomination and perhaps BSNL was made to holdback launch of this pack. Now the new announcement only shows they are under the control of private operators.

Nw increse their cost. Last year they maked 2000cr loss as a result jst revised 2g pack 2gb to 3gb. Nd nw 1.25gb. Ok lets see who r the boss. Good move by bsnl.. :)
earlier data roaming was not there in 2g pack
and if you recharged 3g pack then your plan used to change to per minutes plan while in roaming. Atleast this move wont affect call rates in roaming.

And earlier Rs 98 used to give 2GB in orissa now for 125 if they are giving 2GB home and roam data then its certainly a good move :-)

    I welcome it :)

very bad move from bsnl. It will force the subscribers to leave bsnl 2g. if anyone leaves (i myself will leave), its obvious that he/she will subscribe to any private 3G network as they have better quality of service in terms of downloading speed.so, bye bye bsnl..

    Very bad news.
@telecom talk , please share current condition of videocon Gsm in haryana.

I’m unable to recharge any STV now… But there is no hike in price till now.
I’m using STV 96 rs. For unlimited gprs.

And where can I recharge after expiration of this pack.. There is no retailer currently giving recharge services for videocon.
