India’s leading telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come up with an offer, exclusively for its CDMA data card users if they are interested to move to GSM/3G.
In view of diversion of EVDO BTSs/Kits from Andra Pradesh, Punjab and Chennai telecom circles BSNL is decided to offer migratory offer for EVDO data card users.
BSNL will provide 3.6Mbps USB GSM/3G data card to customers free of cost, if the EVDO data card is surrendered to BSNL. Not only that these customers will get 10GB 3G data plan for only Rs 750 as monthly rental for 6 months. After 6 months users can opt for any postpaid plans.

BSNL’s decision to shutdown EVDO services only did good to me! My EVDO got downgraded to CDMA 1x a week ago in Hyderabad. A connection where I used to get > 2 Mbps speed started giving only 0.2 Mbps! Without any second thought I got it disconnected immediately.
My visit to BSNL office revealed more about the above offer – you will have to deposit ?1000 towards refundable deposit to avail it.
Being in Hyderabad I had the inherent advantage of choosing Beam Fiber who offer next generation optical fiber broadband. I went with B-Max 660 which offers 3 Mbps upto 20 GB, beyond that 786 kbps, all at ?660/month. If you opt for 6-month payment free installation. All you need to do is plug in the cable and log in to beam portal to surf internet, no modem/router necessary! This is in stark contrast to all major ISPs in India which require complicated router/modem setup demanding help from their staff. You will be on your own on this if you are using elite operating systems like Linux! By making this switch I will be saving nearly ?200/month.

I would like to purchase a BSNL CDMA datacard for my SAMSUNG ACE(Android) mobile.
Anybody may give their suggestions regarding this.

Dont waste your time and money. Samsung Ace GSM+CDMA is worst handset. Go for Samsung Galaxy Y CDMA, but you can not run BSNL CDMA card for EVDO service in that hanset even it is EVDO Rev A handset.

3g Prepaid Sims in Android mobiles (voice and data) are convenient compared to Data only modems.
Our operators must have realised that customers may have ‘post-paid-phobia’ and ‘prepaid-mania.’

I will not accept and move to 3G even if free modem is offered. EVDO is steadier albeit quite slow compared to what it was at the time of its introduction. And EVDO is much cheaper and it offers true unlimited usage without any FUP.
I will only move out of EVDO when compelled to do that, i.e. when the EVDO service is withdrawn.

When It will come in Maharashtra?

EVDO now being outdated..BSNL is making a good move by redirecting Outdated technologies to rural areas(As they also enjoy some CDMA services in the places where they are hard to find GPRS signals), and upgrading new services in cities.instead of scrapping the old equipment redirection idea is good

Great info Mr. Rudra. I always think BSNL has always under utilized its potential and it could have trapped a big market. But ended up in a mess always coming up with new schemes here and there, most getting unnoticed ever. And basic issues never addressed.Reason for being a laggard, reason being a badly managed PSU

BSNL is closing lots of towers and this has been going on for months. They are almost bankrupt and needs cash to keep mobile and broadband networks running. They shut down EVDO in my city months back without any information and also some of the cdma 1x towers too.
Dont see any benefit in above scheme. The avg speed of EVDO I got was 150+ Kbps, cost was 650+ tax/month. 3g is way expensive in comparison.

As far as I know BSNL will not surrender CDMA. Only thing is that for time being CDMA service is being redirected to North East to see how much customers are interested there. If the number is lot then BSNL will introduce CDMA there also as well as will bring back CDMA in exixting circles also. BSNL also has started to upgrade 3G BTS with GPON technolgy in Kolkata which will increase 3G speed to 10Mbps.

I came to know through BSNL officials, they are going to launch 3G in this month or from starting March 2013 in Punjab. They are testing 3G configured BTS with new hardware and removing unused WiMAX hardware.

I don’t know what bsnl has in its mind but From last 25 days data speed of bsnl cdma 1x is reduce to 55kbps.it was 144kbps before.

karan February 13, 2013 at 6:04 pm

raju February 13, 2013 at 12:34 pm
Speed change from 3.1 to 3.6Mbps only…no one will be interested.CDMA better than GSM for data transmission. Is bsnl going to surrender its cdma spectrum?
