Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launches WiMAX the wireless broadband service in Goa. The wireless broadband initiative would spread the expansion of broadband connections in the country according to a statement issued by the BSNL. For this launch the state-owned telecommunications company has collaborated with SOMA Networks provider of WiMAX solutions. Broadband connectivity will enable users to access high-speed always-on Internet service in homes and offices.What is special about this wireless service is that it can reach even remote places since it doesn’t require wired infrastructure.
The new BSNL WIMAX the Wireless Broadband Service offers a range of service plans based on bandwidth rates, providing speeds from 256 kbps to 2 Mbps.
Residential-Home plans include two email addresses and 5 MB of storage while Business plans include up to four email addresses and 5 MB of storage. For more information regarding tariff and Network of Wimax, BSNL subscribers can call 18002336600.Over the next couple of months,consumers could expect to see a range of interactive services to be introduced,which will include online shopping banking and bill payment and new modes of communication using voice and video chats.
"We have partnered with US-based Soma Networks Inc for supply of vital equipment required to provide seamless broadband service to the customers," said Chandra Prakash, chief general manager, Maharashtra-Goa Telecom Circle. He added that the BSNL has inked an agreement with Soma Networks for such a facility in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat also. The goal is to deliver affordable and high quality service to enterprise and urban customers and also provide access to low cost education and healthcare services through e-governance, Prakash said.
For the youth segment there will be services such as social networking sharing of videos music and photos and edutainment.The service will be available to users after paying a one-time installation fee of Rs 750. WiMAX Coverage area in state of Goa, Mandrem, Colvale, Siolim, Anjuna, Tivim, Mapusa, Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Pilerne, Porvorim, Panaji, Dona Paula, Corlim, Kundaim, Vasco, Verna, Cuncolim, Chinchinim, Navelim, Mandopa, Margao, Mobor, Varca, Majorda and Colva. Benaulim will be covered under the Colva tower.In the second phase, tentatively scheduled for early next year, Bicholim, Valpoi, Sanquelim, Sanguem and Quepem will be covered. Between June 29 and July 13 all walk-in customers at a coffee chain will be allowed 30 minutes of free internet usage with an order value over Rs 199. This is available in Mapusa, Panaji, Candolim, Bambolim, Miramar and Margao.
BSNL has currently installed 25 Base Transceiver Stations (towers) for WiMAX service through out the Goa, which will provide signals to the wireless broadband service. With the customers like Sesa Goa already on their list, the BSNL expects whoopping response for this service, which according to them, will change the speed in which people browse few Months back India's first WiMAX service was launched by BSNL in the state of Gujarat .
