Exclusive : BSNL Launches Voice SMS Service for 2G and 3G GSM Subscribers

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers today announced the launch of Voice SMS service for its 2G and 3G GSM customers across all circles for a fixed price for 75 paisa.

Fun and easy to use, this new service enables BSNL subscribers to send Voice SMS messages to each other in their own voice, rather than by typing. Voice SMS is an enhanced mode of communication enriched with the sender’s voice, language and emotions, and offers complete flexibility in retrievals.

The Voice SMS service on BSNL Mobile will available to both prepaid and postpaid (2G and 3G) users from 10th September,2013 at uniform rate of Rs.0.75 for sending, replying, forwarding and SMS to any Local, STD mobile number while in Home network and National Roaming.

How to Use BSNL Voice SMS Service :

  • Does not require any special handsets, or handset settings
  • BSNL Postpaid and Prepaid subscribers have to dial* and the mobile number of the person for sending the message.
  • If the recipient is a BSNL subscriber, he will receive a text SMS notification and can dial *0* to hear the Voice SMS.
  • Old Voice SMS can be retrieved by dialing *1*.
  • Users can replying, forwarding, saving or deleting the Voice SMS messages.
  • Subscribers not on the BSNL network will get a text SMS notification with an embedded Direct Listen number.

In India, Bharti Airtel was the first Pan India mobile service provider who introduced Voice SMS Service on mobile in 2008 followed by Vodafone and since last 4-5 years  it is available with all leading mobile service providers including PSU MTNL .

    BSNL already had voice message service earlier (atleast in CTD/WB region). I remember I used to send voice messages to surprise my friends in the year 2007. As far as I remember, no other operator launched voice message at that time. At that time you would have to dial a voice message center number and then dial the number to which you want to send voice sms and then record your message followed by #. You could even schedule the date/time of the message to be delivered. The recipient would get an incoming call from the sender and when received, would hear the message.

    I used to schedule messages and prank friends with it.

    BSNL…. prepaid customer care (MH) 1503 not working since month. I am having pyari jodi plan which offers daily free 30 mins on my landline no. . But sometimes money gets deducted from my main account balance even though i ve not utilized 30 mins. of the day. (not coz of black out days) This is regular now… to whom we should complain? they ve already stopped CC no. now. Should we complain to TRAI?
    Govt. company … stay away!

      Any one can complain to TRAI, So if you are not satisfied with your operator than use MNP or complaint to TRAI.

        For your update ,

        One of the big controversial issue is TRAI don’t intervention individual complaints directly you may send to appellate authority , but don’t expect a great support ,As per TRAI consumer protection regulation draft dated 30.07.2013 Press release no 55/2013 where stated appellate authority to be communicated via Complaints center but in real it’s not accessible even they refuse to provide any details of the same so question arise how a general subscriber’s problem would be solve on the ,even if A.A failed to resolve the matter satisfactorily with in prescribe time (7 days) no other escalation process stated by TRAI …..

        Till date no separate segment introduced to save subscriber’s harassment on MNP related issue ,even after a long no service provider yet been penalised for delay to complete Porting request (4 days ) but in real it takes 7-10 even more .recently norms revised porting to be done 24 hrs which yet to be implement soon let see

        please make me correct if am wrong

    BSNL has done a good job. Its a PSU Govt undertaking. So like Govt of India, its trying to prove how backward runner it is. As Our NAL developed Saras aircraft in 2004. when Europe has already developed Airbus A 380 a 800 seater…we are in a 15 passenger seater aircraft. similarly our ISRO is planning to launch a manned mission to Moon in 2020. The US has landed there in 1969. so Our ISRO is exactly 50 years backward than US. and we are the people proving this to the whole world analytically…Thus BSNL is taking the same way….move on.

    Aircel introduced voice SMS services, way back in 2006. This was a free service for first few months and I’ve used this service for many many months.

    Well atleast they have launced it although its late but its there thats the main thing.
    Lately I have had a very bad experience with airtel 2g internet. Very poor quality here in Kolkata. Comparatively Vodafone is better. I use both but would have been happier if airtel improved their services.

        The Speeds are not so good. No problems with connectivity. And sometimes even messages on Whatsapp And Wechat dont get delivered even with full network. And the speed is ok but could have been better. Instead Vodafone is better with constant speed in my area. Plus the Voice also breaks sometimes in Airtel. Not on Vodafone. Airtel is better than aircel and TD but still not upto the mark with Vodafone being of the same price.

    i am very fade up with BSNL, No customer care from last so many months, some time i get network inside home and some time not even one bar. what to do,i think port out is only solution.

    lol. First they shown stupidity by launching unified data packs which has affected 90% of their 2G users as 3G is not present at most places and now this. Atleast they have tried unified pricing in Southern states only where they have somewhat good 3G coverage. But in North and other area coverage is as low as 5-10%. Cities are not fully covered under 3G here. No town also… forget about a village.

    How to activate Call Conference in BSNL Prepaid?

    I am using Unlimited Free OnNet Calls but cant talk to 2 or more users simultaneously. Cc is dumb as usual.

      During call go to options and then select merge calls or conference or dial another number and then go to options and there you will find whether conference call or merge call….in this way u can talk to many peoples at once.

    Outdated concept in the wake of voice note feature available with IM apps like whatsapp and wechat, its like launching audio cassettes in the era of smartphones with built in MP3 players.

      @ ESMAIL – yes AIRTEL had this service almost 3 years ago and it is a big flop, as no one uses VOICE SMS – as one can call at 0.30p / min why would anyone (in their right frame of mind) pay Rs 0.75p/min…. and the other person the same to reply to it?

        We can’t call this service completely useless. This can be used as an alternate for voice mail. If my friend is not reachable, and if I want to convey him something important, which can better expressed though voice & not words, then I can use this !!

            these stupid people launching out dated services. i don’t know how it will helpful. again its complicated for use. if we are calling to someone and he is not reachable then these stupids asking us to disconnect the call add star(*) before number (again if we don’t remember his number then its more complicated) and than call and leave the message after the beep. the voice message will be informed to the concern via sms (again there is no assurance that the sms will delivered, it happens sometimes when someones not switching on his phone in 24hrs).

            Apple iPhone is providing visual voice mail service, if we call someone and he is not reachable than your call will automatically forwarded to their voice-mail box. there is separate inbox like sms on iPhone where user (receiver) can view that message and read/reply/delete it as per his convenient. but as of now there is no operator supports this VVM service in India. its pathetic.

            I agree Airtel is on top to introduced any new VAS services, even most of the services started by Airtel 1st. but in VVM they are far behind…
