I am using bsnl broadband for last 4 years. They have the worst plans comparing to other ISPs of the city. Users pay more to get less in BSNL. For night unlimited plans — there night starts from 2 p.m till 8 a.m. Which is developed to cheat subscribers. So please keep safe distance from bsnl.

When service providers mention their speeds it’s in Bits Per Second. NOT BYTES PER SECOND! When they say 256 kbps it means 256 kiloBITS per second, NOT 256 kilobytes per second. To convert kilobits/s (speed they mention) to kilobytes/s (speed your usual computer programs says you’re downloading) DIVIDE kiloBITS/s by 8. 256 kiloBITS/s becomes 32 kiloBYTES/s. 512 kbit/s becomes 64 kbytes/s. 1 mbit/s becomes 128 kbytes/s.
To download at 256 kiloBYTES per second you need an advertised 2 megaBITS per second connection. To download at 2 megaBYTES per second you need an advertised 16 megaBITS per second connection. That’s the maths. Do you know why they do this? Because bigger numbers sound better to customers. And clearly, many customers like sachu and rajeev here actually think they are giving out speeds in bytes per second and purchase their plans with all the wrong ideas.
And what prakash golwalkar said is wrong. The surfing speed of your browser which STREAMS online videos is limited by your ISP. So if they said you’ll get 256 kilobits / sec then nothing EVER will make you stream at 256 kilobits / s. You’ll always stream at 32 kilobytes / sec. Some videos appear faster because the video’s bitrate is low. A video of bitrate of 32 kbytes/s will load 32 kbyte of video in 1 second and then buffer if the rest is not loaded by then due to bandwidth limitations.
prakash golwalkar August 1, 2012 at 6:05 pm
no. u all are fools actually. they are giving 256 kbps buffering speed and downloading speed is around 25 to 30 kbps , its goes like this idiots
Tushar June 29, 2012 at 10:47 pm
NO they are not faking, actually we are not looking the details carefully, they are saying the speed is 256 Kbps , note the small ‘b’ it is used for bits not bytes , so when you convert it to KBps that is kilo bytes it comes out to be 32 Kbps, which is around the speed as reported by the people. Actually all telecom services give their plan speed in bits only, try it, always look at the ‘b’, for eg Mbps, Kbps .LOL
kik June 10, 2012 at 7:19 am
average speed is 64 kbps
rajeev June 1, 2012 at 7:28 pm
absoultly correct no 256 kbps speed only 25 or 50 kbps speed its all fake by bsnl
sachu May 31, 2012 at 8:51 pm
its too slow.. just 25kbps and not 256kbps…. its cheating like central govt do
Abhik March 17, 2012 at 8:45 am

braj kishor mahto February 24, 2012 at 7:44 pm
I HAVE A 625 HOME COMBO UL PLAN BROADBAND CONNECTION.
I WANT TO SAY YOU GUYS DO NOT RELY ON THEIR FAKE ADDS IT IS COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC.
I AM DOWNLOADING AT A WORST SPEED OF 25 KBPS AGAINST PAYING THE BILL FOR 256 KBPS.
YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE YOURSELF.
Rup Majumder December 30, 2011 at 11:27 pm
what BSNL offers are the bandwith of broadband internet. The actual speed is always lesser than that. approx. 1/8 of offered bandwidth. so with 2 MBPS plan i get 256 kbps of download speed.so 2*1024 kbps/8 = 256 kbps. So don’t get fooled by their offer. They are right.
Piyush September 29, 2011 at 2:24 pm
Hie,
My Internet Speed Is 30kbps But my Internet Plan Is 625 par Month ulimited
deepak kumar August 10, 2011 at 2:02 pm

anbarasu August 6, 2011 at 8:36 am
i have get the ul625 plan with 256kbps but i can get only 100mbps so how can get the full speed of 256kbps please help me and give some tips
A K Sen July 26, 2011 at 6:15 pm
It is a good plan but local telephone call charges @ Rs.1/- is high ( for 61 secs , we are charged for 2 calls ) and difficult to monitor. BSNL should introduce facility in it’s website to check usage of local calls any time through out the month .

IS THE OFFER VALID FOR WEST BENGAL TELECOM CIRCLE ???
Adi July 4, 2010 at 4:00 pm
This Plan was being offered in Gujarat, Andhra and Punjab since May but not in Kolkata. It’s a rip off nonetheless as for 125 more per month you get double the bandwidth with the same benefits.
Starpco July 4, 2010 at 3:59 pm
@Emad
kya bsnl wll cdma service up (VARANASI)mein available hai.
Starpco July 4, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Emad July 4, 2010 at 3:31 pm
bsnl is also providing 128 kbps unlimited internet on cdma WLL at Rs.250 per month than why not unlimited 56kbps internet at Rs.100 on landline?
Emad July 4, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Avishek July 4, 2010 at 3:19 pm
finally calcutta telephones woke up.. why this plan is circle specific ? it should be pan india.
mekalwin T July 4, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Udayan is smart so he called up and find out the way and also going to take the plan. but you are not so smart yaar
Agnivo July 4, 2010 at 2:55 pm

I also get 20% off on rental as govt. employee..(-:

TATA DOCOMO IS THE MOST WORST SERVICE PROVIDER ALWAYS IT’S PROBLEMS ARE RELATED WITH SIGNAL STRENGTH, BILLING, CHARGES, INTERNET SPEED, CUSTOMER SERVICE
mekalwin T July 4, 2010 at 2:28 pm
@ARJUN.C Its BSNL news not Airtel
ARJUN.C July 4, 2010 at 2:22 pm
AIRTEL IS THE MOST WORST SERVICE PROVIDER ALWAYS IT’S PROBLEMS ARE RELATED WITH SIGNAL STRENGTH, BILLING, CHARGES, INTERNET SPEED, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Agnivo July 4, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Anyone tried migrating over the toll free number yet? I mean does it work or they simply ask you to submit a migration form and blah blah?
Firstonnet July 4, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Need to follow Pitroda’s report, then v vil find out more improved, developed BSNL than any othr total telecom operators in d world.
mekalwin T July 4, 2010 at 1:22 pm
very good plan but not best as MTNL users enjoying in Mumbai.. however It is circle specific plan and also available in BSNL Gujarat, AP, Punjab and Haryana circle from last one year and now Kolkata is added . good for kolkata
Jitendra July 4, 2010 at 1:15 pm
MTNL is much better than BSNL Broadband in offers & in services too. BSNL possible to offer this plan with 2mbps speed but they need to follow Pitroda’s report. If they implement it then BSNL will become rank one in total telecommunication services in the world.
Karthik Kumar July 4, 2010 at 11:25 am
Very good plan…should be introduced across india…
manmeet singh July 4, 2010 at 11:21 am
sir this plan is also intro to all telecom circles to provide good internet services by BSNL
Nilesh Patel July 4, 2010 at 11:19 am
Not worth it
Keshav Jha July 4, 2010 at 11:18 am
Speed should be atleast 384 kbps.
ARJUN.C July 4, 2010 at 11:14 am
1 THING IS SURE THAT AIRCEL IS GIVING IT’S BEST COVERAGE AND STRONGEST SIGNALS IN 13 TELECOM CIRCLES AND REMAINING 6 CIRCLES IT IS TOO BAD.THEY WILL RECOVER IT SOON.
ARJUN.C July 4, 2010 at 11:04 am
BSNL IS THE BEST TELECOM OPERATOR IN INDIA HOWEVER BSNL HAS WORST CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, ONLY GSM (GPRS) TOWERS ARE THERE, AND I THINK FIRST THEY HAVE TO UPGRADE THEIR NETWORK FROM GPRS TO EDGE AND MUST HAVE TO START 3G UMTS, HSDPA. SUCH THAT IT WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL
