Our View : BSNL’s new Roaming plans or Free Incoming Plans at Rs.405 and Rs.705 are little over priced and not attractive compare to recently launched National Roaming Plans by its competitors/operators  like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, and Reliance Communications  (Rcom).  Drop comments !

Also its given 4500 sec free offnet and 4500 seconds free on net. Are these calls valid only if i call to any punjab number or outside punjab also???
please suggest if there is any better plan…thanks in advance..

    • Sanjay Bafna October 10, 2013 7:23 pm

I think with plan voucher 199 all freebies are for 30 days and applicable with in Home Network. Incoming Calls will be free in BSNL network area while roaming. No other STV can be clubbed with this plan to reduce O/G tariff.

BSNL has two more plans for Roaming with Free Incoming Calls for Rs.5(one day) and Rs.67 (30 Days).

      • Kaushik Roy October 10, 2013 8:16 pm

No freebies are applicable in roaming also
last year I was in Bangalore with this RC 199 plan and the on-net and off-net free seconds are deducted from any outgoing calls made from roaming

      • Unnikrishnan October 10, 2013 9:04 pm

This roam free plan of BSNL is a waste. if we use any other rate cutter STV (for Voice), the roam free charging and that rate cutter can not co-exist. the last recharge wil remain and we lose money of the first rate cutter STV irrespective of the remaining number of days
so bsnl user be ware of this hidden condition

  • Sanjay Rai September 10, 2013 10:26 am

First, feeling great to be here at Telecom Talk after a long absence. And again back to observe the tariff dynamics of different players.

Now the main question, if Sanjay ji or some person from BSNL can inform…

“Has Plan 705 RTP FR 705 been implemented? I doubt so. I tried yesterday with all my intensity and vigor to recharge through BSNL online recharge portal and even third party vendors but all in vain. I don’t understand why is there a lack of synchronization in PSUs. It is better not to launch a plan and announce it publicly if the same can’t be made available through any channels.

Recharge your BSNL mobile no after registration. Inside you will Roam Free_199 under PLAN VOUCHER as well under VALIDITY EXTENSION.
      portal.bsnl.in/rc/aspxfiles/login.aspx

Again, without registration you cannot recharge from BSNL portal.

    • Rishabh July 27, 2013 5:47 pm

I also recharged myine from easymobilerecharge.com and it didn’t work. Loss of money too

Last time i recharged from bsnl portal , it had worked.

      • S.Sudhakar July 29, 2013 10:11 pm

        Try recharging from ezrecharge.in/index.php

Choose the last option ‘BSNL special’ in the service provider list.

They will charge you Rs.8 extra for Rs.199 (Total Rs.207).

        Try and see.

  • cva July 16, 2013 6:16 pm

  • Arun Dev July 11, 2013 12:45 pm

Guys, BSNL introduced these plans (first recharges) on 4-7-2013.. ..But on 9-7-2013 BSNL introduced two more STVs as below…..
    Rs 5/- – 1 day – During roaming: Free incoming call & 1.5p/sec tariff.. .
    Rs 69/- – 30 days – During roaming: Free incoming call & 1.5p/sec tariff.. .

    Now let’s compare b/w other operators…..

  • Akhilesh July 11, 2013 11:36 am

BSNL launches two postpaid roaming plan , plan-149 (per min pulse) and plan-145 (per sec pulse) both with free 100 mins any-net ( Local+std) and 100 sms (any-net) free for one month…………call charges including roaming – LOCAL any net 1.00/min (plan-149) and 1.15p/s (plan-145), STD any net-1.5/min(plan-149) and 1.2p/s(plan-145)…incoming for Plan-149 is free and for Plan -145 is flat 1.2p/s………..

  • almnisar July 11, 2013 11:29 am

Minutes plan is thoroughly disappointing.all private operators have seconds plan.

  • S.Sudhakar July 11, 2013 11:08 am

BSNL is the only operator in India which gives the benefit of using any SMS pack (paid or free) in national roaming*.

    * means – I think SMS pack and data packs will apply in MTNL network also.

I agree that the incoming free packs are costly. BSNL must introduce short duration packs also. But BSNL has wide coverage in remote areas also. So I think these packs are worth the amount (but it should be reduced) compared the incoming free (cheating) pack in all private operators which give only on net incoming free benefit. BSNL is also charging in MTNL network (except in Rs. 705 pack). But its coverage is good compared to private operators.

When roaming incoming and outgoing was Rs.0.01 per second in docomo, I went to karnataka. The docomo coverage was worst. It logged into aircel always. I manually selected docomo and changed to auto mode.
I know that Rs.0.01 per second is applicable only in on net roaming.
After some time, I made 3 minute STD outgoing call and I was charged Rs.4.50 per min instead of Rs.1.80 !!!. Then only I saw that it logged into aircel network !!!.

My opinion about aircel (Tamilnadu) / to aircel :
What is the use of one nation plan if you have shutdown your network in kerala, karnataka and other circles?. Will you provide free incoming in Vodafone or in Idea network?. Tell me.

The same applies for docomo also. Your network is at shameless level and what is the use of providing incoming free / reduced rate pack?. Damn it.

    To TRAI :
Please make a rule that ‘ALL INCOMING FREE / REDUCED RATE, GPRS, 3G, SMS (if any) PACKS MUST WORK IN OFF NET ROAMING NETWORK ALSO’.

    • SS July 12, 2013 12:33 pm

Only data plans of BSNL work on MTNL network and else nothing.

FYI- My airtel 3G data plan( delhi ncr) worked fine on Idea’s 3G network in UP EAST. :)

    • thanesh November 2, 2013 2:13 pm

are you sure about that stv rate cutter packs will be applicabl on RTP-FR(Roam )_705 while in MTNL (DELHI /MUMBAI )?

  • Vivek July 11, 2013 9:10 am

and what are the updates for postpaid users for free roaming facility???? kindly update ASAP.

    • vishwanath July 11, 2013 11:27 am

2 postpaid plans also launched by bsnl.

  • DEBABRATA DUTTA July 11, 2013 1:48 am

I think BSNL gonna mad….. They must introduce daily national roaming plan for users like Vodafone or Airtel….If someone go roam for 5-7 days he also have to pay 405/199/705 Rs for 5-7 days………..what is this??????????????? but for roamers like me , for 5-6 days the daily rental plan is just awesome…….BSNL I am always with you but kindly launch daily rental plan for roamers………
oooooffffff deepika……..u know only for u I am still with BSNL……… boddo valo laage tomai go………

  • RAJ July 10, 2013 10:23 pm

IF ROAMING IS NOT FREE THEN HOW THE TELECOM OPERATORS WERE ALLOWED TO HIKE TARIFF FOR VOICE SMS AND DATA BY UP TO 100% .

ON WHAT GROUNDS WAS THE NEED TO HIKE TARIFF IF RAOMING IS STILL PAID ?

  • S.Sudhakar July 10, 2013 8:50 pm

Are the free benefits (calls, SMS and data) available during national roaming also?.

    • AVIJIT BANERJEE July 10, 2013 10:10 pm

There is no freebies regarding SMS and Data from roaming. If you are a Cell One customer then confirm with BSNL cust care.
The new roaming STVs are a bad move from BSNL, a national footprint telecom operator.

Read my post in this topic (in the main segment).

  • AVIJIT BANERJEE July 10, 2013 8:33 pm

Recent launched two STV/Plan Voucher by BSNL to make the roaming inc calls free is highly priced and does not look attractive from any two angle. I am fully agreed with Telecom opinion.

    a) The incoming calls in BSNL/MTNL networks have not been made free in Rs. 405/- STV.

    b) The outgoing calls tariffs in BSNL/MTNL networks in both STVs Rs. 405/- & Rs. 705/- are high in comparison to other Pvt operators tariffs. Either Per mins(Loc/Std or Roaming outgoing calls) tariff should be reduced or switched to PPS plan(Loc/Std/Roaming outgoing calls), then only the Plans would look attractive to drive customers.

  • Kanaga Deepan N July 10, 2013 8:02 pm

Relax friends… BSNL is like GOD… Please stop complaining…

Yes, God is available everywhere, but he is useless. Similarly BSNL (2G) network is available everywhere, but all routes will be busy or there will be connection error or irritating voice quality…

The 705Rs plan will be good, if all (home and Roam incl in MTNL) calls are 60p onnet and 80p offnet + FREE Incoming.

  • SS July 10, 2013 7:00 pm

Whatever you say, i am having a good experience with AVOID but not with BSNL (which earlier was.)-

My airtel delhi account was wrongly deducted for GPRS charges even though my plan was active, still good fellows, re-credited my account on complaint but i was wrongly charged 6 times in BSNL for – Christian Devotional Pack, Xplore pack (dunno what is it!) (activated wrongly 4-5 times), Caller tunes (with a ridiculous song) but idiot CC of BSNL not even registered my complaints.

When i was in UP east, my airtel delhi 3G pack worked awesome on seamless IDEA 3G network as assured by customer care.

That makes sense why delhi has huge Airtel and Vodafone customer base!

  • Kingston July 10, 2013 6:44 pm

In Chennai, BSNL hiked call rates in STV 44. Now local calls to other network is 1.2p/2sec. Earlier it was 1p/2sec

  • Kingston July 10, 2013 6:38 pm

In Chennai, BSNL now giving 2500 offnet sms in RC 72 with 30 days validity. Earlier it was 1000 only. Also you can use this sms while in roaming.

  • Kingston July 10, 2013 6:33 pm

If BSNL give 50paise roaming call rate (off net) then this RC405 roaming voucher is valuable one otherwise it won’t attract anyone.

  • saroj July 10, 2013 5:30 pm

i think AVOID are with indian people.but not bsnl.why they are launching bakwas plans.for the same reason no one is likining bsnl.bsnl network is always there but root is always busy.network is busy.i am using bsnl.i am now thinking to port to airtel or vodafone postpaid.who are the hell deciding the marketing structure.a simple business man knows if i will give low rate than other then more business i would get.but in bsnl…

  • Mangal July 10, 2013 4:13 pm

But sir BSNL website is saying the in MTNL areas I/C will be charged Rs. 0.75/min. in all plans even in case of plan 705.Please clarify and update accordingly. Thanks

  • Sathish, Gobichettipalayam. July 10, 2013 3:48 pm

This is one of the brand new wrong strategies from BSNL.

I don’t know, what BSNL corporate team thinking in their mind!

I think behind this new plan, DoT’s and private operator’s concerns may be there.

It plan shows BSNL is too distant from middle-income (middle-class) Indian’s pulse!
This will work among high-class peoples only!

    Existing BSNL’s roam-free pan@199 may suit for middle-income/budget customers.

  • SAURABH JAIN July 10, 2013 3:47 pm

surely its not a cheap plan as compared to Airtel and vodafone. also the counterpart MTNL has come up with decent and cheap plan. BSNL should revise and launch plans for per day types in roaming.

    • RS July 10, 2013 8:12 pm

i heard Rs. 5/day 69/month are also launched by BSNL from this month only

  • saroj July 10, 2013 3:46 pm

why one should recharge with RC405 instead of 199 for 6 months?

  • Kranthi Kumar July 10, 2013 3:03 pm

BSNL management must be trying either to recover the losses or totally shut down the company.

Rs.405/6 months is far costly than what other networks offer with Better service, quality & Coverage. I strongly recommend to make changes in rates of these plans to reach the customer base.

    • Arul Ruban July 10, 2013 7:42 pm

it cost around 4 per day where as others providing 5 per day

      705/180days= 3.9
      405/180 days = 2.25

Now tell me who is cheating

      • sushant July 11, 2013 6:32 am

        Reliance= 194 for 6 month – 1.07 rs/day
        IDEA= 231 for 6 month -1.28 rs/day

but i think BSNL want to compete with these operator but they dont know service quality is also a important factor.
        BSNL have totally worst network

      • Tharun George July 11, 2013 7:35 am

For reliance Rs 194 /180= Rs 1 per day.

Now tell me who is cheating

        • Arul Ruban July 11, 2013 9:35 pm

          Dear Tharun George,

Existing plan 199 also available in BSNL.

+ Free Voice Calls (BSNL to BSNL)= 4500 Seconds
          + Free Voice Calls(all other network) = 4500 Seconds
+ Free 3G Video Calls (BSNL to BSNL) = 3000 Seconds
          + FREE 3G Data = 50 MB
          + FREE SMS = 50 (National)

          What relience providing for 194?

  • Keshav Jha July 10, 2013 2:56 pm

    An innovative joke by BSNL.

    • Arul Ruban July 10, 2013 7:33 pm

Not BSNL, Pvt operators makes u joker…
      Let us calculate
pvt offers Free roming for 5/- per day

      5*180 days = 900/-
Now compare it with BSNL 199, 405, 705
Morever, ur money utilized for our national development, because BSNL not cheat Taxes

      • Sanjib July 10, 2013 7:49 pm

        U r right..

      • MA July 10, 2013 7:51 pm

        Arul… when comparing please note-
        1. Compare between daily packs of bsnl with daily packs of pvt. op
        2. Compare between monthly packs of bsnl with monthly packs of pvt. op

You are making a joke of yourself only here
        Thank you (no offence)

        • Arul Ruban July 10, 2013 8:26 pm

          Dear MA,
Thanks for your comments, Let us take Atel & Voda monthly pack

          1. Atel
          79 per month * 6 = 474
          Ref : http://telecomtalk.info/airtel-offers-free-incoming-calls-while-on-roaming-plan-start-at-rs-5-prepaid-and-postpaid/106985/

          2. Voda
          71 per month * 6 = 426
          Ref : http://telecomtalk.info/vodafone-launches-free-incoming-while-on-roaming-at-rs5-per-day/107090/

          Now BSNL turn,
          405 for 180 days ( 67.5 per month)
+ Free Voice Calls (BSNL to BSNL) = 168 Minutes
          + Free Voice Calls(all other network) = 168 Minutes
+ Free 3G Video Calls (BSNL to BSNL) = 100 Minutes
          + FREE 3G Data = 200 MB
          + FREE SMS = 100 (National)

I’m new for telecom talk, so let me know what is wrong in my calculation

          • MA July 10, 2013 11:54 pm

There is nothing wrong in your calculations, bro. I was talking about comparing considering similar validity. Anyway, this is how you should compare. Good.

But still, I don’t want to use BSNL. I had pretty bad experiences with it. I was a BSNL subscriber somewhere around 2008. Network was best at that time. I had this student plan. It was cheapest compared to all at that time (49p/min with 2000 free sms/month) After 1 year, everyday, there was “network busy” in the evening. My plan was converted to general. Then I thought of leaving bsnl due to poor service. One bsnl employee himself said that there is no proper signal received on his phone using bsnl connection (I will not mention name). If this is the situation, God only knows how it’ll improve. They operateat 900 MHz which is the best, but poor quality.

” No operator is 100% perfect “. There are loopholes in every network. Even my private operator is not that good, but it is slightly better compared to bsnl in terms of “Quality of Service”, so I’m okay with it.

I won’t force anyone to leave bsnl and opt for private, it’s their personal choice. Thanks for reading.

            • Arul Ruban July 11, 2013 9:43 pm

“No operator is 100% perfect ”

              u r right MA

          • Tharun George July 11, 2013 7:32 am

You are again comparing 1 month pack against 6 month bsnl pack. If so compare this.

            Reliance Rs.194 for 180 days. (Rs 32.33/month)
Now BSNL Rs 405 for 180 days ( 67.5 per month) More than double. This plan excludes free roaming in two largest cities in India(Mumbai and Delhi).

Also these are very stupid plans from both companies, how many of you go for a 6 months roaming? In turn one month pack or daily is more than enough. Which only Idea, Airtel and Vodafone is giving.

            • Arul Ruban July 11, 2013 9:38 pm

199 plan for 180 days also available in BSNL with freebies

Additionally per day & per month packs also available

national development ??? Is looting the coffer and depositing it in foreign banks is the definition of the national development for folks like you. Otherwise I don’t think that there is any field where development could be felt in the last 9 years.

I usually go home once in 6 months, that also for 8-10 days only. Are you roaming 180 days continuously? And i am agree with MA & Tharun George.

BSNL ROAMING PLAN IS AVAILABLE FOR 6 MONTHS ! AND UNLIMITED INCOMING SOUNDS GR8 if call gets connected to roaming number

  • Sayantan July 10, 2013 2:30 pm

Bsnl is always innovative in providing useless plans.
Rs705 – 6months only on bsnl nd mtnl roaming.
Aircel is much better than wid Rs29.
Now airtel will copy as govt is charging high we r private we have the right to charge more den voda, idea will follow wid top operators charging high reliance, aircel will follow them.
At last TATA docomo whose network arent available will hike.

Rs 705 per month to get all India roaming with free incoming? To get extra two cities free incoming call you need to pay almost double than normal.

Reliance is providing free roaming for 6 months for Rs 194. Then BSNL comes up with this stupid plan 20 times costly.

    Shame on BSNL.

Rs.705 for 6 months / 180Days not for 1 month, effective cost for 1 month would be Rs.117.50

Not a good idea of BSNL for providing such costly plans. Ofcourse a roamer wouldn’t spend that huge amount even when his I/C is charged at Re 1/min.

Rs 5 plans are best for me! :-)
