Again BSNL playing dirty tricks with its users by not informing them in advance. Auto renewal is a clever trick used by service providers to loot users. Most of the time they never mention that the plan will be auto renewed and users end up recharging twice. This facility should be optional not mandatory. Especially when BSNL doesn’t know anything about refunding people’s money.

That customers recharge/revalidate their sim card when the validity of sim card expires is the
usual practice followed from the day mobile prepaid card was introduced
There has been a sudden change in the recharge method followed by BSNL, which was not
notified to the customers or to the Retail Rechargers (Dealers) nor was this change posted on
their website .This new practice is called AUTO RENEWAL or AUTO RECHARGE, which is claimed
by BSNL to be for the benefit of the customers, but in practice this changed procedure creates
chaos to the customers and not at all user- friendly, as BSNL seems to think.
Problems in Auto Renewal Procedure are:
    a. Customer was unaware of this procedure itself, but BSNL claims to have sent SMS
message to the customers but hardly any customer has received any such SMS message.
In any case what happens if a customer is English-illiterate and so he does not naturally
bother to look at the SMS messages. Also, as the customers are usually bombarded
with hundreds of junk messages from BSNL, which only irritate people, who, therefore,
    never read such messages.
    b. Had BSNL at least informed the Retail rechargers, then they would have in turn alerted their
regular customers or at least the customers who want to recharge, but BSNL failed to inform
their Rechargers or their association and it has been established that many customers have
complained to Customer Care Desk of BSNL as well as directly to Rechargers about this.
    c. If BSNL thinks that Auto Recharge/Renewal is user- friendly and it will ensure not losing their
subscribers, then the system should be programmed/fine- tuned in such a way that after
autorenewal/recharge, any attempt (unwittingly, of course) by the concerned customer to
renew/recharge his sim card should generate a response from BSNL that the sim card has
already been renewed /recharged. Or in case the customer had already renewed/recharged
his sim card, then autorenewal should be automatically disenabled. This way, BSNL can ensure
that their customers do not lose money by duplication of renewal/recharge process. In other
words BSNL’s software for autorenewal should get activated for a particular sim card only if the
card remains unrenewed till the last minute before expiry moment. In such a scenario neither
the customer will not lose money nor BSNL will lose their subscribers. But the ground reality is
that where the customer was debited with the cost of renewal even when he had already done
so, any complaint by the customer is not even treated by BSNL as complaint nor do they answer
the queries and on the contrary treat the customer as though mistake was committed by them.
d.To a customer the following simple questions need answers:
    a. Who gave BSNL the authorization for Auto Recharge/Renewal ?
    b. How does BSNL decide the customer plan ?
Will BSNL answer the foregoing ?

    @ss
other private operator coverage is better than BSNL, one of the reason is BSNL always follows radiation norms, BSNL is public (sector) company and thinking about the public health. so we should support only BSNL

  • ss November 3, 2012 7:21 pm

have u ever used bsnl mobile any time. Is it bcoz airtel and vodafone sounds good so you are comparing with apple. Its only bcoz its brand name is good not by service. Use airtel 3g in bangalore you will come to know poor quality of airtel

  • Tharun George November 3, 2012 7:16 am

    @sunny
Plan vouchers are for extending tariff validity not sim validity. Rs 34 from balance beans you need to recharge for Rs 50. Its only 20 mins offnet.
    As per BSNL
“Customers of Saral Anant will have to do topups of Rs 200 or above to get 180 days validity extention.Validity extention from old expiry date.”

Private operators now look for inactive sims, they don’t care about recharge. I have 1 vodafone, 1 docomo and 1 airtel sim with no recharge for more than 3 years.

Cost of ownership of a BSNL lifetime sim is Rs 400 a year and other sim is Rs 100 per year. While all other sim can be owned for 1 incoming call/sms in 60/90 days.

  • sunny November 3, 2012 12:02 am

i think u are not aware of BSNL plan and TRAI guidlines, otherwise u could not comment like this, trai says no plan voucher with more than 180 days, and validity can be extended through plan voucher only except life time(min 200 recharge in 180 days) u need only 34+34 =68 rs for one year with 70+ 70=140 min free talktime @Tharun George

They dont hav to folow any rules. Here private telcos implement their strategies first. Govt wil make it policies later.. 3g roaming is the live example..

    Friends,
For national telecom back bone concern, Everything “Transparent” with decency. I had already talked with BSNL TN Marketing team, they told me, “BSNL has already provided various plan vouchers for all prepaid plans as per TRAI amendments and All prepaid customers can extends their validity by SMS mode by debiting plan voucher cost in main account (read old news).
In Chennai & RoTN BSNL Mobile customers are keeps on asking to customer care helpline regarding how to extend validity by manually, how much we need to spent, we want automatic validity extension like private networks, that’s why we have decided to introduce the automatic validity extension facility”.
BSNL, the only network in India, Plan vouchers are available in 3 modes – transparent manner.
    1. SMS mode.
    2. Automatic plan validity extension.
    3. Recharge mode.
    Did you know?
Till today, BSNL network is not starts to terminate their in-active subscribers.
The only network in India providing the services at very low cost, BSNL asks only Rs.68/-(Rs.34+Rs34) for one year (Per Sec Plan) main account validity + 140 Minutes(70+70) free local calling, that’s it.
You can enjoy all facility in prepaid services and your number keeps active for another one year.
Currently, except BSNL Mobile, none of the private networks won’t allow your number keeps active at just Rs.68/- for one year.(Per Sec Plan)
After Reliance had terminate 3 crore mobile connections, all the private networks are now terminate their in-active customers (including life-time customers), those who are not ready to spent Rs.400/- per year your number have more chances to terminate in private networks.
Because of “poor visibility”, you are all simply blame – BSNL.
So don’t blindly blame in our national telecom back-bone, just look into deeply – what’s happening in ground, then comment!

have u ever been to rural areas ? I think u r not . Bsnl has zero coverage there. Airtel & vodafone are the only network present in remote vilages.. & we do not need coverage from bsnl in himalaya mountain, first cover the plane properly

  • Sathish November 2, 2012 8:24 pm

    @Tharun George:

No brother, In Chennai & RoTN Concern, after end of the main account validity, they won’t terminate first 15+165=180 days.

First 15 days we can receive the incoming calls only!

I have Already checked with my Chennai & RoTN BSNL SIM.

  • Adi November 2, 2012 7:23 pm

    @zeeshan
I knew someone will tell about saral anath plan :D
In BSNL, after the plan validity you cannot make outgoing calls. What I pointed out is after the plan validity subscriber should automatically come under a general plan such as saral anath instead of barring the out/in calls!!!

Plan voucher is always optional. But in BSNL, subscriber is left with no choice!!! Saral anath plan is not the solution. Better BSNL update their system and stop the non-sense validity game.

  • Arun November 2, 2012 6:09 pm

Airtel and vodafone are like ‘apple’ in mobile phones and pc. And bsnl is like china mobile phones.
Airtel and Voda are much costlier when compare with bsnl…. But they are giving good quality network…because why many people are using their service by giving more money and why they become top in INDIA……

  • PD November 2, 2012 6:09 pm

    Adi :
Why BSNL do all these non-sense? Provide life-time validity with a base tariff as private operators do.

    Tharun George :
Why BSNL still plays the validity game? Even their lifetime plans have validity of only 6 months. May be this how BSNL still keeps it profit up.
Maintenance cost of a BSNL sim is Rs 50- 100 every 180 days in term of validity extension. While all other operators just need 1 incoming or outgoing call every 90 days.

    +1

  • Sudhakar November 2, 2012 6:08 pm

    to Sathish :

Plans are good. But the customer care is worst !!!. One has to wait more than 30 minutes to talk to the CC. If this improves, BSNL will be number 1.

  • Sathish November 2, 2012 4:58 pm

    @S.Sudhakar

Yes, fantastic and affordable budget – telecom per year.

Me too using BSNL Mobile for past five years, it’s simply better! than private networks(TN Concern).

South Zone BSNL Network and their over all penetration is much much better than Rest of India.

BSNL should Replicate the ‘same’ to Rest Of India.

  • sandiagu November 2, 2012 4:58 pm

    Average is Rs.122.66 per month.

  • S.Sudhakar November 2, 2012 4:35 pm

    Hey techfrick :

    In Tamilnadu :

I used Airtel. Then I ported in to Reliance GSM. The coverage was worst and GPRS connectivity is even worse. I have decided to port out to BSNL. BSNL in Tamilnadu provides good coverage and GPRS speed (20 KB/s to 25 KB/s).

The only thing is that I have to spend for :

    > Rs.35 booster (local at Rs.0.01 for 2 seconds) x 6 months = Rs.210
    > Rs.54 booster (200 MB 2G data per month) x 6 months = Rs.324
    > Rs.56 booster (6000 SMS for 60 days) x 3 times = Rs.168
    > Rs.34 plan continuation voucher x 1 time = Rs.34
TOTAL = Rs.736 for 6 months + (topup extra). Average

  • techfrick November 2, 2012 3:37 pm

bsnl sucks. Is there anyone who is satisfied with it ? All are using bsnl just bcoz they dont have time to port out. bsnl is the worst mobile service in india.

So if sufficient prepaid balance is available in customers account, then the amount of plan validity vouchers
will be deducted IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER a customer wish to continue to the plan or not. Good going by BSNL.

  • zeeshan November 2, 2012 2:44 pm

saral anant plan is also there with no validity. you may go for it. In BSNL we have choice to choose plan according to our needs. If someone wants plan like private operators he may opt saral anant plan.@Adi

  • zeeshan November 2, 2012 12:20 pm

    Very good action from BSNL

  • S.Sudhakar November 2, 2012 12:02 pm

Oh no. If a customer wants to change the plan at the end of the validity, he must use the plan voucher (not extension voucher) on the previous day of the recharge itself !!!.

Instead of this typing RENEW and sending to 53733 was useful.
