BSNL Launches 3G Mobile Services In Kochi (Kerala)

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today launched 3G mobile services at Kochi (Formerly known as Cochin) in the state of Kerala. With the 3G services BSNL can offer Video calls, High-speed Internet with speed Up to 3.6 Mbps, High quality multimedia services and live Mobile TV facility.

BSNL 3G services inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Agriculture K V Thomas at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi in the presence of BSNL PGM Mr. E M Abraham and Mr.N Haribabu, GM (Operations), BSNL Ernakulam.

Speaking on the launch of 3G services in Kochi, Mr. E M Abraham, Principal General Manager,BSNL Ernakulam SSA said that “BSNL 3G Mobile service is now available to Kochi Municipal Corporation Area as well as surrounding urban areas like Tripunithura, Kalamassery, Aluva, Angamaly, Perumbavoor, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Thodupuzha and Idukki which comes under the Ernakulam SSA of Kerala telecom circle. To provide high quality 3G services across the Kochi city and all the surrounding towns we installed 3g enable 150 Base Trans-receiver Stations (BTS) and remaining 84 3G BTS will be set up by the end of the month.

BSNL also launches an introductory 3G offer wherein BSNL subscribers will get 50 free video calls and 25 MB Data usage who enrolled for 3G services up to 31st March 2010. Beyond free usage Local Voice and Video calls at just 30 Paisa per minute and All STD video calls will be chargeable at 50 paisa with the prepaid FRC120. BSNL 2G prepaid mobile subscribers can migrate to 3G service just by one SMS “M3G120″ to 53733 while for postpaid subscriber can send “M3G25″ to 53733.

    wow cool bsnl is launching its 3G services in indian cities very fast on an avg 1 town in 3 days…. BSNL ll soon see its subscriber base flooding.. BSNL will become new docomo( in terms of subscriber additions)

    mr sanjay bafna can u tell me whether t speed of 3G which u have mentioned as 3.1mbps is correct? cos i had read in technology magzine tat 3G offers speed at 7.2mbps & 4G @ 37mbps

    With 3G any one can get 3.6 to 7.2 Mbps. Speed depends one Network BTS and customers devices.

    sir im using unlocked idea netsetter(huawei EG162G modem) wit Aircel pocket internet. can u tell me upto wat speed a EDGE network can provide? bcos in my modem its written 236.8kbps(29.8kB/s) but some times it goes upto 335kbps (42kB/s). so how can speed cross the specified limit??? pls reply im waiting

    Best of Luck BSNL… Its 2G network is very very congested now… Hope 3G will help BSNL to retain its high ARPU customers atleast…
