National Telecom back bone and Pan India 3G mobile service operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is all set to launch new web portal to auction of its premium /vanity GSM mobile numbers (2G/3G) to prospective customers across all telecom circles.
BSNL’s new web portal http://eauction.bsnl.co.in will offers online / E- Auction facility wherein prospective customers can bid for BSNL premium/ vanity GSM (2G/3G) mobile numbers of their choice from the list of available mobile numbers on the portal.
According to BSNL, As the demand is extremely high, these number pooled for auction so that every individual can make out a chance to grab the number of their choice by participating in the auction conduced on the website.
Earlier, BSNL introduced “Choose your Mobile Number” Portal for FREE on-line selection service for Normal prepaid Mobile number as per customers choice which received very good response and the sale of prepaid mobile connections under this scheme has crossed 1,20,000 within a month of official launch.
The new web portal of on-line premium numbers is devlop by BSNL’s own tech team – SancharSoft and it will be available for all customers from 1st June, 2012.

I think its a smart “Business” idea! how far its successful depends on the customers….
Actually these numbers are more imp when the numbers are used for business purposes…like justdial, meru etc… where the company wants ppl to remember the number easily to call…. and you won’t believe but in inbound related telebusinesses the demand for these numbers is immense with ppl requiring specific number patterns…

Auction of premium numbers.
How come BSNL is unable to come up with better products and ideas than such trifles.
I had given a presentation to BSNL Kerala few years back on the explosive business potential of of non-telephony related Value added service “Money Management by phone” as un-banked pay by phone method, both mobile and fixed using the existing technology, systems and network.
I had taken up with DOT, TRAI, MOC, RBI etc to alleviate their fear that such un-banked Pay by Phone services will not be disrupting to banking industry. Moreover, it is the quickest and simplest way to realize ‘Financial Inclusion of common mass especially in the lower economic strata across the country.
