BSNL To Increase Broadband Speed by March Across Major Cities

India’s National telecom backbone and largest broadband service provider BSNL today said that its Broadband customers will be able to experience enhanced broadband speed in cities across India by March end.

BSNL increase in broadband speed

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director RK Upadhyay said that “We are about to finish Phase 1 of exchange modernization project using next generation technology from Huawei by March this year.”

“After this transformation, BSNL customers will be able to experience enhanced broadband speed, video calling, call transfer, modern cloud computing based services etc, Mr Upadhyay added.

The modernization of BSNL’s 10,000 exchanges in urban centres, which are being equipped with new technology provided by Chinese telecom gear provider firm Huawei, in cities is expected to complete by the end of next month.

BSNL has decided to work with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) for modernizing 27,000 exchanges in rural area. Apart from urban areas or cities, BSNL’s rural exchanges were built using technology from C-DOT. The PSU decided to work with C-DOT for rural exchanges in Phase 2 which will be completed by end of next fiscal.

BSNL will have total of 4 million broadband lines on next generation technology by end of next fiscal.

Today is may 8th 2014 still no speed increase. the congress has brutally damage the country. congress should never be given a change again!!

Its Time to move on to BSNL Evado

    • Vishwanath May 12, 2014 1:28 pm

Be careful wireless is not like wire line the speed keeps fluctuating and you will not get full speed what they promised and the speed depends on what time you use, network coverage in your area, number of users connected to tower in your area. Most of them had a very bad experience with evdo.

  • Ivan April 21, 2014 10:55 pm

@BSNL why does bangalore get the crappiest plans? 1425 for 30 GB at a pathetic 4 Mbps….why can’t we get the same plans as Hyderabad?

You guys are seriously going to loose customers to ACT very soon….your attitude irritates me no end.

    BSNL Should be privatized.

  • varadendra April 17, 2014 8:10 pm

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director RK Upadhyay said that “We are about to finish Phase 1 of exchange modernization project using next generation technology from Huawei by March this year.”

This is a false statement as it is the month of April ,there is no such enhancement of broadband speed.

  • ad April 5, 2014 10:43 pm

  • Vishwanath March 26, 2014 12:31 pm

  • Ganesh March 3, 2014 6:56 pm

The plan applied by BSNL in Andra Pradesh is very good. UL950 plan is getting 8 mbps up to 60 gb after fup 2 mbps. Will the same available all across India on coming months?. Or will it be only in Andra in which BSNL is compete with beam fiber?

  • Rushabh February 22, 2014 2:18 pm

    Today I went to bsnloffice….
there the employe says that the 525rs had removed the fup and now its unlimited usage @512kbps…

    • Preet February 23, 2014 12:33 am

BSNL might be compliance with TRAI guidelines of providing minimum 512kbps to all BSNL Users.
And BSNL might increase speed with some high speed limit to some high data usage.
Its good for all. Loving it..!!

      • rahul maurya February 26, 2014 11:05 pm

In 525 plan, It is still 256kbps in Kanpur.

Anyway, this is a Bumper News for all BSNL broadband users…!!
Eagerly waiting for the announcement at Telecom Talk.

  • S.SUDHAKAR February 19, 2014 1:47 pm

BSNL will never increase the broadband speed here after. Do not believe it. BSNL will only increase the tariff and futher decrease the quality of the customer care. It ia very difficult to report complaints also.

  • praveen February 19, 2014 9:44 am

      N it will b hike from 50 to 200rs!

  • S.Sudhakar February 17, 2014 8:45 am

    To all :

Stop comparing wireless data rate with wireline broadband data rate.

  • Rudradeep Biswas February 17, 2014 12:40 am

Frankly speaking, don;t expect any change in BSNL in East and North circles anytime now. BSNL is totally south oriented. It works better there, and here it sucks to the core like a hell.

    • S.Sudhakar February 17, 2014 6:27 am

BSNL internet connection is stable* in Tamilnadu for more than 350 days in a year. So I think it should be the same* in the other parts of India also. BSNL is honest in billing and speed compared to the private operators.

      * means – provided that you do not stay in a area close to highways where the highway persons dig and damage the cable frequently for which BSNL can’t be blamed.

      • ssthanu February 17, 2014 1:27 pm

True, BSNL link will go down rarely, that too for few min.
And the newly recruited bsnl youngsters are responding quickly incase of any complaint

        • S.Sudhakar February 17, 2014 9:39 pm

Yes. BSNL is working mostly. But in Tamilnadu, if problem arises then it is a big headache for me to report the complaint since the exchange in my place comes under the SSA of another city. In local exchange some times they will as this ‘is ADSL light glowing continuously?. If yes there is no problem in the local exchange. So contact any person at the corresponding SSA.

Since I have complained about them previously, I have BSNL’s lineman’s mobile number and internet SDE number of my place handy. If they deny my complaint, I will blackmail them by saying that I will report to DoT, Delhi. Then they will listen to our words.

          • BABU February 18, 2014 10:46 pm

As per my knowledge there is no need to complaint here and there. When ever you face any problem in either Broad Band or Land Line please call 198 (only three digit number) from any BSNL Land Line or BSNL mobile in india to register a complaint…..

  • idea888 February 16, 2014 11:04 pm

@Darshan i talking abt that. i call 4-5 months ago to cc of bsnl they told me that u can visit vashi bsnl n get the mob no. the my question is that can i take connection in mumbai (not in Maharashtra) of bsnl and can i enjoy 3G of bsnl???

    • Darshan February 17, 2014 12:10 am

C its simple answer u cant get bsnl sim anywhere in mumbai be it navi mumbai (vashi) or thane or any parts of coming to the point that if by something u get sim of bsnl then yes u can njoy using 3g in mumbai…when u use bsnl card in mumbai it automatically registers on mtnl network nu can use 3g without any data.charges…if u recharge with bsnl 3g data pack I.e 1gb for 139rs or any pack then u get speed of 2mbps in mumbai anywhere…..

  • idea888 February 16, 2014 8:03 pm

@yogesh i want to know speed of mtnl?

  • idea888 February 16, 2014 5:57 pm

help. esmail and Darshan. how the Mtnl 3G speed in upload n download in mumbai or navi mumbai??? is it bad??? or should i opt for reliance 3G???? i know Mtnl 2g bad . don’t know mtnl 3g. help n solve my problem. and can i use bsnl in mumbai (purchased from mumbai).??? I want Mtnl 500mb 3g plan 99 rs. pack

    • Yogesh February 16, 2014 7:19 pm

Mtnl: 99rs/500 MB; Vodafone: 95rs/300 MB. Bsnl can be use in mumbai on mtnl n/w. Better would be go with idea: Good n/ w, n as u want 3g so go for vodafone. Mtnl is avarage. Here in aurangabad maharashtra: many of my friends use bsnl: 98 rs/700 MB/21 days or 139 rs/1GB/30 days, n they r satisfied with bsnl. in mumbai u ve reliance 3g:156/1GB

    • Darshan February 16, 2014 9:12 pm

You can use bsnl in mumbai…
yeah speed is good (for its price) getting 2mbps by using bsnl in Dolphin I.e MTNL network…
But the main problem is mtnl 3G not available everywhere in mumbai it automatically switches to 2G where speed max in downloading (Uc brpwser is 22kb/s…
N how r u getting bsnl card in mumbai…I am in a problem that when my bsnl recharge finish I usually use paytm for but sometimes by mistake my netpack finishes I forgot to do rechatge then full fattati hai…Bcuz nowhere in mumbai u get bsnl recharge….if u r taking direct mtnl connection then no problem n yes the speed is 2mbps and goes max to 3mbps if u want more speed then take Vodafone bcuz reliance if u leave mumbai then coverage is very pathentic ( feel like to throw the mobile )….

  • raj22 February 16, 2014 4:40 pm

TT Plz Tell If wimax speed will increase its really bad paying 840 for just low speed :(
will keep wimax if speed will also increase on wimax on lower plans

    • AKHILESH SHUKLA February 16, 2014 9:00 pm

      • AK February 16, 2014 10:35 pm

@akhilesh can u pls provide any link where to see the new tariff plans of bsnl wimax

  • Sangya Sharma February 16, 2014 1:37 am

Finally something to cheer about. I would have liked the fall in tariff plan in accordance to 3g as broadband is very costly now compared to wireless internet. These guys have great technology, uptime and reach but no willpower and support. They can beat AVoId single handedly if they want but then who cares if salary comes on 1st anyways.

  • DARSHAN February 16, 2014 12:45 am

In terms of 3g BSNL is going pathentic everyday…
Even after showing full coverage while incoming it says u r mobile is switched off every 3hrs the internet stops working….
I had given grievence over there website & a person had called me and said we are working on it we will resolve itsoon and till date no improvement.BSNL is my 4yrs old number my first no taken in 10std…but everyday its forcing me to port the number.Hope so they improve…
    In broadband manners its superb….

  • Raghu February 16, 2014 12:14 am

Sanjay Ji, pl clarify to us which are the major cities they are going to increase the speeds? for both home and Office customers? pl clarify this point. it will be better if u mention the Cities as well in the post. Thanks.

    • Biswadeep February 16, 2014 8:54 am

      All Ties 1 & 2 cities maybe !

  • Mahmood Junaid February 15, 2014 11:55 pm

Tarun, sanjay bafna and other main tt guys please make a post of bsnl’s 3g expansion… they r too slow… in kerala it has been 4 years since launch and still 3g coverage is pathetic… please check it out

  • Ivan February 15, 2014 11:32 pm

BSNL is so typically govt like….I mean no innovation at all totally waste of resources this company may do better if it goes public.

I would want BSNL to do Beyer but they only ever come with good plans only when some other company is offering something better example being beam in hyderabad.

BSNL is reported as reliable by only some people but the majority sticks to our coz they don’t have an alternative yet I am one such person too….

RJIO is coming and the competitors are running for cover ;)

  • Nikhil February 15, 2014 10:45 pm

What about EVDO speed and coverage?

  • himangshu February 15, 2014 9:53 pm

    rjio ko dekhke….

daaar ke maare Bsnl kaaa haaal… dekhon… ab speed increase krne mai bhi koi faida nahi….

  • sai charan kv February 15, 2014 9:46 pm

i am not satisfy with my speed… i am getting. 1.2 mbps out of 4mbps… in AP

    • Vijay February 16, 2014 8:33 am

      Dude be happy.. I’m getting 400kbps 3g

      • Bal February 16, 2014 4:42 pm

Well i occasionally get 5-6 mbps speed on bsnl 3g in Rohtak. But in Chandigarh i got 4.2 mbps max. I guess the local telephone exchanges are responsible for the speeds.

  • sibble ji February 15, 2014 9:40 pm

    Kitni speed increase hogi …………paaji

  • S.Sudhakar February 15, 2014 9:28 pm

BSNL broadband is up for nearly 355 days in a year. Good service. But bad customer care.

Please provide at least 2 Mbps unlimited (at all time) download speed and 2 Mbps upload speed in all the plans after FUP. Still the upload speed is stuck at 768 Kbps. Why are you (BSNL) selfish to make upload speed and download speed the same?.

    • Khaleel February 17, 2014 5:44 pm

I have two connections one at my hometown(BSNL) and other at the city(TATA) i work.
I get 512kbps down at home while getting 768kbps upload speed (even after FUP).
But the TATA connection wont give more than 256kbps.
I think BSNL BB offers good upload speed in home broadband while comparing with other operators.
