BSNL Cuts Off Services to IDEA, Airtel and Vodafone, Ignores TRAI Directive

India’s National Telecom Backbone and Pan India 3G mobile service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) cuts off the interconnection lines of some leading private operators – Bharti Airtel, IDEA Cellular and Vodafone Essar from its network Land-line and Mobile, on account of non-payment of huge outstanding of distance-based carriage charges in various telecom circles like Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra-Goa and Rajasthan.

With the disconnection of private operators POI, the customers of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, and IDEA Cellular cannot make any calls to BSNL customers as well as not getting calls from BSNL network in various circles. However, BSNL has allowed the subscribers of these private operators to make emergency calls to some BSNL numbers like 100, 101, 102 & 108.

Despite, on 18th October 2011, Indian Telecom Regulator TRAI issued directives (406/10) to BSNL to restore the inter connectivity with all private operators immediately and submit a report on Friday, 21 October and till date there has been no action from the BSNL side.

According to a press statement issued by COAI, BSNL continued disconnections despite orders of the Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) clearly instructing the organization to act otherwise. While some telecom experts that BSNL may challenge the powers of TRAI to issue any directions to it.

BSNL’s Media Statement

BSNL said that “the company had withdrawn the inter connectivity after giving prior notice & sufficient time for payments of outstanding as per interconnect agreements with these operators.Instead of clearing the dues, these operators are spreading false propaganda against BSNL.”

Now the BSNL has restored the services of the three companies. The decision of BSNL is right in all respect for disconnection. Because due to some political interferece the private operators are deniening just and right demand of BSNL

private operatos like vodaphone airtel and idea should feel ashemed of them selves as they are playing a tricky game.as they think govt company bsnl should move form their way so that they can charge the customer more and loot the people and aswell as govt all customers should come togeother and teach this private company a good lesson . they are in plan to dispose off bsnl organisation and rule independantly so that they can loot the country and all adic customer of mobile

This is the Shame on the part of the so called south asia’s largest private telecom service provider .They should clear their liabilities due timely. as they recover same from their customers. If not it is also the fault in service to their customers ,for not providing connectivity for the BSNL customers as all india telecom company.

decision is right but late. several companies and individuals are defaulters. if the user not paying how a company can survive. TRAI and TDSAT always supports this. BSNL should some more drastic steps against defaulters. Why BSNL h
    hesitating for that.

    @S.Tiwari
@ S TIWARI … BSNL has ALLOWED itself to fall into such losses: SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP.
It may be the “Right decision” but definitely not at the “Right Time”

    >>BSNL is in loss of more than Rs 6000 crores in 2011 and if these Pvt. operators pay BSNL these charges, the company will run, other wise the company will close down and these pvt. operators will go back to call charges as Rs 2 local and Rs 3 STD.
I think BSNL has taken right decision at right time

    BSNL IS PATHETIC …
instead of LEGALLY sorting out issues, it is resorting to ARM TWISTING TACTICS (read CUSTOMER HARRASSMENT) and acting in an IMMATURE MANNER. Is this a democracy where EVERYONE has the right to reach out to anyone OR a politically controlled BSNL which thinks it can taken on the BIG 3 – A/I/V ???

    To josephjoychristo :

Yes. TRAI is always in favour of private operators in mobile sector. In broadband also it supports private operators (who have limited coverage) and gives more bandwidth.

But BSNL broadband coverage is wide spread and cost is ok. But the knowledge about the plans by the officials is worse and no person knows about it.

hello friends hw r u ….being bsnl user i appreciate the action taken by bsnl but the calls to 100,101 and emergency services to be allowed by bsnl ..and the pvt operators to be punished for irregularities..by TRAi it should direct the pvties to do the needful to the customers not to suffer bcoz of their defaulty to pay..will they allow their customers to talk free…now they are gvng only 80 rs for 100..then what is the difficlty in paying to the psu as per the agreement and why the TRAI is supporting these cheaters

Ultimately its BSNL customers who will suffer bcos out of 100 users more than 60 will be the users of these 3 Giants. Since incoming from BSNL is banned (BSNL users cannot make calls to Airtel,Voda & Idea) im sure that this will force BSNL users who definitely make majority of og calls to these 3 networks to PORT out from BSNL..
Clearly speaking BSNL is digging its own grave, I dont say its bd but perfectly MAD decision from BSNL officers…

majority customers in this companies only.. then any companies

Dude BSNL user’s can make outgoing calls to pvt operators but not pvt operators users. And as far as i know 90% of IT companies use BSNL landline so an employmee of these companies may not make an outgoing calls to his company when he is in emergency.

Supreme court itself directed these pvt operators to pay the outstanding amount after investigating the matter raised by pvt operator. Supreme Court found pvt operators guilty then who the hell is Trai to force BSNL to resume services ..?? Trai is really a accomplice. Go BSNL go i am with u.

In Maharashtra Circle from BSNL Mobile we can make outgoing calls to Idea, Airtel,Vodafone numbers and also Incoming to BSNL Mobile are receiving from Idea, Airtel & Vodafone numbers..
Only Incoming & Outgoing From BSNL Landlines to these Private operators are affected and Vice Versa..

So this is not affecting that much as now everybody has an Mobile connection so we can stay connected.. No need of Landlines to receive or Make calls..

Landlines mostly are used only for Broadband purpose and to make Land line to Land line calls as BSNL gives Rs.1/3min for LL to LL calling for Through out India… And also Mobile calling are costly from Landlines at Rs.1/min…

What BSNL did is correct. It must do the same in all the circles also.

But what about a call from Tamilnadu BSNL landline or mobile to the banned private operators in 4 circles and vice versa?. Then what about call from private operators in TN to the BSNL network in the disconnected 4 circles?.

i appreciate bsnl for this movements this step is very much needed inorder to comptete with pvt operators ( cheaters ) and also bsnl has to try to improve the standards like customer care, bsnl official is not knowing tariff details when i enquired in bsnl office officier asked me to look into the notice board. customer care is worst in bsnl gprs speed, 2g network coverage in my area is poor …..
