The Best Internet Plans from local ISPs in Bangalore

The Local ISPS are swarming with marketing strategies and low-priced high-speed Internet packages. It becomes a daunting task for consumers to select the best ISP within their price bracket we curate some of the best internet packages from the ISPs in Bengaluru so that it will be a cakewalk for you to select the best one.

We have created some idealized situation wherein a person would be requiring a maximum of 30GB fast speed internet and then throttled to a minimum of 1MBPS.

Act Fibernet

Act Fibernet has a major chunk of Bangalore covered with its latest Fiber net network. The best plan is the ACT Blaze for Rs1049 which entitles you for a free 50GB of usage and then the speed gets throttled to 50GB. After throttling we were able to get actual download speeds of around 50-60kpbs which is descent.

Hathway Broadband

Hathway has one of the best after sales service (Comparatively!) and they offer free shifting of the connection within the city limits. They have introduced a handful of Fiber Broadband plans which are extremely affordable. The HD Stream 2 plan bundles a 40GB of usage at a Whopping 50Mbps and will be throttled to 512kbps. The only drawback is that Hathway expects you to pay advance for 3 months.

You Broadband

You Broadband have a descent network however the performance varies from different nodes. The downside is that the outages are a little too frequent but again the technicians attend to it on a priority basis. The Hurricane 12mbps plan gives a full speed quota of 50GB and after that the speed gets throttled to 1mbps which is a 50% increase in speed over the other ISP. The installation charge is perched at a high Rs770 for a new connection.

Tikona Broadband

Tikona is one of the oldest players in the localized ISP sector. Tikona offers lower speeds than the other Internet providers but offers more data. The best plan we came across is the 4Mbps plan which for a monthly rental of Rs 1100 offers 50GB of free usage post which it caps the speed at the usual 512Kbps.

Most of the ISPs lack agile after sales support and this is the only drawback of the local ISPs. With the advent of fiber networks the speeds have improved drastically and the frequency of outages has come down.

We would love to hear from you, drop down a comment about your experience with any of the ISP in Bengaluru.

ACT is very bad in giving connection and customer care is hopeless. Even after taking advance subscription no one answers properly and connection was not given after 10 days also. It is worst customer care be careful

Tikona,my be good in start off or show off. If it is not feasible to give a connection or any problem which they cannot solve, they will simply block your number on their mobile, so u will always get a busy tone. Believe me, they will be utterly not reachable. You will always have to talk to customer care, who will always ask 24 hours to solve.

I subscribed for ACT on 9th Jan 2015. My documents was accepted on 11th Jan. The payment was accepted on 12th Jan.
I was supposed to get the connection within 10 days as per the SMS I received from ACT Team.
After a few days, an ACT electrician installed a distribution box at my home and told me that the technical team will connect the cables to your workstation. The technical team never showed up.
So, I registered an ACT request No 0003592279 on 16th Jan spoke to Prashanth from ACT who assured that this will be solved within 24 hrs. Surprisingly, I got a SMS that my broadband service has been activated and with it my username and password.

Next day (17th Jan), I got a SMS that the ticket has been resolved, and to reopen the ticket, type “N” and send to 8861202208 which I sent.
On 21st Jan (The Day I should have got the connection), I got the same SMS that the ticket has been resolved, and to reopen the ticket, which I sent on 22nd Jan.
And again on 24th Jan with the same SMS.

I had requested the ACT Team (Prashanth, Kiran, Chiranjeevi and Anand) on different occasions to provide me with an internet connection. So far, no one from the technical team has responded. Note: I’m using BSNL connection to write this review.

The only update I get is that this issue will be resolved in 24 hrs and the periodic SMS to reopen the ticket.

I’ll inform all on when and how this ends, i.e., When I’ll get my connection and will I get a connection from ACT!!!

    Hope all goes well…

Some useful information the ACT team gave me:
Maximum number of lines distributed from a box is 8.
The distribution box consumes 5 Watts of input power supply.
In return for the power supply for the distribution box, monthly Rupees 50 will be reduced in the internet bill.
RJ45 cable is used for internet connection. (I didn’t know)

Our BSNL is the best in terms of customer service although ISP parameters are low when compared to private players

      Hi Ashwin,
i also faced the same issue, after all installation but it took 2 months for Act team to let me know that connection in my area is not feasible, really very poor service from Act team and very poor response with no customer centric approach.

Tikona is the worst ISP I did ever encounter. I had been to many places and used services from Beam, Act, Airtel etc. Firstly, IP addresses are provided by Tikona DHCP server. Good luck getting an IP address from Tikona. You need to keep restarting their proprietary modem to get an IP address. After that, the connection will go down every alternate day. Call the tolled customer care number to get the issue fixed. Tikona Customer Care has the most unprofessional, rude, non-tech agents who don’t have any idea about your issue. Even if you are able to login to the Internet, there is 0 kbps upload speed and full 2mbps download speed, which means you cant open any webpage or its practically useless as TCP acknowledgement packets cant go through. Not only that, there will be random packet drop of around 10% all the time. Basically, you will waste your money by subscribing to Tikona wireless. Not to mention that you can only connect upto 2 devices max. I have spent Rs 300 only for calling their customer care. I am finally moving out of Tikona. I have 2mbps unlimited connection from them, which does not work. Tikona should brand themselves as: TIKONA-It just doesn’t work, or you are too lucky!

Hathway is one of the ISP’s of all.. The speed is not actually what they say.. they mention it as upto 10 or 15 mbps. The actual speed which you receive is 10 or 20% of the said speed. Also post FUP it is your worst nightmare.. the internet speeds steeps down so low your 2g network wud be more better than hathway.

  • Dixit - Bangalore November 16, 2014 11:08 am, 11:08 AM

All ISP providers are private except BSNL and they all get the connectivity thru BSNL only. also private providers are not accurate at their speed. bsnl is costly but accurate.

Except Hathway Broadband, other ISPs aren’t local at all! They all are available in Chennai!

    • Sudhakar August 19, 2014 8:13 pm, 8:13 PM

All are local providers. Do they provide PAN India coverage like BSNL broadband?.

      • renjucool August 20, 2014 7:21 pm, 7:21 PM

Why you need a PAN India operator? Are you running with you wifi modem all over India…. Post relevant question man, Grow Up!!!!

        • Sudhakar August 21, 2014 6:39 am, 6:39 AM

Running with a broadband modem all over India is far more better than rumming with data cards and getting crap speeds. Can you point out a single operator who gives stable speed under strong network coverage?. Wireline broadband does that.

    • Joy - Bangalore August 20, 2014 7:21 am, 7:21 AM

Hathway isn’t a local ISP whereas it has operations in New Delhi, Mumbai, Surat (Gujarat), Pune even in my small town Bhilai, they are launching High Speed Broadband in Kolkata very soon.

      • Sudhakar August 21, 2014 6:40 am, 6:40 AM

        Ok. They are regional operators.

  • Sudhakar August 19, 2014 12:52 pm, 12:52 PM

    • Darshan August 19, 2014 2:28 pm, 2:28 PM

They more or less are 50% that of download speed
Even airtel 4G when i was viewing the 4G speed in Pune
downloading speed is around 54mbps while uploading speed is 12mbps

      • Wasim - Mumbai August 20, 2014 12:22 pm, 12:22 PM

I installed Hathway on July 31staround 7.30pm. My plan is 50 mbps upto 30 gb. I had made a advance payment plus instalment charge ? 1000. I had to pay ? 200 for the guy who comes to activate. On 3rd of Aug I get a msg from Hathway saying I have already consumed 30 gb in just 3 days. I emailed hathwaybilldesk for my detail use. But no reply. Even call centre ppl have no idea about it. Now they have sent me an Unbilled amount of 160
