April 2010 Adds 11.18 Million New GSM Subscribers in India

Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has released the GSM subscriber base for April 2010 and, quite expectantly, new additions continue at an  average growth rate. The number of new GSM subscribers being added in April month 11.18 million as compared to at a monthly growth rate of 2.65%.

Among the GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone  added 2.9mn new users in April, taking its total base to 103.8mn while market leader and largest GSM operator Bharti Airtel record the highest new additions of 3 million subscribers by growth rate of 2.35, its total base raised to 130.6mn.




Idea Cellular added 1.5mn new customers, boosting its subscriber base to 65.3mn, while Aircel increased its base by over 1.6mn to 38.5mn at highest growth rate from other incumbents. State operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 1.2mn new customers which are approx 50% less from last month, taking its reach to 64.7mn.

Loop Mobile added 49,928 new subscribers, taking its total to 2.8mn. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 32,217 new customers, boosting its total base to 4.8mn. Uninor, the youngest GSM operators if India has added 0.75mn GSM subscriber while STel managed just 1,05.564 new subscribers from 3 circles. Etisalat DB which is not launched its commercial services yet but showing 4990 subscribers in 13 circles.

In terms of growth rate Uninor registered the highest growth of 17.77% with 5 million subscribers while Idea cellular recorded monthly additions at 2.29% with 1.4 million new subscribers. Market leader Bharti Airtel rocks this month and added highest new subscribers at growth of 2.35% and 3 million new subscribers while PSU BSNL recorded 1.98% growth with poor performance of 1.2 million new additions. Vodafone Essar managed a growth of 2.87% with 2.9 million new additions. Aircel continue registered growth of 4.36% and added 1.6mn new subscribers.

If we compare the circle-wise growth than Orissa and UP (East) circle managed the highest growth rate of 4.44% and 4.06% respectively while Jammu and Kashmir circle recorded negative growth rate of -2.28%.
