Airtel’s Gopal Vittal is the new COAI Chairman

Gopal Vittal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel has been elected as Chairman of COAI, which is an apex body that represents seven leading Indian mobile service operators, for 2016-17. Vittal is taking over from Himanshu Kapania, Managing Director of Idea Cellular. In addition to Vittal, COAI has also elected Sunil Sood, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone India, as the Vice-Chairman.

Rajan Mathews, Director General, COAI, extended his heartfelt gratitude to Kapania, the outgoing Chairman of COAI for his dynamic leadership to make the regulatory environment effective during one of the most challenging and demanding periods in the history of Indian telecom industry.

COAI said that it also designated its executive council for the new term at the meeting. Mathews also welcomed the new leadership at the helm of the association and congratulated them for accepting their positions for the coming term.
