The Special 5 somehow makes us feel that we are getting cheated… The rental counts to Rs.30 in a month and making local calls to one Airtel number @ 20p/min is quite pricy. Previously Airtel had an offer like this which cost Rs.17 a month and had this kind of offer as Friends n Family Pack.

U r right mate…previous 17 recharge offer was more better than Special 5(A much hyped & advertised offer by Airtel)…Vodafone RoB still gave us the 17rs offer…Jaago Airtel jago…advertise chorke tariff main dhayan do to aur bhi achcha hoga…

avishek do u in mumbai circle airtel freinds n family service was free without any rental no activation charges u can call upto 5 local airtel no. @ 30ps. But airtel revised this offer and now we can add STD as well as local number but with 5rs as number adding charges and 50ps per number charges so which one is better naturally the free one……………….airtel ROB alos gives same offer if u rechrge with rs.17 u can call one number @20ps

Airtel even cheating us in SMS pack. Vodafone’s SMS pack is far better!! With RC51 Vodafone gives 510 Local & National SMS whereas Airtel only gives 500 and that too just Local SMS

brother y u r comparing airtel with others u know reliance GSM provides 400 local/national SMS for 42 Rs. but reliance service is not Upto the mark as that of airtel and for 32rs. RGSM provides 500 local sms but do u most the SMS sent get failed whereas in airtel it is not the same

    latest news regarding airtel-MTN talk
Bharti has offered MTN a 27 percent of its stake for the same money instead of the 25 percent proposed earlier.
Under the offer earlier, Bharti had proposed to buy 36 percent of the South African company by offering shareholders half a Bharti share, whereas MTN was to get a 25 percent stake in the Indian company for $2.9 billion and through issuing new shares equal to 25 percent of its share capital.

Amid talks with South African telecom giant MTN for a possible deal, Bharti Chairman Sunil Mittal today met Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh and is understood to have discussed some contentious issue like dual listing and exemption from open offer to be availed by MTN.
Mittal’s meeting comes on a day when the market regulator SEBI revised the takeover norms that may have ramifications for the proposed deal between the Indian and the South African telecom firms to create a combined USD 23 billion entity.
As per the revised norms, an open offer will be triggered if any entity acquires GDRs/ADRs with voting rights amounting to a 15 per cent stake in any Indian company.
While SEBI Chairman C B Bhave declined to comment on Bharti-MTN deal in particular, the revised norms would require MTN to make an open offer if it is issued GDRs with voting rights.
“We can confirm that the structure under discussion with MTN will be fully compliant with the laws in both the countries. All relevant approvals, including exemption from open offer from SEBI (if required), would be sought at an appropriate time,” Bharti Airtel said in a statement here.
Both companies have extended period for exclusive talks till September 30 and according to highly placed sources talks both at the level of companies as well as government are still continuing to hammer out differences.
Bharti spokesperson, however, declined to comment on the impact of SEBI’s revised takeover norms on the proposed deal.
According to South Africa Government officials, they are working closely with India through their respective finance ministries on the proposed deal between Bharti AIrtel and MTN, including seeking exemption on a range of exchange controls regulations.
“We have received an application from MTN for an exemption on a range of exchange controls regulations, and due process is being followed. The SA government is working closely with the Indian government through their finance ministries.
“It would be important that such mergers are not only of benefit to the two companies, but to both countries as well”, Thoraya Pandy, spokesperson of National Treasury, South African Government, had told PTI an an e-mail query.
A group of officials from the National Treasury and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will be visiting India to meet with officials from the Indian Ministry of Finance
, regulatory authorities and officials of the central bank to discuss regulatory matters related to the deal.
Earlier in July this year, SEBI had said that South African firm MTN need not make an open offer to Bharti Airtel shareholders in India as its shareholding in the Sunil Mittal promoted firm would be through GDRs.
SEBI had said that an open offer would only trigger once the GDRs, issued to MTN and its shareholders by Bharti Airtel, are converted into local shares with voting rights.
Under the announced scheme of arrangement, Bharti Airtel is to acquire 49 per cent economic interest in MTN. In return, MTN will acquire 25 per cent economic interest in Bharti Airtel for USD 2.9 billion and MTN shareholders will acquire another 11 per cent.
The 15-year-old MTN is South Africa’s largest telecom company with over 103 million subscribers in 21 countries. The shareholding of the company is widely held, with the Mikati family of Lebanon controlling over 10.18 per cent, employee-controlled NewShelf 664 with 14.87 per cent and the government-controlled Public Investment
Corporation holding around 21 per cent…….

brother u can also opt for airtel night calling pack so save some bucks and in day time airtel as got various tariff voucher to cut down Airtel to Airtel call rates and instaead of shelling 15 rs per month for per number in freinds n family u can call every airtel number at a nominal rate….but u cant deny that airtel service is good so for something good u have to pay more

It still costs us 15Rs/month as here daily rental is 50p/day per number you add to special 5 list. So as its 1Re/day for some circles, it is unfortunate.

It is much better for Airtel & its customer if they slash their Local & STD tariffs in India….very minimum no.s of people use these international roaming…so it does not give much hyped among users..although It is a good step for Cricket lovers with Airtel connection..but I think only few no. of rich people are able to go for Champions Trophy In SA…so some rate cutting does not make a difference to them….So Airtel must have to do something new for its customer with locals & std tariffs….A milestone from the best operator of India is needed now….As a Airtel customer we deserve the best n/w & tariff…becuse Airtel get the no.1 position by their better n/w,good n/w penitration & good inovative offers & tariffs….

Ya, I know that but yet deal has not happened. What updated you have provided is day old & only about restructuring of deal. I am following it very closely. Latest update is deal may see rough patch due to SEBI’s new norms about GDR which will require open offer resulting into high costs for same deal. So just half an hour before, Bharti’s Sunil Mittal meet Indias’ PM to discuss over this issue & now company is seeking for exception from this new norm. Another big issue is dual listing of new company which our law doesn’t allow. So its premature now to comment on whether deal will happen or not. But till now there is no any partnership in between Bharti & MTN.

my friend is said that IT WILL BE not that IT HAS BEEN finalized i dont know abt GDR and all that but i got this info due to their share price fluctuation in BSE & NSE

There is no any partnership between Bharti Airtel & MTN Group till now. Deal talks are still going on & have seen major up downs today due to SEBI’ new norms & issues over dual listing.
One question- Why this site is not following this deal as from current situations, it is most likely to happen now & if then will create world’s third largest telecom company with customer base over 210 million!

i know that deal is not finalised but it will be …because last year after they failed to reach an agreement for partnership they renewed their talk for partnership this year and it is near final stage talks and it will be done due to this only they are providing the above benefit
