Airtel mobile subscribers in Mumbai and Maharashtra circles are facing a service outage (Call / SMS / Data) due to a technical glitch in operators Mumbai based central POP (point of presence) that cropped up today morning. Our sources confirms that a major fire in early hours at Airtel’s Malad (Mumbai) data centre / central POP (point of presence), which has impacted their GSM/Mobile network and Enterprise services like IPLC, Leased lines, MPLS and Internet services.
According to Airtel spokesperson “A technical outage has affected our network in the western region, resulting in disruption of some services. We are working toward rectifying the outage at the earliest. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers.”
Various TelecomTalk readers and followers on twitter also reported that Airtel network is down and Incoming / Outgoing call, SMS and Data services are not working in South Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, GhatKoper, Mulund and verious sub-urban areas of Mumbai since morning. The also affected adjoining areas, including Pune, Virar, Palghar, Dhanu Road in Maharashtra circle.
Update : AirTel has issued a official statement at 19:37 stating “There was a network outage in the Western region this morning as a result of a fire in our central POP (point of presence) location in Malad, Mumbai.
Our teams have been working since morning to normalise all affected services. Mobile voice, Blackberry and SMS services have largely been restored and are stabilizing. We are working towards restoring 2G & 3G data services later tonight. However, for the Enterprise services like IPLC, Leased lines, MPLS and Internet services, the restoration work is in progress and these services are likely to be restored in the next 24 hours. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers.”

Airtel network signals have largely been very week since the last few days (at least in CV Raman nagar area) and now the network is unavailable for now (since the last 4 hours)….
Anyone else having similar problem?

Hi Guys
Airtel had fire in malad at morning at 5 a.m both & the fiber optics cable were burnt in fire which handled their data services and the redundancy cable also caught fire
And as the call sms were down the reason was they had 2 shutdown all the nodes as fire brigade officials were trying 2 control the fire & to prevent further harm.So all nodes were shut
Meanwhile cable is being replaced and other measures also being incorporated so as to divert traffic through some other isp or telecom operator cable.

Yes you are right TRAI extended the limit to 200SMS/DAY but airtel giving only 100SMSes afterwards charging 10p/sms to other operators really nonsense Airtel is thinking that in India mobile subscribers are using only Airtel or force to use Airtel.

in single word idea is good in ROWB.. Cheap tariff plan, network coverage is ok.. But gprs speed is very bad.. It may vary area to area.. Try it in your area.. I used to get 1-5KB/S..
Airte is Good.
Vodafone is Better.
Idea is Ok.
Reliance is Thief.
Aircel is Worst.
Docomo is Mutamuti.
Uninor is Fatafati.

airtel has become totaly mad ,on RC 80 , AIRTEL IS GIVING A2A 100 SMS/DAY AND OTHER NETWORK AT 10P/SMS.
How much money does airtel want to give a2o 100 sms/day.?

They are concentrating more on business outside India. I mean Zain Telecom takeover in Africa, Warid in Bangladesh, got service license for 2G/3G in Sri Lanka and also operation in New Jersey and Seychelles, all this show tat they don’t see much opportunity in India now because of over-crowded market.
Agree with Sayan that Idea (or maybe Vodafone) will have more customers than Airtel in coming days.
