Airtel 3G Speed Test Results

Airtel 3G Speed Test ResultsIts now time for other operators to show their colors on 3G. In our previous post we had posted the speed test review of Tata Docomo 3G services, courtesy goes to one of our readers.

This time another reader of our named Mr. Vikram Nigam who hails from New Delhi has tested his Airtel 3G connection.

Let’s see what it has in store for us Mr. Nigam tested his connection in the evening by using his Huawei HSDPA 3G Data Card then he tried it out on his mobile handset Nokia N78.

Following are the observations

1. The Airtel 3G network is very weak as you will see in screenshot, speed is not is up to the mark.

2. Also the network drops more on mobile as compared to that of on HSPDA data card the transfer speed fluctuated many times.

3.Airtel 3G speed test was done using the apn airtelgprs.com ,using Rs 98 gprs plan which gives 2GB free data for 30 days.

4.While testing the constant speed received was on average about 600kbps, please be noted that the maximum speed was up to 1.17Mbps.

5. From 1st November onwards Mr Nigam was getting 3G network of Airtel 3G whenever manual network was searched. But he wasn’t able to get it locked.

6. On 8th November 2010 it was automatically locked at around 9 p.m. on Huawei data card.

Please note:-The test was performed using Airtel 3G test signal so speed might differ and fluctuation might be caused due to test signal, actual speed may vary.

Following are the enclosed images.

We would like to thank Vikram Nigam for taking out his valuable time and giving us the feedback and observations regarding Airtel 3G service.

He was unable to test any other services like Video Streaming, Gaming etc as he is not quite sure on how to access them.If anyone has more info on it please post a comment here.

    @Icycool,

The speed can’t be same everywhere. It even differs within same circle or state and at every cell site i.e tower to tower. Maybe you are getting that much speed in Patna but it doesn’t mean users across other circles can experience the same speed. Speed also decreases as the number of users grow. Maybe in Patna where you are using Airtel 3G, the network is not overloaded but it doesn’t mean users will get same speed in Delhi also.

I’m from Haryana and Airtel don’t have 3G license for our circle. They have tie-up with Idea to provide 3G to it’s customers here. What it means is any Airtel Haryana customers who wants to use 3G have to manually search network and select Idea 3G if available. I have used 3G on Airtel SIM in Haryana and got 850-900 KB/s on consistent basis. I got this speed not because of Airtel but because of Idea whose network Airtel is using. Airtel provides maximum speed of 7.2Mbps or 900KB/s in all their 3G plans.
You won’t beleive that on Idea SIM, we are getting around 12-15Mbps speed i.e 1.5MB/s to 1.87MB/s in our town in Haryana using 28Mbps modem Huawei K4505. If I move to a city, speed is 8-10Mbps. Idea hasn’t limited 3G speed to 7.2Mbps like Airtel in their plans. So if you have a good network coverage and condition, you can get that much speed on Idea. So speed differs everywhere. There, maybe, some circles where Idea 3G users might not be getting 200KB/s.

Airtel has their own 3G network in Himachal and we tested their speed using Himachal SIM. We tested on 3 different places and speed was 250-300KB/s at one place and 470-650KB/s at others. I hope this clear your doubt.

Don’t take this post seriously as the user might haven’t got speed in his area. I’ve seen may blog where users from Haryana using Idea 3G have said that they aren’t getting more than 3Mbps but this thing holds no truth in our town.

  • Icycool September 10, 2012 11:03 pm

This post is truly rubbish. I also use airtel 3G and I see that there is not a single operator whose speed can match Airtel 3G. On using airtel 3G I got a transfer rate of about 800 KBps (remember Kilo Bytes/sec not kilo bits/sec) via Airtel 3G data card. Guys can use airtel 3G, its speed is superb. In above article’s desktop image you can see that the user network is on roaming, so truly he can’t see its full speed.

  • SANJAY LAHA September 2, 2012 10:08 pm

I am highly satisfied with Airtel 3g speed. It has flexibility in plan change also. Only one or two days I get problem in connection in my area. But,still I am happy with the service and shall vote 95%.

  • AFZAL August 26, 2012 12:04 pm

I BOUGHT AIRTEL 3G DATA CARD AND IT GAVE ME 300-400KBPS INITIALLY,BUT AFTER 15-16 DAYS IT SHOWS ITS COLOUR AND NOW I’M GETTING 30-40KBPS SPEEED,I SPOKE WITH COSTUMER CARE AND THEY ARE JUST MOTHER FCUKER THEY DONT REPLY APROPRIATELY,THEY JUST SPEAK SHIT AND NO RESOLUTION,THEY INFORM ME THAT I HAVE NO BALANCE IN ON MY 3G SIM CARD AND THIS IS HAPPENING FOR NO BALANCE I INFORM THEM THAT I’M WORKING FOR BRITISH TELECOM ISP AND I KNOW HOW 3G WORKS BUT THEY WERE JUST SPEAKING THEIR SCRIPT….
GUYS PLEASE CHECK THE SPEED IN UR AREA FIRST AND THEN GO FOR AIRTEL 3G..ACCORDING TO ME ITS OK BUT COSTUMER SERVICE IS JUST SHIT THEY DONT KNOW WHAT IS THE MEANING OF 3G AND THEY ARE SITTING WITH AN SCRIPT TO START READING AS SOON AS THEY HEAR WORD 3G

  • MD IDRISH KHAN August 23, 2012 11:10 am

Really very horrible service by Airtel

  • MD IDRISH KHAN August 23, 2012 11:07 am

I have taken a new 3G SIM of airtel with a free 2GB data for Rs 200/- on 20 Aug 12, but till today ( 23 Aug 12) its not accessing any 3G data where as the bar in modem shows of 2 G. The customer service replied me as 3G is activated and there is strong 3G network coverage in my area, still I am hopeless now with airtel

  • raja sekhar July 12, 2012 10:52 pm

I am also a victim of airtel 3g service.
I was previously using BSNL broadband wired. I used to get 1 to 1.5 MBPS. BSNL is good till it works, but any problem you need to get behind them to fix it.
So I bought airtel 3g datacard a week back. It gives speed in kbps man….I dont know why the heck its named 3G….bullshit…
I raised a complaint with customer care on day one, till now they say please wait 24 hours, everyday i call. And they try to raise a new complaint every time.
Please dont buy before testing it in your area….ask the service guy to come to your home and test the speed. Buy then only…..

  • Khurshid Alam June 21, 2012 1:15 pm

Reliance 3g have very poor speed, many web site is not able to browse due to low speed.I already complained 2 times to customer care but they are not able to resolve, now i am going to purchase airtel 3g. Please suggest about airtel 3g for Delhi/NCR.
My reliance 3g number is: +918287701177

  • Brijesh Chorotia June 13, 2012 4:57 pm

It is unfortunate to see the comments on this subject. I too am a victim of the same and did not expect that it would be such a serious thing. I have complained Airtel customer care 4 times to no avail. Even last time the customer care executive got my complete IPhone reset to factory default settings which wiped pretty much everything out of my phone. Thanks to iCloud else I would have lost all my contacts and applications.

I am still suffering with the speeds of 200-400 kbps while I have paid 750 Rs for 3 mbps plus speed. It was excellent till 25-30 days back and now it sucks.

I am planning to move to bsnl soon and will tell all my friends that neither their customer care nor their network is trustworthy anymore as long as they want to use it for faster speeds internet on their smartphones and pdas.

As Airtel using Idea’s network here, speed is identical. 450-600kBps or 3.6-4.8Mbps using K4505 modem. On my N8- it gives around 350-400kBps with phone as modem again 500-600kBps. But it is Idea’s network. Haven’t tested on Airtel’s own network as for both Haryana and Punjab they don’t have 3G license. As Himachal is near my location, will test it on Airtel Himachal SIM some day.

  • Anand December 14, 2011 11:21 am

Reliance is a very intelligent network, every time when I start downloading the speed simply drops to ZERO and never comes back to normal, and I had to re-connect and start downloading again. Airtel 2G on phone is much better :D

  • Anand December 14, 2011 11:18 am

I use Reliance data card (Net connect Broad band plus) and it always has network coverage problem in my area, so planning to switch to Airtel 3G with my HTC sensation.

  • Mallik December 9, 2011 4:55 am

As we know that Airtel is the one of the top service provider. But as per my experience, it is the worst service provider.

I purchased Airtel data card (7.1MBPS) in July 2011. Its get activate within 24Hrs, but till now i haven’t got the speed at least 3MBPS. My plan is 675Rs(only 1.25 GB free usage), usage limit is 1200/-.

First two months i got bill as 1200/- After that i was getting 2000/- every month. I havent noticed that my limit is 1200/- and why the hell i’m getting 2000/- every months.
I’ve faced many problems with connectivity. Worst customer services, every time they use to kept me on hold for long time.
My advice to not to go for Airtel. Reliance is some how better.

  • sasikumar November 6, 2011 10:09 pm

i get 6 mbps DL and 2 mbps UL :D

  • Kushagra Mittal October 30, 2011 12:38 pm

Airtel 3g download speed is good, but I am getting very poor upload speed. My datacard (mmx310g)’s max. speed is 384 kbps but I am getting 120 kbps. Is there anyone getting higher speed on the same?

  • Ramesh October 28, 2011 7:50 pm

    Hi,

I am using Airtel 3G Datacard from April 2011.In the initial days I used to get Max speed of 1.17Mbps.But from past couple of months I am getting <50 kbps and the bill I am getting for the usage is as normal.

I called to customer care many times but there is no proper response, they itself telling that they are receiving low speed and they also complained some where…

Better think twice before taking Airtel 3G data card with Rs.2000.

    Thanks,
    Ramesh

I use airtel 3G on my HTC HD2 and i got a speed test of 5.9 Mbps on my phone. I have the image only for the speed test i took around an hour back and it shows 3.64 Mbps. Airtel always rocks. I dont know why you dont get these speeds.
I also use Relaiance net connect device which is pretty fast and it gives me speeds of upto 1.8 Mbps. But my Airtel is much faster.

    Hi,

I have purchased the airtel 3g data card believing it will be between 3.6 to 7.2 mbps but I never had the speed more than 1 mbps so far. I never had such lousy 3g service. Is there a way to improve the speed (or faster) of this substandard airtel 3g internet?

    Regards
    Dilip

  • Helper September 25, 2011 7:22 am

Dear ashwin first u must deactivate all gprs usage u must not have any usage of 2G internet bal.

Hello, one of the worst services are given by Airtel in 3g. I took initial data plan of 100Mb for INR 100. My handset is samsung wave II and is having 1ghtz processor. The speed is very slow and when I changed to 2g network and tried to browse internet it was bit fast when compared to the 3g services. can any one pls tell me what I am missing in 3g network. Is this is the problem of network or the browser I am using(uc browser).

    Hi all,

I am using nokia c6 phone.I have taken airtel 3g the performance is very very less.As the network fluctuation is more. The speed they advertise. So if anyone have any experience on the same let me know.

  • Gladson April 7, 2011 2:50 pm

    @akshay varshney

Its not Airtel’s fault that you are getting 16kB/s. Nokia N70 has only UMTS capability. Even if you have 3G plan enabled, the N70 will have a max speed of 384kb/s or 384/8 = 48kB/s.
Considering the network congestion and signal strength, 16kB/s is a good speed for the N70.
If you want higher speeds, suggest you move on to a new phone which supports HSDPA.

  • Manash Saikia April 5, 2011 7:32 pm

In 2.5G mean in Edge, My Airtel downloading speed reach upto 66kbps in midnight. So, 3G speed might be the best compairing to this one

    @vybhav

Hi Vybhav, I saw ur message and i wish to inform u that 1345kbps= 168KBPS. It is just 0.164MBPS.
kbps is kilo bits per second
KBPS is Kilo bytes per second.

    1345/ 8 = 168KBPS.
    Then 168/ 1024= 0.164MBPS

  • akshay varshney March 19, 2011 2:17 am

    Hi ,
I happened to get to airtel 3g network in hyderabad few days back.. i was able to connect to it .
Though the network bars showed nil strength .. in iphone 4 when i did the field test it showed -112 db which is as good as no network!! surprisingly i tried the speed test by cisco app.. i was surprised to see speeds of 1345kbps !! which would come around 1.2MBPS .. i did take the screenshots . now i am wondering if data speeds actually vary with signal strength ???
Obviously they do.. and if that is the case .. for sure airtel speeds will be the best in Hyderabad .. atleast touching 2.5Mbps…not bad i reckon!!

  • jeevan sarmah February 26, 2011 5:29 pm

  • hitesh January 30, 2011 2:55 pm

    @ramli7
dude bsnl has worse 3g connection in assam. it fail to provide good service . they are using utms network . if the user is more then 100 in one tower you can goood speed within 100 ms only and rest will get slow speed . forget 3.6Mbphs speed u will get below 250 Kbps speed … they are fooling people all i can say

  • Aveek November 17, 2010 5:32 pm

Hey Guys,do u have any update about vodafone 3G?

  • ramli7 November 13, 2010 11:26 pm

When combined with lowest tariff of BSNL ( 4200 for 6 months unlimited ) with excellent speed ( upto 3.5Mbps in 3.6Mbps enabled city )I believe we have to wait and see if any other service will match it.

Already Docomo cuts a sorry face in front of BSNL, with their tariff.

    CHANDAN :
hi guys, getting 3G signal on Airtel for the last 4-5 days. but signal is not consistent becasue of ots being the test signal.. I have noted few thing about the this:–
    1) signal is not consistent.. normaly it shows 3G without a single bar, but the moment you try to connect the web signal appears and net gets connected..
    2) I have not been able to make call when 3G signal is there, neither i have been able to use USSD like *123# , *123*10# etc.. when even i try to do so , instantly it shows no network despite 3G signal being there and net working fine.
    3) when i tried to call on any number, i couldnt and it responded with the message CONNECTION ERROR.
    4) can receive SMS but can not send one.
    5) speed varies with 400 kbps to 2.39 mbps. highest observed is 2.39 mbps( tested on speedtest.net and http://www.whatismyuip.com) . ignal is almost all part of delhi.( I have checked it on METRO DWARKA LINE.)I hvnt tried it on NCR i.e. Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida).
SO I CAN CONCLUDE THAT THIS IS A TEST SIGNAL9 OF COURSE) WITHOUT ANY INTEGRATION WITH VOICE SIGNAL AND BILLING PROESS, SINCE DATA WORKING FINE ON IT AND NOT THE OTHER VOICE RELATED FEATURE. AND AIRTEL TARTS FULL SERVICE BY DECEMBER. BUT I DOUBT IT WILL BE AFFORDABLE SEEING THE DOCOMO PRICING STRAYEGY. I FEEL BSNL, MTNL WILL ALWAYS BE CHEAPER.

Ya thats right Tata has set a benchmark and all other will follow the same. That is the reason Tata launched 1st. Lets see whT fusture has stored for us with this all 3G hype. You said it right that BSNL AND MTNL Will be the only operator with low and justified teriff but their service is all horrible I can’t say about MTNL as I have not used it.

Well said. I think Telecomtalk.info is being funded by DOCOMO.
What is the purpose of sharing incomplete test results that too when 3G has not been launched by Airtel yet. I think we must wait as Airtel would surely bring about better pricing & connectivity.

I think the charges of Airtel 3G will be less than DOCOMO as Airtel enjoys more customer base & if the users are high the product would come cheap.

Suggest telecomtalk.info to publish test results once all operators launches their 3G. This topic is useless as of now & s just to create TRP of telecomtalk.info website.

Dude Airtel 3G test results are shared by users like you who are awake late night just to get the glimpse of Airtel 3G test signal and check the speed etc we are just a platform and we have just shared the same, in the article we have clearly quoted that “its a test signal”

Stop the blame game ” what if i say that you work for Airtel and Airtel has paid you to make a comment like this even your comment sounds like you work for airtel “?

For sure we will come up with our own version of the review when the commercial version of Airtel 3G is live .

hi guys, getting 3G signal on Airtel for the last 4-5 days. but signal is not consistent becasue of ots being the test signal..

    I think u dont know much about 2G,2.75G,3G & 3.5G
    for data service
    2G provides gprs
    2.75G provides EDGE
    3G provides HSPA/HSDPA
    3.5G provides HSPA+/HSDPA+
    This is the correct information…

Well I can say the same about you. Better start reading my friend:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access

    Quote from wikipedia:
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is an enhanced 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, also dubbed 3.5G, 3G+ or turbo 3G….

    Current HSDPA deployments support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.0 Mbit/s.

Means, upto 14Mbps it IS CALLED HSDPA or 3.5G.

Further speed increases are available with HSPA+, which provides speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s downlink and 84 Mbit/s with Release 9 of the 3GPP standards.

Means HSPA+ is only for networks having speed greater than 14MBPS. Please don’t provide wrong info…..

Abhi testing bhi nahin huaa hai, signal bhi kahin kahin mil raha hai, aise mein ghatiya service kah dena sahi nahin hai. Aur haan, ye 2G plan ko hin 3G me bhi chaloo rakhein ye to ho hin nahin sakta hai.

IS 3G AVAILABLE ON CDMA CONNECTION?

  • Ganesh November 9, 2010 12:55 pm

    @sri
Hello sri! 3G refers to 3G data, which is slightly faster than EDGE. If you see only 3G, speeds won’t be too fast. 3.5G is HSDPA which is VERY fast….

I think and hope airtel will get bet by BSNL :P

    @epynic
3G is the is for voice, standby and video calls too. But if HSPA is available, then 3.5 will be used and hence 3.5G. Compare this 2G.
    2G standby – 3G standby.
    2G GPRS – 3G Data
    2G EGPRS/EDGE – 3G HSPA (here HSDPA).
In 2G when u connect to GRPS, it shows G (in 3G it will show 3G data lines). When you have EDGE network, you can see E (in 3G you can see H or 3.5G).

  • madhu prasad November 9, 2010 12:39 pm

    Only one word–PATHETIC

  • madhu prasad November 9, 2010 12:35 pm

very bad speed from AIRTEL. It hasn’t been launch which means totally free 3G network yet their speed hardly touch 1 mbps. They are promising around 21 mbps in their website. We know that 21 mbps is impossible as its the ideal speed in labs only that the technology can support. Even if we get 1/4th of the speed that would be great, but seeing the result I dont see their speed going above 512 kbps. Forget live TV and all. Also the tariff are going to be high as thei CEO already said that the services wont be cheap.

Hello In Bangalore Aircel’s 3G Signal is Very Good Where as AirTel 3G Signal is very Weak

  • sri November 9, 2010 8:13 am

It is too early to talk about Airtel 3G, They have not yet launched the trial period too. I think it is not good idea discuss and compare the Airtel 3G with any one else. The time will come and we will analyse them in deep. Till then just dont go and test with each and every 3g signal.

3G refers to the down speed of upto 7.2Mbps and 3.5G is upto 21.6 Mbps
All thermostatically, practically only patents and god knows
