End of Era: Aircel Withdraws Unlimited GPRS Packs

Aircel Withdraws Unlimited GPRS PacksCountry’s leading GSM operator Aircel who is pioneer in bringing damn-cheap & most affordable GPRS Special Tariff Vouchers i.e. Pocket Internet Packs, has withdrawn the unlimited packs from selected circles.

Aircel revised their whole portfolio of pocket internet packs with limited usage.Interestingly these changes were not still updated in Aircel’s website, even not informed properly to the retailers.

The phrase they are used to say, ‘unlimited browsing and xMB download’.A visit to Aircel Store shares the detail info regarding the new pocket internet packs, you can able to use Aircel GPRS on any device upto a certain limit, then GPRS can be accessed at 10p/10kB (= Rs 10/MB) but WAP based interent access from mobile and Aircel Live will be free.

But if you can get a paper recharge coupon of PI you can enjoy unlimited download as it was before. E-recharge of the pocket internet packs will give you limited GPRS usage.

Though Aircel’s official webpage is showing data cap for pocket internet plans for Haryana circle yet all the PI plans(14/29/98/251) are offering unlimited data usage. So don’t worry. But Rs.5 dialy pack has a capping of 50MB.

Update:- Now PI packs can also be activated by dialing *122#. To check data usage of Rs.5 plan, dial *126*6# or *126*9#

its good that aircel has withdrawn unlimited gprs which was clogging the network resulting in bad gprs experience for all users.

hope at least now aircel starts providing 200-250 kbps speed like others… docomo, rcom, uninor, vodafone.

airtel inspite of giving just 2GB provides the worst gprs speed/experience to its customers! f@#% airtel.

Read more at “The Times of India”

IT has positive as well as negative impacts ! Positive (for BSNL)- Can offset the expected loss of about Rs 6000 crores in the current fiscal. Negative (for the subscribers)- Has to face consolidated and concerted onslaughts on their service front by private players in BSNL’s own circles ! Many subscribers have more than 1,2,3… SIMs, compelled to acquire for obvious reasons (no connectivity, beneficial tariff packages depending utility etc. etc.) that are very much aired by manu of our TT bloggers ! Anyway an interesting observation !

  • Puspita Chowdhury January 10, 2011 2:37 pm

@Manoj Abhigyan @Amit.G so does that mean if i go with postpaid i will get better speed than normal prepaid users ? and limited number of call drops etc ?

  • grunthos January 10, 2011 2:24 pm

Actually Airtel is still supplying its initial GPRS customers with unlimited 2G for 199/- Provided ofcourse, if you had the foresight to take that plan then :D Me and my wife are both beneficiaries of that scheme – we both took Airtel postpaid back in 2006 :)

Speeds are spotty though – certain locations you can cross 100 kbps, and some others you will struggle to even get 40 kbps. But that is understandable in a mindbogglingly crowded city like Mumbai.

SPEED ((BY CHANGING THE NETWORK MODE TO HSPA/UMTS ONLY IN MICROMAX MMX350G DATA CARD OR IN MOBILE)) AND THEN ENJOYING UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD AND SURFING…..
AIRCEL , RELIANCE ALL KNEW THAT DATS Y THEY CHANGED THEIR 2G GPRS PLANS AND MADE THEM COSTLY WHERE THEY GOT 3G LICENSE….

BSNL ROCKS……. BSNL JUST ROCKS FOR ME AS on BSNL 2G SIM 26 EASY RECHARGE GIVES 1GB FOR 7 DAYS.
DAT MEANS SAY FOR A MONTHLY USAGE OF 4GB YOU NEED TO PAY 104 RS for 30 days …with GETTING 3G LIKE SPEED WITH HSPA NETWORK OF BSNL JUST BY CHANGING NTWRK MODE ON MICROMAX MMX350G DATA CARD…..

  • Amit.G January 10, 2011 1:35 pm

    @Puspita Chowdhury
Ya offcourse they can control. usually postpaid users who are high earning customers are given good speed than prepaid. Not even gprs. if the network traffic is high then postpaid ppl are given first priority for making calls than prepaid. i myself have experienced with Airtel.

  • GAURAV JHA January 10, 2011 1:11 pm

aircel is a complete crap operator.
even in the trai quality of service benchmarks which is been published every month aircel gets the poorest ratings

one thing i must say is that if you want speed, then switch to bsnl or airtel.
I am using airtel 98 gprs pack with cap of 2 gb. And its more than enough if you are surfing wid opera, bolt, or uc web

  • Raghu January 10, 2011 12:51 pm

Aircel please first improve the network and then withdraw offers . otherwise the offers and then withdrawing are just waste.

  • Keshav Jha January 10, 2011 12:46 pm

New plans look like limited plans but practically they are unlimited plans. Infact these plans are not bad but speed should be good. Without speed every plan is bad.
Now for 2G internet people will move towards Uninor, Videocon, BSNL etc.

Yeah, Uninor and Aircel are better in coverage in UP East.

  • SOURAV CHATTEJEE January 10, 2011 12:33 pm

BAD FOR KOLKATA CUSTOMERS AS AIRCEL HAS GOT 3G LICENSE IN KOLKATA AND ONCE AIRCEL 3G WOULD HAVE GOT LAUNCHED HERE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE USING 2G SIM WITH 98 UNLIMITED RECHARGE AND GETTING 3G LIKE APPROX. SPEED ((BY CHANGING THE NETWORK MODE TO HSPA/UMTS ONLY IN MICROMAX MMX350G DATA CARD OR IN MOBILE)) AND THEN ENJOYING UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD AND SURFING…..

    @ARJUN
So technically speaking the speed can be controlled by a telecom operator ?

Oh so finally Aircel came to know that with its existing 2G speed it would be better to say 3GB instead of unlimited. It doesn’t matter whether they keep 3GB or unlimited bcoz nobody can cross 1GB with Aircel GPRS (60kbps/7KB/S)

Yeah, nobody can cross 1GB with Aircel GPRS.

  • Saurabh January 10, 2011 12:14 pm

It was done 30-45 days back in some circles and now others are being added. But at the speed they provide, it’s not possible to even use 500MB. We are getting signals from Docomo network n speed is same doesn’t matter you use Tata or Aircel. They haven’t install their infrastructure yet in our area.

  • jack January 10, 2011 12:08 pm

Docomo is providing good service for gprs in my city…i had used aircel and there speed is very slow…

  • rohan January 10, 2011 12:05 pm

    SOURAV :
I AM FACING PROBLEM OF CONNECTION TIME OUT SINCE LAST 10 DAYS WITH DOCOMO GPRS….IS ANY SOLUTION?

Is ur bal less than 1 Rs ? It happens when u hav low bal or netwk pblm.

  • rohan January 10, 2011 12:02 pm

Every operator is withdrawing it’s GPRS PACK and giving poor speed so that customers move to 3G netwk. Now Only BSNL has unlimited pack on 2G and 3G. In the near future 2G GPRS pack would be competitive by those operators which has not got 3G license on attract cust. Like Uninor, Videocon…etc.

No solution. Just shift to airtel, vodafone, bsnl or uninor.

  • Santu Sovan Mandal January 10, 2011 11:56 am

    Uninor is here very good.

  • PD January 10, 2011 11:56 am

Quite understandable ! Ultimately how can they pay to Dhoni and his lot for tempting you ? Also they have to pay penalty, accrue money to meet the 2G Ghotala adjudication etc. etc.! However, there is a ray of hope, especially for the new comers (of Raja fame)in the filed – Sibal Saab is only counting the loss of past regime and don’t want to take call of PAC !

  • Santu Sovan Mandal January 10, 2011 11:55 am

It doesn’t matter to kolkatans. Because here aircel gives ******* slow speed. People here can’t use even 1 GB a month.

  • Manoj Abhigyan January 10, 2011 11:54 am

Now a days, Uninor is better for GPRS in U.P.East. Their speed is very good. They should reconsider about their default plan. Its very costly. But their GPRS packs are good.

so that is it for aircel from my side……
Now it will be bye bye aircel and hello BSNL

Was impressed with the Aircel service though but dont see any need to continue with Aircel now…..

  • DUANE January 10, 2011 11:34 am

    @santosh
@ SANTOSH … why do you keep on advertising your mobile number … yesterday in the AIRCEL ANNOUNCES 3G / BWA article… and today in the UNLIMITED GPRS PACK WITHDRAWAL… any reason ??

  • santosh January 10, 2011 11:29 am

Aircel should inform this changes to it’s subscriber otherwise it will make a bad impression in the customer’s mind..
