Aircel Selects ZTE for deployment of its 4G LTE Network in India

aircel 4G chennaiZTE India today has entered into an agreement with Aircel, to deploy its 4G LTE network in India.  In the first stage, the LTE deployment will be initiated in Chennai, Rest of Tamil Nadu (RoTN) and few other business critical circles.

This announcement comes at a time when ZTE completes the migration of Aircel’s data services to ZTE’s 4G LTE evolved packet core for Chennai and RoTN circles. ZTE has enjoyed a long term relationship with Aircel since 2008 supporting their 2G-3G rollout in three circles of the north zone and is also the key Vendor for Aircel in Next Generation Networks (NGN) for Pan India.

The fulfillment of the evolved packet core deployment in the south zones further cements the long term partnership between the two companies. ZTE has enabled Aircel with high capacity and capability solutions with access agnostic functions for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE services.

ZTE till date has applied for 381 essential patents for LTE standards, which account for approximately seven percent of the total number of EP applications globally. The organization offers a full range of LTE base stations, including widely distributed macro stations. It has won 60 contracts for LTE commercial application and has deployed test networks in cooperation with more than 140 operators across the globe.

    There is no proper reason why aircel licence is not cancelled inspite of failure in meeting network rollout obligation
    Govt should immediately cancelled licence of aircel in circles where they stopped service suddenly and without informing customers.
    It is very painful to see operators like MTS and TELENOR suffering due to licence cancellation and idiot aircel is unaffected from these cancellation since they purchase those prior to 2008
    GOVT should take tough action against aircel

    @Kingston
    Come down from the glamour and glitz of the metro areas in chennai to the sub urban areas,towns and villages of tamil nadu and you would know how worse aircels 3G coverage is at these areas.I for example live at M.K.B Nagar(an area near perambur)and i have to go to the terrace to get one bar of 3G signal from aircel whereas airtel and vodafone provide full 3G signal at the same place.If they are not able to handle 2100mhz properly in entire tamil nadu;i dont expect them to do wonders on the 2300mhz band,given that its the same vendor who had taken up aircels 3G contract and is now going to deploy 4G.

    They are just talking non sense and they do not know what they are saying. They have already stopped 2g services in many circles and not yet launched 3g services in 90% places of up east. Why trai is sleeping? Their license must be cancelled.

    After 3 years Aircel is still on drawing board picking network gear supplier. So it will take another 2-3 years for them to launch the service in Chennai.

    No one waste spectrum in India like Aircel. Already wasted 2G and 3G spectrum in many circle by shutdown. Now going to waste 4G spectrum. Why roll out obligations not applicable for Aircel?

      Even if they roll out 4G services after 3 years coverage wont be proper.Even in tamil nadu where aircel has maximum subscribers;proper 3G coverage is still missing in most villages and sub urban areas whereas airtel is providing the best 3G coverage in tn.In my area(M.K.B Nagar)for example airtel and vodafone provide full 3G coverage whereas even in order to get a one bar 3G signal from aircel in my area in need to go to the terrace.

    If zte is taking up the contract i dont expect any kind of proper coverage;i have seen how horrible aircels 3G coverage becomes in suburban areas and villages of tamil nadu its only in metro areas like anna nagar,nungambakkam,kilpauk etc where there coverage is good for 3G

        they are no longer the cheapest in tamil nadu recently they have hiked call rates to approx 1.6p/sec similar to that of airtel and infact idea and docomo are turning out to be cheaper than aircel for voice.Over here in tn both airtel and vodafone have been providing 1GB 3G @ 126 per month and idea has been giving 2GB 2G @ 98 per month both these offers are cheaper than what aircel has to provide.
