4G in India: Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio To Share Infrastructure created by both parties

airtel 4GBharti Airtel Limited and Reliance Jio will share infrastructure created by both parties. This will include optic fibre network – inter and intra city, submarine cable networks, towers and internet broadband services and other such opportunities identified in the future.

Reliance-jio-logoThe cooperation is aimed at avoiding duplication of infrastructure, wherever possible, and to preserve capital and the environment. This will also provide redundancy in order to ensure seamless services to customers of the respective parties.

The arrangement could, in future, be extended to Roaming on 2G, 3G and 4G, and any other mutually benefiting areas relating to telecommunication, including but not limited to jointly laying optic fibre or other forms of infrastructure services. The pricing would be at ‘arm’s length’, based on the prevailing market rates.

As part of this arrangement, Bharti and Reliance Jio have already announced an agreement under which Bharti has provided capacity on its i2i submarine cable to Reliance Jio.

Does this means even the much hyped Reliance Jio 4G pricing will be same as what airtel is offering ? Do let us know via comments.

Airtel will not provide 3G/2G Data below Rs.100/GB (30days) because if they reduce 2G/3G data price it should affect their profit and average revenue per User.

So they should fix 4G price above Rs.150/GB and if they share their network with Reliance Jio, definitely they give pressure to Reliance Jio for high tariff(above Rs.150/GB).

With this Tie-Up we can not expect cheap tariff from Reliance Jio but we can expect Unified 2G/3G/4G data plan at Rs.150/GB

I think both of them reduce tariff to overcome 3g&2g domination.
Expect a cheaper tariff than 3g.
I heard jio launch 4g all over india in mar 2014.
I am from kerala and airtel too lauch 4g by june 2014 and jio on march.

Bsnl (government sector) is not ready to face fair competition with (airtel, vodafone, idea) private sectors. So this leads to unhealthy(huge tariff) for the Indian people telecom usage.

Now competition will be killed and 4G will remain as now Airtel 4G is performing. 1GB for Rs.250.00 will be no better than pathetic 3G services. 3G being offered on 2100 MHz doesn’t penetrate windows to reach efficiently inside house. 4G being offered on 2300 MHz is still more difficult to reach inner places of flats/buildings. For signals if one has to sit in terrace then no use of high speed 4G services. Moreove Voice over 4G (VoiLTE) will be of no use. In U.S. and Europe, 4G services are being offered on 700 MHz waves which travel more efficiently (almost 2x efficeint coverage) and customers experience full signals even inside lift/escalators. Moreover, in India, no phone or tablets with 4G frequencies of 2300 MHz being sold. Recently launched Nexus 7 tablets have 4G LTE for 700 MHz and 2600 MHz because these two frequencies are being used widely all over the world for 4G services. Whats the use of 4G to use only through USB Modem?????

There goes cheap or affordable broadband internet for india in water. Reliance jio will join the a-vo-id cartel to jointly loot the people of India. Everyone’s the same… Whether politicians or businessmen… They all want to loot and fill their pockets because they are powerful.

I will call this the wisest deal of 2013 made by two wise people as this will help both the companies to cut cost on infrastructure resulting in cheaper data offerings to the end customers. Customers should welcome such moves instead of criticizing it as it will help them also. Telecom as a whole need enormous amount to be invested and if every company will invest on its own, they will get nothing out of it and customers will also get nothing due to high cost of end product. So sharing infra is always a good move in telecom. I hope more and more companies will join hands in future to bring telecom out of this messy situation.

From a consumer perspective 2008-2011 can be called Golden period due to cut-throat competition but from telecom sector’s point of view it was the biggest nightmare or toughest time. I hope sector will stablize soon.. :)

Then why did supreme court fined operators and banned 3g network sharing if operators are willing to share their network each other?

Why 2g operators are not sharing their network in non coverage areas?
By network sharing, operators can reduce operating costs and thus result in lower tariffs.and it will be good for environment too.

@Muhawid, Read the news first. They are not going to share spectrum or Airtel will not provide services on Pan-India basis using RIL spectrum. The deal is for sharing infrastructure only. Supreme Court order was to stop non spectrum holders in an area to provide a service. If two holds license then they can share infrastructure and network also. For e.g- In Haryana, BSNL, Tata Docomo, Idea and Vodafone holds 3G license and if they want to they can share spectrum also. In 2G operators are already doing it but they both holds license and spectrum for that area. Videocon is using Tata Spectrum in Haryana for 2G. Similarly Reliance and Aircel has deal for it in different states. :)

We already have avoid in the 2G space and now i think we will have air(ai-airtel,r-reliance jio) in the 4G space.Still its just an assumption who knows maybe the sharing arrangement may actually be beneficial to the common man but still bharti may have its rates high and because of the sharing arrangement even RJIL will have the same prices most probably.
